Re: Canaries
Not a fish restaurant per se but Land of Freedom at the top of the main street in Corralejo is a fantastic place with a varied menu and lovely owners.
Re: Canaries
If you are on facebook I’d recommend joining a group called Corralejo we love you. Do a search on there or ask for recommendations. Generally it is a good community and negative nobs aren’t tolerated. There are 2 squares in the old part of the town that have plenty of fish restaurants , La Playita used to be a favourite that can be found by town beach. For traditional tapas Gildas is a must, book the night before.levraiclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 3:03 pmThanks NL I have booked for Coralejofor next month. Re: Canaries
We are in RIU Paraiso in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote. A well run hotel with good facilities. All inclusive deal so decent food and drink without extra costs means a good holiday for us. Generally over 40’s at this time of the year and although entertainment etc is provided it doesn’t extend to rowdiness. Our main observation is the number of people with a smile on their face which is a good sign. We’ve done 1 week visits for my birthday for last two years but next year plan to do two weeks as we’ve enjoyed it so much.

Also in Puerto Del Carmen until Sunday, staying at Ocean Lanzamar Apartments on the edge of the old town. Having plenty of beers and eating too much. We are off on an all day tour to Fuerteventura today.

Also stayed in PDC , Lanzarote a few times, American Indian Cafe, Tavern on the Beach and
Ruta 66 (fabulous sound system) are my usual haunts.
Stayed at the Aqua Suites and Bitacora Club up the hills.
Great place for dining and boozing.
Beach not bad either.

Re: Canaries
Coming home tomorrow from a very sunny week in maspolamos in Gran Canaria.
I thought the weather might be poor leaving the airport in Las Palmas full of dark cloud and bits of rain.

Re: Canaries
Canaries update, staying in a decent residential area of Costa del Silencio. So far has ticked all our boxes.
Quiet, pretty flat and plenty of bars / restaurants close by. Very good value for money, a lot cheaper than Correlajo to eat out.
Wandered down to Las Galletas on Sunday afternoon, didn’t get far as the heavens opened however we were well looked after in a little Italian bar and ended in a session with locals from Venezuela, Cuba, Italy and Yorkshire. Got the bus to Los Abrigos today, had tapas by the marina, perfect.
Plan to get an AI pass in Golf del Sur on Saturday before heading home.
Looking around the other Canaries we have dodged the rain apart from Sunday.
Thanks to those who gave us some tips on this part of Tenerife.

All inclusive pass, I hear they are quite popular these days. I doubt we have anywhere to leave our luggage (we are in a private let) from 10am and we fly at 8pm. We were going to do it in Correlajo in a Barecelo, for $60 pp you get a wristband for 8 hours. Buffet, sun lounger drinks etc. we didn’t bother in the end as the Geordie in the villa next door let us leave our luggage on his patio and left his gate open while he went to watch the football, safe as hoooses he said, it was, he was an ex para and wasn’t wrong!!Stonehouse wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 5:43 pmStopped on San Blas for 3 weeks up to 25 Feb ,never saw a drop of rain, what’s an AI pass?

Re: Canaries
I was in Golf Del Sur for half term, came through your place and Las Galletas on the bus to meet friends in Cristianos - looked like there was enough going on.
People we spoke to said it had rained once since Jan! Been unlucky for friends out there this weekend.
Really enjoyed El Medano for a day out once again. Nice beach, lots of bars/restaurants with surfer character and 100's of wind surfers/kite surfers and people foiling to watch from the beach. Would recommend if in the area.

I’m on FB groups for Correlajo and PDC and seen on the news that Gran Canaria was had significant rain over there. In Las Galletas the locals said it has rained 3 times this year and they were in need of it. Silencio has enough about it, different areas of bars / restaurants and caters for the retired market which doesn’t bother us. One thing we have noticed is that it is difficult to spend your $s here!! Got a taxi back from Los Abrigos and the driver was made up with the tip we gave him, he deserved as he got the music on and avoided the heavy traffic near China Town in between the resorts.Loyalclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 6:14 pmI was in Golf Del Sur for half term, came through your place and Las Galletas on the bus to meet friends in Cristianos - looked like there was enough going on.

If your over there again there’s a place called Las Tejitas which is about half way between Los Abrigos and El Medano and on the beach is The Pirate Bar with nice Tapas and cheap as chips vino ,and away from the beach is a small shopping centre that as an amazing Itilian Restaurant with fantastic food also a cracking Asian Restaurant (Chinese ) which food is also very good.Loyalclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 7:55 pmEnjoyed Tapas Pata De Oro too

Is there an Indian as well in that centre, or am I thinking of somewhere else. We tried the lamb, pork and steak in the Alecrim restaurant - all were very good. Proper home cooked-style food.

Re: Canaries
That's the one
We have a friend who lives on the island who we see 3 or 4 times a year, and some days he takes us out in the car visiting various places, where either I never knew the name, or have forgotten it, but I now remember the few hours spent at the pirate bar followed by a curry. We've been meaning to go back, but never have. Perhaps in a few weeks.

Re: Canaries
We just go out for 3 weeks around feb ,our friends have a house in Las Tejitas ,driving from Los Abrigos when you get to the little roundabout at the shopping centre then turn right and turn right again as if going to the Pirate Bar their house is the first on the right behind the gated door ,their daughter also lives out there but in Vale de Lorenzo high up towards Teide and her husband has La Pappilon restaurant up Teide and does the Teide by night tours so when we’re out we have around 7 or 8 eating places we go to but quite a few are Canarien restaurants that the average tourists never go to .nighty wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 5:02 amstonehouse .....do you go there a lot , you seem quite knowledgable on the area , we spend half our year at la tajita now we dont need to work , our holiday house has been there for 21 years .....its a great relaxed place to be once your used to the wind , probably the sunniest on the island .I came back thursday to take in the 3 matches , preston was a write off , cardiff great result , roll on saturday then back over to tenerife till warm weather hits uk

Is the craft ale place still in the (newish) centro commercial at La Tejita that is close to the Chiringuito Pirata that Stonehouse mentions? Off the cuff bus trip to Los Cristianos earlier, packed bus and the driver had to get off the front and back on in the middle of the bus to shout at the younger passengers to move down the aisle. Not been to Cristianos since Steve Cotterill was at the helm , 2004. The place looked to have developed a lot since then. Previous time I was in Los Cristianos was 1988 when there was next to nothing there. We had a pint and considered getting a taxi back to Silencio. Decided to get a curry and then a taxi back. There’s probably more chance of Cotterill coming back to Burnley than us going back to Cristianos.

Residents have free travel on buses since covid. We still use them but it's certainly a challenge to find a seat on one nowadays

Now now, this is not your usual thread where a certain player is unfairly singled out and a row breaks out.
1) the bus journey was bearable and I did point out to Mrs NL that it was mentioned on here about the buses being very popular. It was €1.5 to get there, we probably travelled at the wrong time of day.
2) Cristianos looked to developed a lot over the last 20 years, a lot of accommodation crammed in. Very busy and noisy. A lot of noise coming from one bar, bingo was on. We could have explored more, gone down to the harbour but it would have meant walking back uphill, that said we got a taxi back. It wasn't for us.

I think you'd have had a better experience had you walked down to the prom, especially if you'd done it via the old bit. The area around the bus station isn't the best, but there are some nice local cafes/bars away from the bingo.
Re: Canaries
I used to head up to the Apolo centre after I finished my shift at Mary Rogans occasionally, for a few beers and an arepa or two at one of the grill restaurants that opened until the early hours. Halcyon days indeed.Row x wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 9:44 amI don't see an argument, just a discussion

Re: Canaries
Agree Row X, we were a bit taken aback and I couldn’t get my bearings at all. We were probably going to get the bus back and if we had thought on taxi from the front would have been better. I recall on last visit eating in old town, anyway on to last full day, a walk down to Las Galletas and hopefully we make it to the promenade this time. Day pass booked for a hotel in Golf del Sur tomorrow.
One thing we have noticed is that planes take off in different directions which we believe is dependent on which way the wind is blowing.

Very rare that planes come in other than over los crist, but the weather's weird so the wind could be blowing from a different direction than normal
Re: Canaries
No, not been to the tea rooms, only visit to Las Galletas we went to an Italian bar for a swift one on Sunday and left the same bar 4 hours later!
Most of the week the planes have been landing over Silencio however this morning they are taking off. You notice the difference without looking, much noisier taking off.

Re: Canaries
Not sure if I should have been but I was surprised how badly the buses in Golf Del Sur stuck to the timetable.
Waited 50 minutes for a bus that didnt arrive to Cristianos at 5pm, granted traffic was terrible in Las Chafiras and Costa Del Silencio so probaboy held the circular up.
Waited for a bus to El Medano that didnt come for 30minutes, so got a taxi.
When heading to Playa Pinta via Cristianos, the bus was only 5minutes late... result!
Can't argue with the price though.

Re: Canaries
Yesterday 3 buses wouldn’t let us on as I think the drivers were telling us it was turning round or at the end of the line. Whilst waiting we were talking to a resident (moved from Belgium ) and she works in Los Cristianos and the previous evening had waited 90 minutes for a bus back to Silencio. She said it was unusual. The traffic in Las Chafiras is bad, think they are doing something to the motorway. Certainly no complaints with the price!!Loyalclaret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 10:43 amNot sure if I should have been but I was surprised how badly the buses in Golf Del Sur stuck to the timetable.

We could have explored more, gone down to the harbour but it would have meant walking back uphill, that said we got a taxi back. It wasn't for us.

It's called a discussion, I know you don't like it if someone disagrees with you, but that's lifeStonehouse wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 12:20 pmSounds a bit like Blackpool to mebut Nori likes a good arguement. :

Re: Canaries
All along the walkway next to the beach, and round by the ferry terminal ,and I’ve no problem you not liking where we stay as half the restaurants in San Blas I wouldn’t be seen dead in we much prefer where we used to stay where Costa Adeje meets La Caletta but where we are now is much nearer for our friends to ferry us about ,but I’ll give you one think we like about Los Christanos is Restaurante Overseas, which is probably the best Asian Restaurant in the South.
