Their Captain had eyebrows thicker than his hair, you don't see that anymore!
I believe we dominated that game for long periods

Yeah, wasted opportunities!
Charlton celebrated their goal like they had won the cup final, pathetic!

The turf moor pitch looked like Deepdale
Re: Harry Enfield Fans -1947 FA Cup Final
Who would win if todays elite were transported back in time and had to play on 1947 ploughed muddy Turf Moor with a soggy leather lacey?

A team of 11 modern day keepers would run rings around any pre-second world war team regardless of heavy balls and muddy pitches

Give over, there would be two players needing treatment for foot injuries just from the kick off.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 11:01 pmA team of 11 modern day keepers would run rings around any pre-second world war team regardless of heavy balls and muddy pitches

I can't recommend this video enough, footage of the pitches wow.
Is it just me, but i love these old clips and always think about my grandad who would have been on those games. My mum has a picture of him on the back of a coal flatback lorry with others setting off for the game.

Beautiful film Mike, hats off to you.
Some things to note from that season. The Clarets played a fixture on Christmas Day at home to Forest and then the return the day after at Nottingham. Two days later they played Coventry away and won three nil with a Morris hat trick. Same job at Easter, two home games on Good Friday and Saturday then a trip to Southampton on Easter Monday.
The game before the Cup Final they played Bradford Park Avenue, and lost! Happen their minds were elsewhere. Following the Cup Final they still had seven fixtures to play in May and the last one in June. Six of them were away which included three trips to London and one to Newport.
We owe a lot to that Alan Brown team whose hard work laid the foundations for future success starting with a First Division third place finish ( on goal average behind United) in 1948.

Fantastic watch that. We absolutely battered Charlton by the looks of it also. What a shame.

Re: Harry Enfield Fans -1947 FA Cup Final
I was seven at the time and had just started to go to Turf Moor, I listened to the radio commentary on the BBC Light Programme with Raymond Glendenning who appeared to me to be anti Burnley and Allan Clarke who was more neutral.
This excellent film brought back some memories of not only the heavy pitches that matches were played but the heavy snow of that winter.
In my estimation Alan Brown who was captain of that team and later Manager was the catalyst for the success the club had in the following fifteen to twenty years.

Re: Harry Enfield Fans -1947 FA Cup Final
Great footage within a really well put together film. Thank you for sharing.
In November 2024 I emailed the club as I was frustrated that the achievements of the 1946-47 Burnley team were not recognised either in the Club History section within the match day programme, nor via the pre-match screening of the notable events and achievements of the club. Pleasingly, both these club histories now proudly include the 1946-47 Burnley team. As Mike’s film clearly highlights, it was a special season for Burnley Football Club and it warrants recognition.
