It benefited us but he was rrrrrubbish.

First time I've ever thought that a ref was a Burnley fan.

Re: Referee
What decisions did he get wrong ? They could have had a pen for the challenge by Sarmiento but other than that what were his glaring errors ? I know we go loads of decisions but that's because Luton kept fouling

Re: Referee
I think virtually all decisiions were correct.
Perhaps Sarmiento got away with one for the penalty but everything else seemed right.

The Sarmiento kick to the face was one of the most blatant penalties I've seen all season. Genuinely dreadful decision.
Also thought the ball had gone out for the 2nd goal but was pretty tight

One of their players elbowed Benson in the face in front of the linesman.
Nothing given. Benson was furious.

Re: Referee
2nd goal is on the linesman.
Yeah probably got the Sarmiento one wrong but I was over 100 yards away so he had a better view than I did.
Red was definitely a 2nd yellow so right call.
Think he got most of the smaller stuff right which is all you can ask for really.

Did Edwards take the ball over the line before we scored the 3rd?

Re: Referee
Would have to watch the Sarmiento challenge back. Didn’t look like he made contact live, but if he did it could be a wrong decision. Else thought he got everything spot on.

Re: Referee
I was fairly close to the Sarmiento alleged kick to the face and I’m fairly confident that there was little or no contact with the Luton player, and I didn’t even think it was his face either. Luton chap took an age to go down and remember to hold his face.
Happy to be proven wrong though if I see it again on TV

Re: Referee
Generally our referees have just become such a succession of absolute jokers that it might soon make sense to just pick someone out of the crowd at ten to three.
Re: Referee
I'm not sure he was a "homer" as such, I just think Luton came to rough us up and the officials weren't going to allow them. The lad who got sent off let his team mates down massively. His first yellow was a blatant one, and the second was completely brain dead. Why jump into a tackle like that when you're on a yellow card? He didn't give the referee any other option. They could argue that Edwards carried the ball out of play, or that they should have had a penalty, but they were persistent in their fouling all afternoon so its not a surprise that the officials were giving us more than them!

Re: Referee
Red card = Thought it was the right decision. Even if Naismith gets a feint touch on the ball in the first tackle, you can’t challenge at thigh height meeting someone head-on and not expect a card. Second challenge was bonkers in the context of already being on a yellow. Brownhill is going back towards our goal and Naismith just lunges in.
Brownhill goal = Absolutely impossible to know from the replays I’ve seen. I always have in my mind now the Japan vs Spain World Cup goal with these ones. Without an overhead shot of the ball, we’ll never know.
Foster goal = Probably gets ruled out by VAR as it clearly hits Anthony’s arm in the immediate lead up to the goal. We got lucky with it.
Sarmiento tackle = Haven’t seen a replay, so no idea if there was contact, but my first thought in the ground was that it could be and I was cursing Sarmiento for making a high challenge like that in the box.
Generally thought the ref was quite generous towards us, although a few of the bookings we got were a little soft.

I thought that they'd changed the car rules around hand ball, doesn't it have to hit the player who scores?agreenwood wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 8:00 amRed card = Thought it was the right decision. Actually morninbob, you might be right.
Re: Referee
I was left wondering why there was only 3 minutes added on time. In the 2nd half there were 8 substitutions, 3 bookings, play stopped for player injury treatment and 1 goal in normal time. My own prediction before the board went up, was for a minimum 5 mins.

Re: Referee
Brownhill goal - there's a perfect side on camera view on the extended highlights and it's very close, but certainly isn't 100% over the lineagreenwood wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 8:00 amBrownhill goal = Absolutely impossible to know from the replays I’ve seen. Foster goal - correct decision. It touches Anthony's arm. But it's not deliberate and its a natural position. As he wasn't the scorer, it isn't automatically ruled out
Sarmiento tackle - I thought pen at first but haven't seen it back and can't see any replays anywhere (Help)
Overall I thought the ref got lots wrong and favoured us
But there can be no complaints about the red card. The first yellow was an orange. The second yellow was downright thick
Re: Referee
Can see why Luton were miffed, but ultimately the correct decision was given.

It looked like the ball came off Anthony's hand before our 2nd goal.
No VAR to ruin it though

Re: Referee
It bounced off the defender and hit Anthony's elbow.
His arm was by his side in a 'natural' position so not hand ball.
Probably.

Re: Referee
There was literally no contact. Not 1 single Luton player appealed. FFS.
Re: Referee
In the lead up to our second, a Luton player tries to break out with the ball and the ref is directly in his path.
I would concur that most of the big decisions were correctly called, but we got lots of very soft free kicks that on another day we probably wouldn’t get.

I'd have to see again but on the replays I saw it looked absolutely nailed on. You can't have your foot that high.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 7:16 pmThere was literally no contact. Not 1 single Luton player appealed. FFS.
Nani got sent off for less than that once against Real.Madrid

Re: Referee
I was in the CFS with a good view though he was a good 10 inch off his head.
Ref immediately said no, and not 1 single Luton player appealed. It was an opportunist fall, rightly ruled against.
