Proper performance
I bet I wasn't the only one that thought when they went down to ten we might have it all on to break them down but we played really well, lots of off the ball work to create space and the work rate was superb. Really good stuff today. First home win against Luton for 30 years apparently

Let's not sugar coat it, they are absolutely dreadful, but we played them off the park. They could have easily been a national league team.

The last 5 goals we’ve scored have all been in the 6 yds box,the other from Brownhill at Cardiff was from about 10 yds .are we doing something different ?

Re: Proper performance
We did what we needed to do very well but lets not pretend that a home match against relegation fodder who played most of the game with 10 men wasn't about as easy as it gets in this division.
Re: Proper performance
It's amazing that we seem to keep playing the worst team in the league every weekend.

In our last 7 league games we've played 6 of the bottom 9 teams so its fair to say we've had a run of easier games. In contrast 6 of the next 8 is against top half of the table clubs so this what will really make or break our season.
I think we've looked good against the better sides so see no reason why the current run of great form doesn't continue

Re: Proper performance
Any wins a good win and we won well today. Historic records and so called bogey teams mean nothing and my only point was that in this division it wont get much easier than today. You've still got to turn up and convert and we did that comfortably so everyone should be happyVegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 5:37 pmNot beaten them at home for 30 years, proper bogey side for us at the Turf. How many times have we struggled against crap teams with 10 men though? it’s always easier to defend than attack.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 5:27 pmWe did what we needed to do very well but lets not pretend that a home match against relegation fodder who played most of the game with 10 men wasn't about as easy as it gets in this division.

Luton were dreadful there is no doubt about it but that’s not our problem.
We were the better team before the red and dominated after.

Luton not great. But it was a good day at the office for us. We did our thing very well. And another clean sheet.

We played perfectly well against a raggedly poor 10man Luton . Hard to grade players in a game like this ,but the job we needed ,ie must win and move on . We just can’t afford any slip ups .

Bit of karma after last season's farcical refereeing at the end of the match.

That's the spirit. Win 4 nil with a lot of positives about the performance, but there is always an opportunity to fire a dig in there somewhere

Re: Proper performance
I think the main difference is we are just seeing our better players recieve the ball higher up the pitch in more space.
Plus we have also increased our quality in the final third.
Edwards made a few sloppy passes but he makes up for it with that real extra quality in the final third.

Well not exactly a cliche, DA,
It's generally seen as difficult in a game where the scores are level or the team who lose a man are winning because the team with ten shut down their attacking intent, so becoming harder to break down.
Obvious, is it not?

Re: Proper performance
My little slant on today I always say Refs should be stronger in the early part of games with challenges worthy of a booking instead of a talking to it sets a president although in the Lutons player today it didn't and he got what he deserved.Lets not forget Cullen got an early booking as well.We again created enough chances to score far more goals and missed at least three where it looked easier to score. From where I was sat the ball was certainly in play for the third goal. And finally I've had a couple of beers which I don't normally so in the nicest possible term DA your a knob

Re: Proper performance
Having a referee that wouldn't stand for their physical/dirty approach helped enormously. They came up here to bully us and nick one off a set piece. All in all a very good performance. I disagree with some of the above. Luton are still quick and accurate with their passing in the main. Outstanding performances from us but particularly Edwards, Cullen, CJ, Lyle, Pires and Roberts. Clever cameo pieces from Sarmiento and Redmond also who showed some vision. Hannibal, Browny and Edwards rested for Tuesday as well. A good day!

Burnley played against 10 men vs Sunderland away and Rovers at home, how did those games go?

You're seriously comparing Sunderland losing a player with 5 mins to go with Luton losing a player on 19 mins?ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 9:25 pm.

There was actually a study carried bu someone at Nottingham University in 2015 to test the theory that its harder to play against 10 men. The study looked at 1520 Premier League matches between 2009 and 2013 and unsurprisingly it found that it wasn't actually harder to play against 10 men.

It proves very little in terms of individual matches though.

Not sure what's remotely controversial about anything I've said on this thread. I've said we've played well, won comfortably and put Luton to bed but Im not getting overexcited to the point of thinking beating 23rd in the league at home with them reduced to 10 men within the first 20 mins as anything special.
