Despite improvements made to the security arrangements over the years including the checking of bags by Stewards etc we can still see areas that may require attention.

The above image is taken within a matter of yards upon entering the ground. It seems to be a storage area.

There appears to be a plastic bucket filled with sharp metal objects, some foam backed asbestos panels, discarded trawler fishing nets, a crap bedside cabinet and electrical equipment previously owned by the nuclear processing industry.

The security of the area is made with 2 yards of plastic chain link rope (available from most Garden Centres & DIY outlets).

What I found strange yesterday was the sheer amount of fans that got up and left in the 86th minute when the ball went out. I know people drift out towards the end for their own reasons, and it’s up to them of course as they’re free to come and go as they please, but I’ve never seen so many people leave at the same time so early when we’re winning a game. I know we were sitting back and seeing the game out but the weather was nice, so not the recent sideways rain into the stands.

The strange thing yesterday was that all our four goals were scored from four yards out and we only had three shots on target during the whole game.

This isn't meant to offend anyone but the first photo just reminded me of something i'd noticed a few times recently. I'd be interested to see if the age democratic of our fans at home games is any different to other clubs.

I noticed the last few times I've been on in the Longside upper that there seems to be a lot of over 50s there these days. I just wonder if that's one of the big reasons for the deterioration in atmosphere. There definitely used to be a seemingly younger crowd in there, but as people age they don't want to suddenly move seats. I'm sure I read something similar about it happening in the Kop at Anfield as well.

The younger element prefer to stand up and, therefore, congregate in the CFS where the tickets are relatively cheap.

I have parents who are pensioners and have been loyal supporters for the last 7 decades. Both have seats at the front of the JHU on the half way line next to an exit. I think that their season tickets are around £250. Same in the Bob Lord.

If younger fans are unable to purchase a season ticket then the cost of a single match ticket is out of range.

It’s more to do with all seater stadia, and fan loyalty. The Longside is coming up to 30 years old. The fans in the upper middle sections will have chosen their seats back in 1996 when they were probably late 20’s to Mid 30’s years old. These fans are now 50 & 60+. That’s the way all seaters work, they’ve no need to move anymore. Back in the standing days. The centre of the Longside where the teenagers, 20 year old singers/chanters stood was basically the only section that created noise. Not the whole ground like today’s fans seem to demand. Back then, when fans got older, they moved sideways towards the Bee Hole, and a new generation of younger fans moved into the middle bit. Then when they got older, they’d move to the Bob Lord or Cricketfield. It was a natural regeneration. Now, fans stay exactly where they are, but the singing and chanting is now not for them. The exact problem with all seaters. I’m sure when the club designated the Jimmy Mac “The Family Stsnd” it didn’t expect supporters who where 30 years old with there 8,9,10 year old children would still be in the same seats had as 60 year olds with their 30, 40 year old children. Leaving no room for new child supporters or even grand kids.
For in every stadium, it’s the all change to all seater that’s killed the atmosphere.

My son works away some weekends and wanted to purchase tickets for him and my 5 year old Grandson for the home game v Sheffield Wednesday the other Friday night.

The cheapest available seats were in the JM lower at £53 for both of them. He rang the club at lunchtime and asked if he could come down straight away and collect the tickets. He asked if he could pay in cash and they said that no cash payments are taken.

He then rang me to ask if all my Grandkids could come round to watch the match on the telly along with his mate and son whilst I was on the game. Which they did.

Not exactly encouraging for our future supporters as our elderly clientele turn their toes up.

Very well summed up and clearly not just a Burnley issue. There's not really a way to fix it, you can't just move fans due to age clearly. I suppose it's strange in a sense that the prime viewing seats were the singing section, not sure that's usually the case at most clubs and has probably exacerbated the problem.

It would probably work better if the Longside was the family stand at this point and the Jimmy Mac Lower was made standing, the view there is crap anyway so encouraging noisy fans in there would probably be a good idea and would help spread the noise around the ground having noisy sections on both ends.

I would say apart from me, the Bob Lord age has gone down from when I first time I went in there, Pipe smokers etc

It could just be a matter of perception. I know a good few patrons who I would class as the younger supporters. They are about the same age as me, between 50 and 70.

It's a very valid point re the demographic of the fans on the Turf. Under 22 prices are great, over 65 prices (me) likewise, but for people sandwiched in the middle it's extremely expensive. Both my sons had season tickets for many years and we went together. Now they are both in that middle ground where it's full price for a season ticket and they can't guarantee they'd make every game either because they've got families and other commitments. Both actually bought tickets and came on on Saturday, but obviously we couldn't sit together and it cost them £41 each which despite enjoying the result is still pretty steep.

We live in a deprived town which has incredible support for its home team.

But £41 for a ticket is taking the p*ss.

It's ok for me as I have a season ticket which works out about £20 a game. I'm fortunate as I live in the town and can attend virtually every home fixture.

For others, it is a different kettle of fish.

Expanding the ground, introducing safe standing, would not result in less expensive single game tickets.

That really alarms me, seeing that. Have you contacted the club to make the powers that be aware of this? This isn't acceptable.

It could just be a matter of perception. I know a good few patrons who I would class as the younger supporters. They are about the same age as me, between 50 and 70.

I am a young 66 in the Bob Lord, I do sing some of the songs but have to admit that its not the same as an away game where all stand and sing through most of the game.
But I do enjoy my football and have since I was a 6 yr old and have been in every stand at some point.
with regard to ticket prices, I think its a fact of life things get more and more expensive, I did speak to a bloke who this year his ticket has dropped from £500 to £265 ,his son who sits with him has to pay £500 , so he gives his son £10 per month towards helping him pay so they can sit together. I realise not all people can do that but its may be a thought.

I've got to admit, I've got in to the habit of this, there was no reason for me to leave early other than to get to the bar before the queues.

Pi$$ poor to be fair, I just hate having to queue to leave the ground at fulltime, takes about 15 minutes to get out

What I find strange is how, whenever anyone on here makes a perfectly reasonable observation involving fans leaving early, there is always some Mr Angry who pops up saying exactly this.
Of course people are free to leave whenever they want but it just IS a bit weird , especially when a game is in the balance (obviously it wasn’t on Saturday but we still got Barnes’ goal which, like Benson’s in the previous home game, was a brilliant moment). Given the price of a ticket nowadays you haven’t half downgraded your experience by leaving early.
Sits back and waits to be lambasted by the “you have no idea why people might need to leave early” brigade.

What I find strange is people not reading the whole comment or understanding that the person they’re quoting is always defensive of people doing what they like ( they pay for their tickets and can come and go as they please), and stating that in the post, but jizzing their pants at an opportunity to have a go at a general observation.

I wasn’t having a go, I just noticed it due to the sheer amount of people leaving, which was unusual. Usually people trickle out prior to injury time.
