Man Utd new 100k stadium

Post by ClaretsPadiham » Tue Mar 11, 2025 10:05 am

Confirmed.

Can’t see the FA being happy about a ground that’s bigger and better than Wembley.

Just look what you can afford after you cut back on staff meals.

Mr Pace, take note :D

Ratcliffe said if he hadn't made the costs and staff cuts, they would have "run out of money by Christmas."

Now they have to find £2 billion.
Easy..... :P

Because it’s part of a bigger regeneration project, are utd going to get it on the cheap? (Comparatively). I suspect they may do.

I suppose if you have a club run by clowns, your stadium should look like a circus…

Anyone who's seen numerous 'artist's impressions' of a new Turf will know that quickly mocking up an AI image of a new stadium is the easy bit. Funny they release this two days after a big protest about the ownership.

Look at this shiny new thing guys and pipe down.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks the umbrella design looks dreadful. It'd look lovely in the Saudi sunshine come the 2034 World Cup, but I'm not too sure how it'll look in the Manchester rain!!

Also, the plans seem to show that they'll take possession of a huge amount of land directly behind OT (including Manchester International Freight Terminal, container storage facilities, and warehousing). That deal hasn't been done yet, and shifting that amount of freight infrastructure out of Trafford Park will take some doing!

Pie in the sky at the minute.

They haven't got any funding as yet, they are doing this to pressure the government.

Cant they just get the Taxpayer to pay for it , then rent it at a nominal rent, like West Ham ?

You would have to ask the more 'clued up on finance' posters on here, but I think they have to be a bit more truthful with where the money will come from being a PLC.

I can see this heading into the same controversial bracket as West Ham's new stadium somewhere along the line. It'll "benefit the wider community", so public money gets sucked in. Like em or loathe them, at least Everton have paid for it themselves (I think?) and almost wrecked the club doing it.

Its the architect Forster & Partners speaking over the video, so they have a big player on board. No doubt they could sell out every week.

Good idea to have covered areas when it rains a lot, and you have tourists wanting to visit (and spend money).

It will be interesting to see how funding works beyond the stadium - they can finance £2b easy I imagine, but I know Arsenal had to pay for upgrades to the tube stations when they built the Emirates, would be off if Manchester council/ gov funded similar improvements.

Much of the land around OT is low value usage, so might need some compulsory purchase orders and gentrifies the area.

Watched Jim Radcliffe being interviewed by Gary Neville this morning who said they could afford the Stadium but they would be looking for the Government to support the surrounding infrastructure.

Looking at the video and the commentary, it seems they want to get away from a 'sea of cars' parked around the stadium which will be interesting seen as its currently a pain in the arse to get away from after a game on public transport, without the added 20k an increase in capacity will bring.

This will definitely happen.

There’s been a task force led by Lord Coe and Andy Burnham for 12 months or so, Lord Foster is the designer and Rachel Reeves has recently backed it as one of her top 3 infrastructure projects the government are supporting. And Jim Ratcliffe is backing United now - Ineos are delivering £4bn of infrastructure projects themselves so this is the type of stuff he does and money he’s used to.

The land is all owned by United or a shipping container company who are agreeing to move out and relocating to St Helens or somewhere. Think the government component is then reusing/routing the rail line that services that site to accommodate a new train station or trams. Or something like that. Plus then wider generation of the area.

I hate United. Really frustrating they’re basically a lower half premier league team and they get that while we can’t even rebuild the CFS or Bob Lord :(

Did notice that. They need a few multi storeys on the outskirts on the main roads to replace the multiple surface car parks and I couldn’t see any.

The Government support is to make the rail line that serves the container yard a new passenger train station. Or tram station, I’m not sure.

"It will also include three masts that will make the new stadium visible from 40km away."

What do you reckon, given the regular low cloud and drizzle that engulfs Manchester, the actual distance you'd be able to see those masts from?

Noticed a nodding Lord Seb Coe next to Sir Jim Ratcliffe so suspect there will be some lobbying within the corridors of power.

Maybe wrestle football, boxing and the Olympics back from the middle east down the line.

Liverpool went decades without winning a league title, yet they are still a big club.

Regardless of form Man U. will still have a bigger fan base than any other club.

The current rail terminal is operated by Freightliner, the plan is for that facility to be moved to the Newton-le-Willows area, there are several container services per day from Felixstowe and Southampton, the government assistance will no doubt be fast tracking planning applications for this to occur as well as the provision of new metrolink passenger facilities around glory hunting central.

This really does starkly illustrate the gulf between the haves and have nots. When you think that many league and non league clubs are struggling to survive, admittedly some through their own incompetence, and yet here you have the richest club in the world asking for a government leg up when we’re struggling to fund our armed forces adequately in a dangerous world.
Yes there is the re generation question but it all sits very uneasily with me.

Yes, agree. Still frustrating that they can be quite so unsuccessful (by their own standards) for approaching two decades and get a brand new £2bn stadium while we have stands that are 60 years old. We’re not alone in that respect, of course, but underlines the huge gulf against the really top teams and the rest.

Anyway, I hope it ends up looking like a huge circus tent with a huge condom stretched over it

from what i understand from reading different things , Man u will pay for the stadium but the rest of the area will be developed with public money

as for parking, a lot park at the trafford centre and get the tram so i guess that will be upgraded, i normally park at media city and walk across to the stadium whenever we play there but i can see some more multi storeys being build probably south and west of the stadium and maybe the trunk roads being improved, dont rule out a park and ride with a dedicated bus lane from around the trafford centre / M60 junction areas into the new stadium on match days and probably for commuters as well

Apparently £1 billion in the red, sacking hundreds of staff and Ratcliffe complaining that the players are not worth the salaries and the club could go into loss at the end of the year . Now they announced a £2 billion 'proposal'. It is clear with the comments along the lines of '...in will benefit the area/North', that they expect the tax payer to fund this and we probably will. Remember at the end of the day this is just another football club albeit supported by some of the most arrogant, self entitled, obnoxious fans that are only rioting because the other club in town has been winning everything.

If the North deserves its own stadium then lets have it built for the benefit of all clubs and all sports, and not just the glory boys. .

Pretty much impossible to draw a translucent canopy and not make it look crap. It's a smart idea, an area for thousands and thousands of people to congregate protected from the rain before a game. Kerching.

They're one of the biggest clubs in the world. They don't deserve it but they should be able to offer better than they currently do. Fallen massively behind other clubs progression off the pitch.
