Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
From TV
Trafford 6 - not much to do but some loose passing. No chance on FK
Roberts 6 - quiet
CJ 7 - some great runs forward and solid. Will miss him for the next 3
Esteve 7 - solid as always
Pires 6 - improving but needs to learn how to take a throw and needs to try and get it forward faster
Cullen 8 - controlled midfield
Brownhill 7 - was everywhere but definitely faded when Laurent came on
Hannibal 6 - quiet in second half but some good stuff in first
Edwards 6 - great end to first half but their LB did a great job of keeping him quiet for the rest of the game. Should have had a few more fouls in his favour too
Anthony 7 - really threatening all game. Hitting form at the right time for us
Fleming 7 - definitely improved from recent performances. Some good hold up play
Subs:
Laurent 5 - struggled to get going and couldn’t seem to find a man
Foster 5 - obviously got injured but wasn’t really involved
A disappointing evening but trying to see as point gained rather than dropped. If Anthony’s shot that hits the bar goes in I think we go on to win comfortably. Special word to the ref who genuinely seemed to be making it up as he went along. The CJER red I can kind of understand but for the life of me can’t see what Parker could possibly have done to warrant it.

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
Trafford- 6. Couldn’t do much for the goal. Far too nonchalant at times.
Pires- 8. Could and should’ve had an assist or two, if the forwards weren’t constantly 2/3 yards off the pace. *MOTM.
Esteve- 8. Composed.
CJ- 5. Idiotic red card. Could cost us.
Roberts- 6. Steady enough. Loves to buy a free kick instead of just challenging for a duel and winning the ball.
Cullen- 8. Great as always. What we do without him.
Brownhill- 6. Sloppy at times.
Hannibal- 6. Takes too many touches. Lacked his driving runs.
Anthony- 8. Looked a threat.
Edwards- 6. No end product tonight.
Flemming- 6. A few crosses tonight he could and should’ve been getting on the end of, or at least being in the box and not 2/3 yards off the pace.
Foster- 6. Hopefully his injury won’t keep him out. Needed his pace tonight to stretch the WBA defence.
Laurent- 5. Lacks the technical ability for a team that wants to keep the ball.

Not sure subs were on long enough.
Struggled with their press and shape. 2nd half was really poor. Too slow with the ball which never gave Edwards a chance to get 1-on-1.

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
Trafford 6 - hairy at times and brought back memories of the Premier League, no saves I can recall
Roberts 6 - in his shell (by instruction) a little more which shackles Edwards but did OK
Egan Riley 5 - a few mistakes early on, some poor passes, and his trip / kick at the end after the final whistle had gone was criminal
Esteve 6 - decent but not outstanding, they caused some problems
Pires 9 - his best display for Burnley, a couple of crosses that could have won the game and great defending
Cullen 7 - some great breaking up play
Brownhill 8 - excellent energy and a little constrained by his tactical instructions
Hannibal 6 - never really got into a position to influence the game
Anthony 7 - little room but a few good moves and a great shot off the bar
Edwards 7 - tightly marked, took some risks, not sure how long that will be allowed under this manager, and was a nearly man tonight
Flemming 4 - poor and off the pace apart from his good instincts for the leveller. Not his position but he does grab the odd goal in it.
Foster 6 - puts himself about which is a good start in my book
Laurent 6 - allowed Brownhill to get forward which is where he needs to be
Barnes 7 - made a difference and almost got us a penalty (which wasn’t, but was close)
A frustration tonight, another game where I sold my tickets due to a busy day working and not needing 4 hours driving. A shame we feel like this instead of being desperate to attend which I have done for 35 years.
We did OK, but I sensed again Parker settled for a point, which naffs me off. He may be right, but, by God, it is predictable and thus not entertaining. Will he go for it against Sheffield if needed? Well, it would be anti-instinct if he does. Which makes me fear failure.
The obvious attacking change was Benson, a sure sign Parker was careful not to lose the game. Has Sarmiento played on the right all season? Softly, softly, catchee monkey. That is Scott. Hell, he even got sent off saying something calmly. That’s what he is.
I like him. Would be great for a chat in the pub. But he isn’t one to go for the jugular when it is exposed. I say again, as I have for months, he has set this one up, either promotion and hero worship, or the sack. There is no in between.

Really poor start with some sloppy play but then gifted an equaliser and were on top. Second half we looked utterly devoid of ideas going forward against a solid opposition.

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
Brownhills rating varying from a 5 to an 8 ,can’t knock is goal scoring but it’s another big game where he’s been anonymous.

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
A big missed opportunity but we weren't good enough om the night.
Trafford - 6 - relatively quiet but didn't always get the balance between confidence and recklessness correct in his distribution.
Roberts - 7 - defended solidly and was one of our more composed players going forwards.
Pires- 7 - some good, some less good.
Egan Riley - 5 - a bit scrappy in normal play but OK, but let's everyone down with a damaging moment of stupidity after the final whistle
Esteve - 8 - outstanding, particularly after taking a heavy blow.
Cullen - 6 - lacked support in the centre at times but got dragged into a less composed performance than usual.
Brownhill- 7 - the pick of the midfield but in trying to do everything, at times he didn't do enough to support Cullen.
Hannibal- 5 - the weak link tonight. West Brom stopped him exploiting the left channel. Without that he didn't always seem to known what his role was and too often he wasn't a factor in the midfield battle.
Edwards - 5 - not a feature on the game and not unlike st Cardiff last week he seemed to struggle with the physicality of a close marker.
Anthony - 7 - some nice touches without being a consistent threat.
Flemming- 7 - in the right place for the goal but didn't do enough to disrupt a makeshift West Brom defence.
Foster - 6 - not on very long and hopefully the injury isn't serious.
Laurent - 7 - added energy and made the midfield look more coherent. It was a surprise he didn't arrive earlier.
Others subs - not on long enough and it was really surprising that Benson wasn't amongst them given his record of breaking open tight games.
West Brom are a decent side and have a good record so perhaps this will end up looking a decent point on a night we weren't at our best - but the frustrations shown at the end reflect that this was a missed opportunity against a patched up, understrength West Brom side.
The team selection wasn't a surprise and the logic of rotating a couple made sense, but we missed Laurent in particular and we also missed the threat of some pace in behind to really stretch West Brom's high line - the only player who really tried in the first 65 minutes was Brownhill, and he was supposed to be playing alongside Cullen so when he went, Cullen was overwhelmed. As the game went on you wanted us to really set a challenge to West Brom's makeshift back line - but not for the first time our substitutions were a bit samey, and a bit late to make a difference.
Ultimately the biggest difference between this side and the one two seasons ago is that that side won games like this. It had the confidence and bravery to commit to winning them. We were certainly trying, we lacked conviction, didnt ever quite go for the juglar, and we didn't set enough of a challenge to West Brom late on.

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
SP got it wrong from the start. There was no need to change anything from the weekend. However, we take the positives and move on. We didn't lose ground on Sheff U and our unbeaten run is intact. WBA were very good and made it very difficult for us, so credit where it's due, they deserved their point. From my seat the only ones above average were Pires, Esteve, Cullen, and Anthony. Nobody else had an impact on the game at all. When Callum Styles empties his pockets tonight he'll find Marcus Edwards in there, he was the best player on the pitch. Styles and Diakite were both superb IMO.

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
Trafford 7 - impressed with one of his passes out to the right hand flank in the second half when pressed, done at pace.
Roberts 7
CJ 5 - minus 2 for daft red
Esteve 8
Pires 8* - thought he had his best game for us and was really good tonight.
Cullen 6
Brownhill 6 - better when playing further forward as we all know.
Hannibal 5
Edwards 6
Anthony 7
Flemming 7 - plus 1 for goal
Foster 6
Laurent 7
Think Parker wanted Hannibal and Flemming in because this season we've tended to be a bit flat every third game, so I understand wanting fresh legs... for me though I think that our best lineup fit for selection is the one that started against Luton in the previous match.
Lots of football yet to play. UTC!

Egan Riley 7 - Based on the game, not the afters!
Esteve 7
Pires 7
Brownhill 6
Cullen 7
Edwards 5 - Ignored for a lot of the game and not overly good with the ball tonight
Hannibal 5 - Ran a lot, fell over a lot
Anthony 8* The only real threat we have who is on form
Flemming 7 His goal was a real poacher job. He won a lot of the ball but unable to do much with it.
Subs
Foster should have gone off straight away
Laurent has started to look cumbersome and his passing was awry
Barnes would be better getting 20 mins
West Brom are a decent side and were as good in every position

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
Trafford 6 (Nothing to do saves wise, but poor distribution which I will accept was frequently down to West Brom's well drilled press)
Roberts 6
CJER 7 (-1 for stupidly getting sent off and possibly missing 3 games and costing us promotion!)
Esteve 8
Pires 7
Cullen 8
Brownhill 5
Hannibal 6
Anthony 7 (If only he could cross a ball like Humphreys!)
Edwards 6 (I can't decide whether he had an off night or West Brom had him bottled up or indeed we didn't pass at the right times, but disappointing from our new talisman)
Flemming 4 (and that's +1 for the goal!)
Koleosho 6
Laurent 5
Sarmiento 5
Foster N/A
West Brom had done their homework. Plus they're are fit, well drilled, well organised and astutely managed, but we've aspirations to be promoted in the top 2 so we HAVE to be better than that and find ways to beat them! Apart from a 20 minute spell after the equaliser when we really clicked, we never really looked like breaking through and I felt it ended up being another glaring example of why we'll finish third. We're very good, but not quite good enough for the top two. Every time we've had the opportunity to go top we've failed to take it. In the end a point coupled with Bristol scoring late at Sheffield would have been great news, but CJER being sent off sadly means it really wasn't a good night for us!

JT - 6 did okay but some poor passing tonight (although going long isn't easy when you have no one looking to receive the ball)
Robert - 7
CJ - 5 Red card is incredibly stupid, why give such a poor ref the chance.
Esteve - 8 solid as they come
Pires - 7 did well
Edwards - 6 too quiet
Hannibal - 6 pressed okay but needs to do more
Brownhill - 6 quiet
Cullen - 8 overrun without him
Anthony - 8 linked up well with Pires and was a threat
Flemming - 7 plus one for the goal, but not much else to say
Foster - 4 just when you think he is going to hit some decent form....

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
You don’t change a winning team and you certainly don’t change a team that won 4 nil at a canter in the previous game. Brownhill has 12 goals from midfield this season yet we push him further back to get a less effective player into the team.
We did play pretty well for significant periods tonight and were probably a shade the better side on the whole but never quite made our pressure tell when it needed to.
Trafford 6 some really good balls and some that were far too risky
Roberts 7 standard
Egan-Riley 6 will be surprised if his red card is overturned and the 3 game ban is likely to be costly
Esteve 9 even when seemingly knocked out he’s straight back on to intercept twice within seconds. Nice nutmeg.
Pires 8 probably his best game for us
Cullen 8 metronome
Brownhill 7 restricted
Hannibal 5 if you’re bringing him in for Laurent, play him where Laurent played
Edwards 6 a few flashes of brilliance, the ball over the top to Anthony in particular, but largely marked much better by Styles in the second half.
Anthony 8 really good tonight, very unlucky with his curler against the bar
Flemming 6 poacher’s goal and held the ball up fairly well but he doesn’t have the pace Foster does and he doesn’t really drag defenders around the pitch
Foster 6 looked like he took a knee to the hip, did alright up to then
Laurent 6 pushed us forward down the right. Should have started for his physical presence in the middle.
A decent game against a side who at least came and had a go. They’re decent for this level and will take points off more of the better sides. Does feel a missed opportunity though.

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
Trafford - 6. Slack passing at times which put us under unnecessary pressure
Roberts- 6
Egan Riley- 6. Silly red card but Ward missed the barge on him
Esteve- 7. Stood up to their attempted GBH well when Ward missed it
Pires - 8. Best game for us
Cullen 8. Really good as usual
Brownhill- 5. For the love of God. He is not good enough to play in the double pivot. Went missing for large parts as expected against a side in the top 6
Hannibal- 5. Not great
Anthony- 7. Had their full back on toast in the first half and then we didn’t bother attacking down that side after that
Edwards- 6. Quiet but some moments of quality
Flemming- 5. Struggled tonight
Foster - 5. Looked lively and certainly looked to get us playing forwards.
Laurent- 6. Didn’t get hold of the ball much
Koleosho- 6
Sarmiento- 6
Barnes. NA
No need to change the side tonight

Trafford 6- nowt to do other than watch the goal go in
Roberts 6- offered nothing defended well
Cj - 6 (-1 for the thing at the end that may cost us the promotion with a 3 game ban)
Steve -7 kept us in it defensively yet awful long balls tonight
Pires -5 actually decent in retention of the ball but why oh why does he keep stopping the ball with his studs and coming back inside (also I counted 3 foul throws, not good enough at this level)
Cullen -7* we’d be fooked without him
Josh -5- very poor tonight didn’t effect t the game at all
Hannibal -7 why why why take him off ?? Again . Bizarre
Edwards 5- poor when marked tight, offered very little
Anthony - 7. Tried so hard without any real help or movement infront of him
Flemming 5- plus one for the goal. Offered next to nothing
Subs - foster 5. Didn’t fancy it
Laurent -3 woeful and I mean woeful when he came on
Sarmiento - 5 no time to effect the game
Roberts 6- offered nothing defended well

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
I'd guess that 8 of the best 11 players tonight were in claret. At least...
I'm glad that many enjoyed the game but it left me running out of patience with Parkerball. Over-elaborate as soon as we're in striking range, and seemingly at times wanting to walk the ball into the net.
Trafford...6 Another bit of fannying that nearly cost us.
Roberts..6 Id love to see him snap into a few tackles..too often his backing off his allowing them to stroll unchallenged into our defensive third.
CJ..5..A bit of knobbery that may cost us dear.
Est..7
Pires..6 Had a stormer by many accounts...I simply didnt see it myself.
Cull...8. As youd expect.
Brownhill..8
Edwards..6
Anthony..8
Hannibal 6..offered nothing in that position.
Flemm..5..As any type of line-leader he's simply dreadful.wins jack sh1t in the air .and couldnt hold up a sunday school picnic...If that's what you want then Barnes, in all honesty, is twice the player.
Foster. 5 Ideal if youre happy to spend your evening watching this lump rolling round on the floor after every challenge.
Sarmiento..5.Why?? What's he for?...has Parker actually bothered to look at some games from 22/3 to see what Benson can do?
Koleo..7... Did little other than stand in half an acre of space whilst we continually funnelled the ball into a crowded right wing to play pinball with it.

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
Looked very leggy last night and they looked remarkably sharp. Slow ponderous build up on our part and basically a "man for man" marking of Anthony and Edwards nullified most of our threats. A draw was the right result but it came at a big cost.
Trafford 6
Roberts 6
Egan Riley 5 (-1 for being drawn into stupidity at the end)
Esteve 7
Pires 7 Perhaps one of the few that looked sharp. Obviously very fit.
Brownhill 6
Cullen 7
Edwards 5 Needs to stay out wide to at least stretch defence and provide outlet ball.
Hannibal 6 I think the WBA fans got under his skin somewhat. Not his usual self.

Another game we don’t win not starting with Laurent. We were bossed early parts of the game and for periods of the game in middle of the park. Staggered folk suggesting we bossed it - nonsense. Said it before - you only realise the graft he gets through when he isn’t there. Brownhill / Cullen nowhere near as effective and Hannibal was pretty much non existent.

Re: Burnley v West Brom - Player Ratings
Fairly poor display considering all at stake, having said that, I think this will be our most difficult game we have left (and I include Blades in that)
Their goal was blatant cheating, and they got away with it due to the incompetent ref.
I'm half thinking that if Foster is injured we should be starting Barnes in the 9, as Flemming isn't up to it.
