CJ got pointlessly barged after the final whistle blew. He decided to stupidly retaliate. It’s a ridiculously soft red card but hard to see how an appeal will be successful.

That's exactly as I saw it (live) and called the red straight away. Their 19 got away with murder though, he really was a shocker of a player.

What would you have done differently?
A midfield of Laurent, Brownhill and Cullen was laughable in a 2nd half where we were being nullified in midfield. When teams get enough men behind the ball, but have a decent counterattack threat then we are clueless in midfield because the players aren't intelligent enough in their movement to break teams down - they are too cautious. Watch it back and Brownhill was mostly out on the left wing 40 yards from goal for that 2nd part of the 2nd half - if he isn't in a position where he can get into goalscoring positions it's like playing with 10 men. But i don't blame the players tonight - we've seen it often enough as many posters have said for many a game this season. Go for a 4-4-2 with Cullen holding, playing a bit more directly with 2 centre forwards and then 2 full backs, 2 wingers and an attacking midfielder, i.e. Brownhill picking up 2nd balls/getting into the box later on. It leaves a bit more space on the counter but it gets more men in the box. Like for like did nothing.

I am really struggling to see how anyone can see it as a red?

The law clearly states Violent conduct is when a player uses or attempts to use excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball, or against a team-mate, team official, match official, spectator or any other person, regardless of whether contact is made.

It literally doesn’t tick any of the boxes for a red card.

That tonight has lead me to think we’ll end up having to settle for the play offs.

15 draws this season, and every time we seem to get in a position to capitalise and nudge into the top 2, we seem to be falling short.

With CJ possibly out for 3 games, and the potential for injuries (Foster and Esteve?) it’s a disruption to the team we could really do without.

Hope I’m wrong, but just can’t see automatics happening now.

Let’s not be wetting any beds tonight.

Probably the best team we’ve played at home this season and we weren’t at our best. Result was pretty fair, if anything we edged it a little and we’re up against it with the ref and the competition winners running the line.

It won’t get overturned that. One of those that refs like him absolutely love to give and he was right on top of it immediately. As usual the guy who caused it all unnecessarily gets away with it, that’s the worst thing.

The decision to let Ekdal, Egan and Delcroix all leave is looking pretty crap now

Thought it was a good match and WBA proved a stern test. Would not like to come up against them in the play offs.

As for the red, CJ has reacted to being shoved after the whistle by kicking their player. I can't see that being overturned unfortunately.

Silly boy for doing it in the first place but not a sending off and hopefully over turned on appeal.

If that was a red card, then certainly Cullen should have been sent off for his trip on 85 minutes. I would have thought their number 11 would have been worried after just 2 minutes as well, but his was shirt-pulling to a massive degree so would only be a yellow card - at least, a yellow card for all but the simplest of referees.

Cullen didn't even get booked for it, it was GBH compared to CJ's trip.

Match highlights don't really show it but live it looked like a clear red for CJ. Their forward barged him well after the whistle had gone, he retaliated. Whether it was a trip or a kick is largely irrelevant because there is no argument that it was a tackle; the game had ended.

No chance that is getting overturned, likewise the red for Parker. Regardless of how bad the ref was, if he said something inappropriate that red card sticks.

Tight game last night. West Brom were very well organised and did an excellent job of smothering us. It was notable just how often the forced Edwards away from the final third to receive the ball - they really nullified what he’s good at. What we lacked was any pace to go longer to and threaten in behind.

As for the red card, it’s dadt, but very soft. It’s certainly not “violent”. Hopefully we appeal and get away with it.

With regards to the red card I can't see it being rescinded.

When we played Blackpool two seasons ago a similar incident occurred when Maatsen got sent off for pushing the Blackpool player, who also received a red card for the trip if I remember.

Both red cards were upheld.

I think we were guilty of being too nice. They all needed first team football but sometimes you have to put the clubs need first.

It never really feels like we can step on the gas and force a goal in the last 15 minutes when we need one. We've not ended many games with the opposition pinned back in their area desperately defending. It's all just one speed.

9 of our 15 drawn games have now been at home
That is just so poor by anyone's standards - 47% of home games dropping points
We actually have a higher win percentage when playing away - 53% at home 56% away
Teams know to sit back against us at home and Parker just doesn't have a Plan B
Other than Plan A and replace like for like
