when we go up ...
Are there any players from the three teams coming down or Leeds (who will fail miserably in the play-offs) that we can realistically sign that would improve our squad?

A few..maybe Winks, Gnonto and Walker-Peters off the top of my head. Dan James would probably be useful depth to the squad as well.

These are the sort of conversations you have with your mate at work or in the pub, opposition fans will be taking screenshot ready to pounce.
Personally, I hate them as they generally bite you on the arse and theres a hell of a battle still to go yet.

Since we're being optimistic, Delap

I think we were looking at Delap years ago, but he chose Stoke as his Dad was there. I never rated him and he did next to nothing for Stoke.
That said he has had a very good season. Someone will probably take a punt on him, I can't see him going back to the Championship.

Delap if we can afford what they want. But he’ll go onto a bigger club I reckon. Wouldn’t touch any of the others as proven not good enough.
We
need a marquee signing, striker ideally. Left back cover too.
Maybe try and buy back sander from Fulham

Re: when we go up ...
Let's be honest, any of Leeds' regular front 4 would improve our squad, most would get into our starting team right now. Plus a couple that they have on the bench. And their left back.
Not sure about the three coming down in terms of viable signings. Those who have stood out like Delap and Dibling will probably move to clubs with deeper pockets than ours. Maybe Ndidi would add a bit of power to midfield that we lacked last time

So adding premier league failures to our squad will keep us up?

Solomon is only on loan, Aaronson over brownhill, really ? Piroe isn't a 9 and James isn't good enough.Bacchus wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 5:18 pmLet's be honest, any of Leeds' regular front 4 would improve our squad, most would get into our starting team right now. You mean like adding Championship failures such as Heaton, Pope and JBG did over the years? Many a player from a 'failing PL team' has gone on to great success at other clubs - Wilson Odobert, for example, was relegated with a failed PL team last season but scored a couple of goals in a Europa League game this week.Goalkeeper wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 5:21 pmSo adding premier league failures to our squad will keep us up?

Re: when we go up ...
I know Solomon is a loan, but so is Edwards if we're playing by those rules. Piroe has 15 goals this season, more than all of our strikers together. James has 10, more than all our wingers put together. Aaronson is a different profile to Brownhill, far more creative and also has a good few goals this season.

Re: when we go up ...
Here’s the list I would go for:
Southampton:
Tyler Dibling (very unlikely)
Walker Pieters
Ipswich:
Leif Davis
Omari Hutchinson
Leicester:
Ndidi
Soumare (had an under rated season in my opinion)
Sheffield:
Hamer
Burrows
I would also be tempted to take a risk on Souza or Campbell
Leeds:
Firpo has looked really good every time I have seen them.
Tanaka looks Leeds best player.

Re: when we go up ...
None from a relegated club. With many they are too good for the Championship, not good enough for the PL. This will be O’Sheas third successive PL relegation and Ramsdales third, although I rate him higher.
What we still need is a goalscorer. We need to look abroad.

Re: when we go up ...
You are right about the goal scorer situation, I think foster has proven he’s more effective as a counter attacking striker in the prem but even so our entire forward line has been incredibly poor at goal scoring this season.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 8:48 pmNone from a relegated club. We need a striker and winger than can notch if we go up.
As good as Anthony has been recently his goal returns have been poor and we would be needing him to notch/assist similar levels in the prem as he has in the championship this season.
Re: when we go up ...
Jens Cajuste has been Ipswich’s best player from what I’ve seen. Bit of an all rounder centre mid. On loan from Napoli, they had a purchase option of £10m if they stayed up. I think his performances might attract an established PL team though.
Someone mentioning Delap is funny, that lad is going for £30m+ and quite comfortably to one of the ‘big teams’. As for striker discussion, I’m keeping a close eye on Yousef Salech at Cardiff, him and Isidor the only two strikers I’ve been really impressed with this season, and his profile (tall & physical) comes in handy in the Prem.

Re: when we go up ...
Do you think the club will buy from England for a striker? I just think the cost might rule that out. Got to imagine if that Salech keeps banging them in, Cardiff will be looking for 20m plus?RVclaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 9:21 pmJens Cajuste has been Ipswich’s best player from what I’ve seen. Re: when we go up ...
I’d like us to. I feel there’s less of a transition / shock. Delap has shown this season how having physicality & aggression gives you a good starting point at least, Adebayo the season before. I can’t see Cardiff being in the financial position to demand close to that, they might even go down yet!Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 9:30 pmDo you think the club will buy from England for a striker? Re: when we go up ...
Do you actually need to be good enough for the Prem, or just as players like Matt Lowton were, good enough for a team that in its entirety was good enough to compete at that level?Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 8:48 pmNone from a relegated club. Think your dissing Lowton there. He was more than a good enough RB for a few seasons.
The more PL level players you have the better, surely?

Re: when we go up ...
That was our biggest weakness last time and would be again. The Prem is getting like US sports now, where the biggest and best athletes are chosen, then they coach them to do whatever. Even in our all conquering promotion under Kompany, in that cup game against a crap Man Utd team, we played some nice stuff but were miles off it physically.
Laurent makes a positive difference for us in this league and he's nowhere near one of our best players, but he's a unit. The problem is, in that league, you need to find - and afford - several Josh Laurents who can also play. You watch some mid-table Prem games and think we wouldn't last two minutes against these.

Barnes started for the Mags in the Cup Final, he'll be on a massive whack.
Re: when we go up ...
Presuming Trafford goes, Cooper from Sheff Utd would be a no brainer if we want to spend that much on another keeper.

Watching Joellinton on Sunday, transformed from a poor CF to a dynamic midfielder, could we do the same with Lyle.
He's fast, has a good touch (when he isn't shooting), holds the ball up well and protects it, links play..........

I still think there's a place for small players if they have the ability.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 10:16 amThat was our biggest weakness last time and would be again. I can't imagine the likes of Paul Scholes would struggle today even if faced with bigger players. It's just that Josh Cullen doesn't have Premier league ability

Don't attack me here, but I quite the look of the big lad upfront for Blackburn..he can score goals, he's a.powerful player,.I think he's decent with his feet for a big unit and certainly an option if we are chasing equalisers or even winning goals..

I think we should target Daizen Meida at Celtic. Lightening fast and has energy to burn, plus can play across all the front positions.
Wouldn’t cost that much and won’t be on a high wage either.
