The frustrating thing is we'd reached a situation under SD where we weren't being thumped every week. We were actually more than holding our own and we were extremely competitive both home and away. I agree we started every season with the aim of reaching the magical 40 point mark because yes let's be honest, we were never going to win the thing and survival was the first and most important goal. But still, we had a run of several seasons where we were doing ok thank you and were becoming something of a fixture in the PL, which goes to show it CAN be done. Then of course, we chucked it away!!!

I hate the Premier League, but without the money every other year or 1 in 3 we will struggle to maintain the wage bill and quality of player we have. If the rot sets in it'll be very difficult to get back to where we are, and have been IMO. It'll need a 'Judas' type season to make it happen.

Edited to add, I would love to reach the dizzy heights of 7th then actually investing in some quality players. Such a missed opportunity and the start of the gradual decline that summer.

I want promotion to look forward to a manager with some tactical acumen giving us a decent chance of staying up.
Yes, we all know how difficult it’s going to be but we can always hope (and I realise it’s the hope that kills you!)

I'm one of our fans that wants to see us promoted but enjoy seeing us play well in the Championship again. Can't have your cake and eat it though.

Why I'd want us to be promoted is mainly for the finances. It is nice to see us playing at the highest league level, however, and it also leaves us with good memories of seeing some of the worlds best players play against us at the Turf.

Yep, no doubt we did great by punching well above our weight! However, the game has moved on immeasurably since those days and I think the gap his widened further making what we did a bit of a thing of the past. I hope I’m proved wrong, but the fact is it’s becoming more common for the teams that go up only to come straight back down again.

Our support all want us to go up, but then the away games there is 100% more scrambles for tickets in the championship. We struggle to shift many at prem level and there are capped at £30 also strange.

If the three promoted clubs at the end of this season come straight back down, making it three seasons in a row I wonder how long before the government, F.A. & Premier league think they might have to do something about it?

When far bigger clubs than Bournemouth, for example, can no longer even get a foot hold in the Prem then something will need to done.

Only be 2 seasons in a row at the end of this season won't it ?

BURNLEY FC the Yo-Yo club . I really have no problem with going up and down to and from the EPL.
It keeps the club financially sound and the hope and dreams of good cup runs.
At least you get excitement and trepidation at both ends of the table each season.!

Because the league is a competition and the aim should be to do your best, in this case get promoted. Whether that happens and, if it does how next season goes, remains to be seen but the interest is in trying and finding out. The lack of this approach to cup competitions is why they are now pointless.

This is an excellent question.
For me it is not a simple choice, of the Premiership at all costs. It is more enjoyable in the Championship as we have been quite successful against other teams in this division.
Getting hammered is not fun, and we did have an awful start to the 23/24 but then our early fixtures were really tough.
However if we can prepare better retain the spirit and quality players we have a sporting chance of staying the Premiership. For me it is about aspiration and being able to play against sone really good teams , and seeing some wonderful players.
There is the financial boost which spent wisely will help the club enormously in the long run.
Staying in the Championship is about enjoyment in the short term but at what cost in the long run , selling your better players to make ends meet is the road to nowhere and Division One.

I wouldn't be so sure. We'd have to eventually cut to having basically the lowest wage budget in the division and live off free transfers and small transfer fees.
I don't think all these Americans have invested in the club to be a low budget Championship/league 1 club. I think they'd happily take quite big risks to give us the chance to get back up.
I think in terms of the £40m secured debt it’s fair to say our assets significantly outstrip our debt, so that’s a good thing.

In terms of what they might do to get back up I agree they would likely try and take some risks. I think they’d have to find it themselves though because I doubt you’d see other lenders funding that when the risk is so high and the trajectory of income pointing much lower.

I think they’d have to fund that themselves somehow and whether they can is a different question but while the £88/80m capital injections in the two parent companies remain unexplained, I retain a view that some cash may exist somewhere in the structure. Whether that would ever be used to support the club is a different question.

Yes, at the end of this season. It was considered very unusual for all three promoted clubs to come straight back down, but as is almost certain again this time then alarm bells should start ringing as it will have occured in consecutive years.

And especially if the same thing also happens to those teams getting promoted (hopefully us) this time.
