just seen Notts Forest season ticket info for next season and came across this worrying paragraph.

From the 2026/27 Season it will be mandatory in the Premier League for all clubs to issue and operate digital tickets only.

that is going to stress a lot of the older generation and technical dinosaurs (myself included) out.

certainly going to be non-league for me going forward.

I will be 72 at the start of next season and am not at al fazed by digital ticketing, online purchasing nor social media (apart from how ignorant far too many people seem to be). Anyone my age has been dealing with computers for around 40/45 years already and almost everyone has a smart phone they use regularly, certainly at my walking football sessions (65+ and 70+) everyone has booked online and keeps in contact through our WhatsApp group. Maybe those in their late 80s might struggle but the vast majority of pension age people will be absolutely fine with it.

You could pick up a basic Smartphone on PAYG for £20. If all you used it for was tickets and downloaded them whilst on your home Wi-Fi then it wouldn't cost you a penny more as you'd never have to use any credit for any mobile data

It won’t be digital tickets only but the clubs in the PL will be required to have a percentage of their tickets digital which I believe is around 70%. That’s the info I’ve been given but I’ll check on it to ensure it’s right.

I’m happy with digital tickets but that doesn’t make it right for anyone to have it forced on them and that’s why I believe they can’t and won’t push for all to be digital.

For the minimal amount of people that this will hinder I'm sure exceptions can be made. No point rejecting a much better and modern system in order to cater for a very small minority.

Does anyone know why we have turnstile operators still AND stewards outside the turnstiles at Turf Moor?

I always scan my own card to get in. There’s absolutely no need for turnstile operators and this is a complete waste of money for the club. I notice a lot of other clubs in our league don’t bother having them.

You wouldn't get in without the turnstile operators - we don't have automatic turnstiles. He/she checks the validity of the ticket once scanned and releases the gate you go through. The turnstiles should have been replaced when we brought in the new system back in 2014, but the safety officer at the time didn't want them so we went with this system.

On the subject of scanning your own card, I'm amazed that some people still try handing it over. That should not happen and was outlawed following Covid. I went to the U21 game last week and those tickets were digital and the woman on the turnstile demanded that I pass my phone to her. I refused and there was another bloke having just gone through who was complaining about her.

As for digital tickets. I've said, they work for me and I have absolutely no issue in using them home or away or both, but I believe provision should be made for those who prefer a card and at no additional cost.

You are supposed to scan it yourself, handing cards over was stopped after the pandemic. You should be refusing to.

I've been scanning my own card since covid until the 1-1 defeat to that lot earlier this season
As I scanned, 'Already in use' (or words to that effect) appeared on the screen and I was refused entry.
So I had to go to the ticket office and join around 30 others to get a printed ticket.
I missed the first ten minutes or so of the match and every game since then I have handed my ticket over to the operator.

The "older generation" as described are not technophobes anymore, people in their 70s and 80s will have been using computers etc for large portions of their lives.

It's one thing that grates me is that people still think of our OAPs as war time survivors etc longing for the olden days.

In the last 18 months of her life my grandma had to deal with the new decimal currency which must have been an ordeal for someone elderly with limited education. All my mum had to deal with was mastering the Sky remote.

We’ve digressed off topic a little but my grandad needed a new tv but the remote had so many buttons on it it was too confusing for him.
I ended up wrapping it in cardboard and only having the power, numbers & volume buttons visible so he couldn’t press anything else

Personally I think it will see the end to paper tickets but can't see them doing away with having a card. Scanning a card is the equivalent of scanning your phone screen. It would be bonkers to do away with that.

My equivalent seat at Stoke would be £519, over 65s would be £399 for a seat in the middle of the main stand.

So my seat is £30 a season more, how much are our over 65 season tickets in the Longside upper.

They were certainly getting a good amount out of the fans in 2007 while charging those figures in the Championship, meanwhile they look set to continue not finishing higher than 14th since relegation in 2018.

I sit in the most expensive seats at Burnley - the adult price I think is £530 while the over 65 price is £360. At Stoke, in the centre block facing the dug outs (i.e. the equivalent), the prices are adults £379-£399 and over 65s £279-£299.

Stoke might be a bit cheaper, but they haven't had the success we have had recently to pay for.

If you're happy with the price, then pay it....if not don't, and based on our sales the vast majority are happy and don't look for every little thing to have a dig at.

Not a great fan, however, a bit like plane tickers, nowadays, you get used to it. The only downside with football is that wifi tends to be impossible at the ground. I download at home abd take a screenshot. That is my double indemnity.

I am 71, 72cin June. We can do this.

to revert to this.. we always scan our own - but the setup of the turnstiles/scanner/screen means that you would ordinarily assume that you needed to pass it to the operator unless you'd clicked that this was the case.
