Re: Marcus Edwards
He is absolute quality but personally thing Jaidon Anthony is performing as well if not better. I dont think I have ever seen a better Burnley player with a better first touch?
Didn't think that was one of his better games today but still brilliant.

Sublime player
Re: Marcus Edwards
Sees a pass snd also has the skill to do things with it and defenders.
Re: Marcus Edwards
Anthony fluffed his line a fair bit today, on another day he could probably have had three or four goals. That being said, he just kept going and worked his socks off - he didn’t let his head drop which is credit to him.Guller Bull wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 4:56 pmHe is absolute quality but personally thing Jaidon Anthony is performing as well if not better. Edwards oozes quality. I just think we need to learn to take advantage of the extra men we have, when there are two or three men trying to take care of Edwards.

Does so many things so well but slow getting crosses in and getting his shot off. Today he had so many opportunities for both.

Re: Marcus Edwards
Anthony is much more of a threat because of Edwards.
Quite often there are 2, 3 or even 4 players around him and the opposition still can't get the ball off him.
I am a big fan of Anthony's but Edwards is a far better player.

Excellent addition-the ball seems to stick to his feet. What is frightening is I don't think we have yet to see the best of him, and that bodes well in the next 7or so games

Re: Marcus Edwards
Maybe im completely in the wrong, but given Edward’s’ (and Anthony for that matter) enormous talent I just think they could offer a lot more from taking less touches.
Re: Marcus Edwards
He frustrates the hell out of me, he twists ant turns, makes numerous openings and doesn’t shoot. I’m obviously in the minority, he’s a good player but I’ve not seen enough from him to convince me he’s “quote” “ far too good for the championship”.

Think it would help if we cut down on the watering. Twists and turns are more difficult when it's slippy.

I've not seen some of our recent matches but thought today was his best performance since the Wednesday game (where he set the bar very high).
Fitness level: he's now able to play to good effect for more or less 90 minutes which is great news.

Re: Marcus Edwards
Edwards gets better the nearer he gets to the opposition byline. He's a borderline liability in the defensive third, average in the middle third, and v good in the final third, rising to mesmeric the closer he gets to the byline. He has the ability to take an extra touch when defenders don't expect it. He has had a hugely positve impact on our attacking end product, which includes drawing defenders and making space for others but a mention for Josh Laurent who compensates for any defensive frailties from playing Edwards.
I really like Anthony. Sublime first touch, great athleticism and reads the game (offensively and defensively) so well. I believe he is ready to cement a PL place.
Really good all round performance today. V chuffed.

Re: Marcus Edwards
Edwards has made a massive difference and imo is why we are winning almost every home game. However, a massive shout for Anthony, his first touch is incredible. He just needs more compuser with chances and he would be worth a fortune.

Re: Marcus Edwards
Some interesting comments regarding our wide men. I thought both played really well today, but for some reason we are still lacking the final touch, pass or shot all too often.
With that in mind, Anthony missed two great chances in the first half and he should have done much better. Incredibly, the stats show only 3 shots on target for us which is nuts considering our dominance! It’s still very much a work in progress from an attacking standpoint at least, and thank goodness for our ridiculous defence!!

Re: Marcus Edwards
Above all else, what he's doing is creating space elsewhere because his close control amd dribbling are so good teams are scared. Anthony in particular is a beneficiary of that.
I thought Edwards was very good today but at times he needs a runner beyond and that is why he sometimes holds the ball longer - hes looking for that runner which he'llbe used to at the top level. Brownhill gave him that in the first half, Foster did when he came on but that came at the expense of Flemming's link play. Given Anthony had a day when his final product wasn't quite there, I'd have liked to see Foster come on with a brief to come off the left and get behind Flemming to give Edwards a different target.

Re: Marcus Edwards
Totally agree with claretspice. Said after the match that his skill levels are such that he needs someone with him, someone to make runs into space or create more space for him. An absolute gem of a player who just seems to make things happen.

Re: Marcus Edwards
Has that great ability to turn a dodgy pass into a decent one and absolutely excellent at keeping the ball. He keeps the opposition occupied and guessing and that's helping others to shine. He's high quality and up there with anything we've had in the past few seasons.
Re: Marcus Edwards
Agree
And seems to have little confidence with his right foot
Better than Benson but needs to show more down his right side to be the complete package
Re: Marcus Edwards
You can see he’s a top player, but I don’t get why he feels he has to beat a man more than once.

He's only on loan to us till the end of the season unfortunately.
He has certainly boosted our chances of promotion but I can't see him staying .. promotion or not.

Re: Marcus Edwards
This is where rthe totally one footed thing comes through (and for some reason it seems worse with left footers).
If he turns onto his right, he doesn't have the confidence to use it, so turns back again on his left.
If he keeps hold of the ball-which he almost always does - its not a major problem. But defenders will pick up on it.

Re: Marcus Edwards
He has moved our offensive play into another dimension.
He won the free kick from which Flemming scored the winner.

Re: Marcus Edwards
Since he's starting games, we've won 5 out of 6 and scored 14 goals in the process. I think his whole presence gives us another dimension and allows others more space. Noticed at times he drifted inside and Brownhill went out on the right to cover. Obviously a plan from Parker to get him more involved.

Re: Marcus Edwards
He’s got the ball on a very short piece of string, low centre of gravity, strength, vision to spot a pass and the ability to make it. The only criticism I have is that when he finds that half a yard on his left foot he has a habit of dragging it back onto his right rather than unleashing. I applaud his composure rather than just hitting shots that will be blocked, but he needs to work those opportunities to unleash, like Benson does. He doesn’t have raw pace which makes this harder, but he should be bagging for fun at this level.

Re: Marcus Edwards
This is very true. He has clever movement and finds little pockets of space in central areas of the pitch which leave opportunities out wide. Roberts’ clever runs are also key.Ric_C wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 11:22 amSince he's starting games, we've won 5 out of 6 and scored 14 goals in the process. Re: Marcus Edwards
He was quiet yesterday but was up against a decent player in DaSilva. That said his presence on the pitch distracts the opposition creating space elsewhere and Anthony in particular has benefited from that

Spot on. Yesterday was one of Edwards weaker performances but he was still a handful and he’s making space all over the pitch.Culmclaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 9:59 amHe was quiet yesterday but was up against a decent player in DaSilva. Re: Marcus Edwards
His first start was against Wednesday and since then our xG on fbRef has been 1.6, 1.4, 2.7, 1.5, 1.8, 1.9, 1.4. Average 1.75 goals per game.
Leeds are way ahead of the rest over the season and their xG is 1.82 per game, again on fbRef.
So in other words we have caught up with Leeds offensively yet still have a much stronger defence. Promotion is now ours to lose. We just need a clean bill of health and a fair wind with refs for a change.

Re: Marcus Edwards
Another Edwards stat - expected assists per game 0.30, almost double any other BFC player (Anthony and Foster are on 0.16). That directly links to our improved xG for those interested.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 10:22 amHis first start was against Wednesday and since then our xG on fbRef has been 1.6, 1.4, 2.7, 1.5, 1.8, 1.9, 1.4. He sometimes gets isolated out wide right. Perhaps we need to give him a bit more support.
