Trafford 6 hard to score him, hardly had owt to do
Roberts 8 really good
Esteve 8 an absolute beast
Egan-Riley 8 covers so well
Lucas Pires 8 contender for MOM
Cullen 9 MOM imperious
Laurent 7 started really well, but faded.
Brownhill 6 quiet
Edwards 8 makes a huge difference
Anthony 6 his worst game for us, but still worked so hard.
Flemming 7 a real pain for their defence and a world-class goal.

Foster 5 needs a run of games, but not gonna happen

How was that only 1 nil. A mix of wasteful finishing and bodies on the line from Bristol City defenders kept the score that way. It wouldn't have flattered us had we won by 4 or 5.

Trafford 7
Roberts 8
Esteve 8
CJ 8
Pires 8 (best game in a Burnley shirt IMO)
Cullen 9*
Laurent 7
Brownhill 7
Edwards 8
Anthony 6 (good job we won or he'd be getting pelters for those misses tonight!)
Flemming 8 (best game in a Burnley shirt IMO)

Foster 5
Hannibal 5

Trafford 7 - quiet but competent
Roberts 8 - very busy and got stuck in at both ends
Esteve 8 - pace allowed him to recover a couple of times
CJER 8 - couple of very good headers and other interceptions
Pires 8 - really good game, just needs a little more composure but improving
Cullen 9 -superb display of controlling a game
Laurent 8 - perfect foil for Cullen, mopped up most things
Brownhill 7 - quiet for him for not a bad game
Edwards 8 - very dangerous, looks half hearted but he is constantly probing, terrifies the opposition
Anthony 6 - great dribbling, energy and heart but his decision making and finishing were substandard, me being generous
Flemming 7 - some good hold up play but never won the foul and dropped too deep too often even for a false 9

Foster 7 - added something, zest and power to the front line

A terrific performance that lay down a marker and should have been 3 or 4. I thought we were a little slow paced at times, allowing them to hang on, that comes down to risk taking. Edwards makes a huge difference, he doesn’t blaze it first time of asking he probes and probes. This transforms the whole forward line. If he had lightening pace he’d be some player even at the level above, as it is he is more than good enough for us.

Genuine 3 horse race now. I think whoever is the next to lose will miss out.

Trafford 7: Full regalia: deckchair, pipe and slippers. That said was ready for their first shot on goal in the 91st minute.
Roberts 7: Focused on defence to enable Edwards to stay forward. Solid.
CJER 8: As per.
Estève 8: Anecdotic but his recovery taking the ball elegantly away from their attacker even though the latter was offside summed this lad up.
Pires 7: Looks so much more comfortable. The fans believe in him.
Cullen 9: The man who pulleth the strings.
Laurent 7: Played his role in winning the ball and getting it forward.
Brownhill 7: Was in the lurking and could have notched another.
Edwards 8: One of his best performances. Seemed a bit too keen to score but worked tirelessly and really tested their defence.
Flemming 7: Excellent free-kick. Thought he played better today.
Anthony 8: Ok, he should have scored but he was everywhere, in attack, in midfield, in defence.

Foster 6: Got in to space once but Anthony didn't see him.

We hammered them one-nil and played some very good football. They defended well and had to because a second could have opened the floodgates.

Off the back of 24hrs travelling back from south east Asia, this was the perfect pick me up, a really excellent team performance that only lacked the finishing touch of the extra goals it deserved. Bristol are in great form and looked a tidy, if blunt, side but this was a one nil thrashing; with better finishing it would have been 6.

Trafford 7 largely unemployed but on it when he was

Roberts 8 working really well with Edwards, thought he might have done better with his shot

Egan-Riley 8 assured as ever and got in a crucial block when needed

Esteve 8 funny watching their big lump up top try to bully him as he had no other options. Failed obvs.

Pires 8 his best game for us by some distance, really settled in after a run in the side and he’s anticipating things much better and getting in earlier than he was

Cullen 10 metronome deluxe. Absolutely ran that game from start to finish.

Laurent 8 everywhere and the perfect physical foil for Cullen. He’s more than that though, loads of energy and some real good bits with ball at his feet.

Brownhill 8 in the middle, then on the left, then on the right ad infinitum. Absolutely key to us playing well.

Edwards 8 the only real criticism of him is maybe not shooting enough when he has the opportunity but once again he was involved in most of our chances and even when he does hold on to the ball a bit longer, it opens up space for others.

Anthony 7 yes he should have had 2 and could have had 4 but as it didn’t affect the result, it’d be harsh to mark him down too much. The misses didn’t get to him. He started the season well but he’s really grown as a player as we’ve gone on, workrate is incredible for a winger, first touch is exquisite and he doesn’t stop.

Flemming 8 the free kick was Blake-esque but his all round game was superb yesterday. He held the ball up and linked play really well - the way he takes the ball down from goal kicks instead of trying to flick a header on is great - and he played some really intelligent passes. Like Anthony and Brownhill in particular he’s good for being in for the second ball and keeping things alive in and around the box.

Foster 6 played his part and got into good positions twice but the ball was played to someone else.

I’ve said since the start of the season, even after the August window shut, that we’re the best team in this league. We’re really looking it right now.

Not going to score everybody as I watched on TV.

But ……. Josh Laurent. He was excellent in shutting Twine down.

Twine was very obviously dropping between midfield and defence and looking to receive the ball and Bristol were looking to thread it in.

Laurent was constantly scanning where Twine was and block on the pass so that it was never on. Always looking over his shoulder for Twine’s movement and adjusting himself so that they just couldn’t get him in the game.

Little micro-adjustments that you wouldn’t necessarily see watching the game in the ground. But really clever stuff from Laurent, very disciplined and a great example of us doing our homework. Laurent absolutely has his limitations but for £500k he’s been brilliant ….. and his strength and stamina to drive us up the pitch in the later stages of the game is fantastic too.

Won’t be good enough for the Prem I’d imagine . But a very astute signing.
