Connected plastic bottle tops
Connected plastic bottle tops
Another loony European ruling or a terrific invention. Personally I just rip them off the attached piece and use them as normal. I find they lead to more leakages. What about you?

Re: Connected plastic bottle tops
An inconvenience, but it's made football clubs stop taking bottle tops off when selling.
So it evens out.
So it evens out.

I think they're great. Open the bottle and twist the lid away and upside down, sorted.
Re: Connected plastic bottle tops
As Qtt says it stops football clubs taking them off and causing spillages etc ...
Never seen the problem personally.

Shite when trying to drink a protein drink whilst driving, the thick liquid still clinging to the lid always drips down my work shirt.
Has got that Jamie Oliver's name all over it, I'm not sure how but he always likes to come along and ruin everything...

Re: Connected plastic bottle tops
They’re a distraction in every sense and a trifle too.
They do a tiny bit of good in that they lead to slightly more recycling.
But they distract from the bigger picture: plastic is not readily recyclable. We need to vastly cut down the amount of plastic we use.

Re: Connected plastic bottle tops
Completely crap and pointless EU madness and crackers that UK chose to participate in it.
Those bottles they sell at the Turf now, they explode all over my hands when I try to open them. The horrible flip tops in other products are a pain when driving when one cannot see where the obstructive top is.
Business is easy - you give a customer what they want and don’t give them what they don’t want. The trouble is, when bureaucrats start fiddling with this logic, it leads to poor quality products. Don’t regulate. Educate.

I can open these bottles and drink out of them easily which suggests that some of you are struggling with basic motor skills.

Had them for several years here in Spain, before streets used to have bottle lids all over the place, not anymore & a great idea. What’s the next moan? Tin foil is silver?

I don’t blame the law or the manufacturers,I blame human beings who are incapable of screwing a top back onto the bottle after they have finished their drink

You do know you’re not supposed to be drinking when at the wheel? But that aside the simple rotation of your bottle through 90 degrees will stop the bottle top obstructing your view.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 10:16 amCompletely crap and pointless EU madness and crackers that UK chose to participate in it.

Re: Connected plastic bottle tops
Don’t have a problem with the idea, but as others have pointed out there is a flaw when drinking more viscous beverages. I’m not going to pretend I drink protein shakes, but I usually have one of those Innocent fruit smoothies with my lunch and having also had a nice piece of knitwear stained by residual smoothie juice clinging to the cap, I now have to tongue the inside of the cap before drinking, which isn’t really the look I want to go for.

Re: Connected plastic bottle tops
It depends where the lid is. If it's on a water or coke bottle then there's not usually an issue as you can open it beyond 180 degrees, but if its on a pyramid type container, like orange cartons, where you can only open it around 90 degrees then it often flicks back down and causes spillage.

Re: Connected plastic bottle tops
I'll throw another one into the mix - vacuumed packed minced meat. We buy most of our meat from the local butcher, however for years we've bought 99% lean beef mince from supermarkets. No longer, though. The vacuumed packed stuff is like buying a large raw burger shaped like a brick. I'm all for cutting down on plastic waste, but not when it's replaced by something that somewhat screws up the product.

Genuine question, does it make a difference once it's cooked? We don't use mince too often but I've noticed that change too.Clovius Boofus wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 1:10 pmI'll throw another one into the mix - vacuumed packed minced meat. Re: Connected plastic bottle tops
Apparently we, the UK , didn’t opt into it but manufacturers were not going to have two types of bottle tops as that would mean having two types of production machines so we had no choice.

Re: Connected plastic bottle tops
There use to be a time when you were asked to remove the bottle tops when putting them in the recycling bin
Mind, there also you to be a time when metal, glass & plastic had to be in separate bins, before the collection came along and chucked them all together

It needs a bit more breaking up with a wooden spoon but not really.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 2:38 pmGenuine question, does it make a difference once it's cooked? We don't use mince too often but I've noticed that change too.

It's a pain to break up into tiny pieces, like you could when it was sold in trays. You are basically dealing with a block of mince that's no longing loose because it has been tightly squashed by being vac-packed.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 2:38 pmGenuine question, does it make a difference once it's cooked? Re: Connected plastic bottle tops
Im not so sure that it actually cuts down on plastic waste as its gone from a plastic tray that was recyclable with only the thin plastic sheet on top that isnt to the whole packaging now being none recylcable plastic. they need to make it so all plastic used is recylable no matter where you are in the country, its daft that in some places yogurt pots etc can be recycled but in others they are not and the crews leave them in the bin or strewn across the street.Clovius Boofus wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 1:10 pmI'll throw another one into the mix - vacuumed packed minced meat.
