Another loony European ruling or a terrific invention. Personally I just rip them off the attached piece and use them as normal. I find they lead to more leakages. What about you?

Those bottles they sell at the Turf now, they explode all over my hands when I try to open them. The horrible flip tops in other products are a pain when driving when one cannot see where the obstructive top is.

Business is easy - you give a customer what they want and don’t give them what they don’t want. The trouble is, when bureaucrats start fiddling with this logic, it leads to poor quality products. Don’t regulate. Educate.

You do know you’re not supposed to be drinking when at the wheel? But that aside the simple rotation of your bottle through 90 degrees will stop the bottle top obstructing your view.

Don’t have a problem with the idea, but as others have pointed out there is a flaw when drinking more viscous beverages. I’m not going to pretend I drink protein shakes, but I usually have one of those Innocent fruit smoothies with my lunch and having also had a nice piece of knitwear stained by residual smoothie juice clinging to the cap, I now have to tongue the inside of the cap before drinking, which isn’t really the look I want to go for.

It depends where the lid is. If it's on a water or coke bottle then there's not usually an issue as you can open it beyond 180 degrees, but if its on a pyramid type container, like orange cartons, where you can only open it around 90 degrees then it often flicks back down and causes spillage.

No longer, though. The vacuumed packed stuff is like buying a large raw burger shaped like a brick. I'm all for cutting down on plastic waste, but not when it's replaced by something that somewhat screws up the product.

Apparently we, the UK , didn’t opt into it but manufacturers were not going to have two types of bottle tops as that would mean having two types of production machines so we had no choice.

There use to be a time when you were asked to remove the bottle tops when putting them in the recycling bin

Mind, there also you to be a time when metal, glass & plastic had to be in separate bins, before the collection came along and chucked them all together

It's a pain to break up into tiny pieces, like you could when it was sold in trays. You are basically dealing with a block of mince that's no longing loose because it has been tightly squashed by being vac-packed.

Im not so sure that it actually cuts down on plastic waste as its gone from a plastic tray that was recyclable with only the thin plastic sheet on top that isnt to the whole packaging now being none recylcable plastic. they need to make it so all plastic used is recylable no matter where you are in the country, its daft that in some places yogurt pots etc can be recycled but in others they are not and the crews leave them in the bin or strewn across the street.
