Keep the Claret flag flying high at Sheff Utd game

Post by wilks_bfc » Thu Apr 10, 2025 11:42 am

But only if pre-approved by the club first

https://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/con ... -turf-moor
Fans encouraged to create a sea of flags from the Sheffield United fixture

From the Clarets Easter Monday fixture against Sheffield United supporters will be encouraged to bring flags to Turf Moor.

The Club acknowledges that many supporters like to display flags and having listened to feedback, we’re pleased to announce a process to allow supporters to bring approved flags into the stadium.

To apply to bring a flag to Turf Moor for the game against the Blades, please visit our Supporter FAQ page here and make a matchday flag request.

Once we have received and reviewed your submission, we will let you know by way of reply if your flag request has been approved.

In order to be approved, flags must meet the following criteria:

No larger than 90cm x 60cm.
Be made of fire-retardant material with an attached label.
The flag can be attached to a wooden or plastic pole, no longer than 1m.
The flag design must be submitted to the Club for approval and must not contain any offensive messaging or imagery.
Any flag that does not meet the above criteria will not be permitted.

Ahead of kick-off at the Sheffield United fixture, the Club will be distributing 2,000 flags to the first fans through the turnstiles. These flags will form part of the new flag policy at Burnley FC and can be re-used at future games.

We welcome supporters who wish to bring flags to matches at our stadium and appreciate them being displayed at kick-off and during goal celebrations only, as the safety and enjoyment of all attending a match is our priority. Flags should not obstruct a fellow supporter’s view or impede gangways, access routes or stadium signage.

Please note that Burnley FC will not be liable for any loss or damage to your flag whilst inside the venue and our Crowd Safety team reserve the right to remove the flag from display at any time. Any misuse of flags may result in it being confiscated.

The deadline to submit a flag request for the Sheffield United fixture is Thursday 17th April at 12pm. For future fixtures, all requests should be made no later than 72 working hours before the matchday.

Firmly at the business end of the season and with so much to play for your support is needed now more than ever before. We look forward to receiving your flag requests as we come together to support Scott and the team for our remaining fixtures!

Wouldn't it be easier if they just put flags on everyone's seat?

You’d think so wouldn’t you

They are giving out 2000 of them, but that’s either going to be 2000 scattered randomly around the ground or 2000 all in one stand

Either way it’ll look “tinpot”

Again the intention is there., but just poorly thought out and executed

Listened to feedback? Really? By only allowing flags on a pole less than 90cm x 60cm?

I don’t think they realise that we generally don’t wave flags, but have them draped/hung.

How can they say they acknowledge fans like to display flags, and then stipulate they have to be a small size and attached to a pole? That is 2 different things.

Still, the distribution of 2 thousand flags is a nice touch.

It doesn't say it has to be on a pole.

Read it properly before engaging moan offensive

Yep- misread the ‘can’ bit, thought it said ‘must’. My mistake.

But my points still stand. They can’t say they acknowledge fans like to display flags and then stipulate they have to be 90x60cm.

I'd say not allowing loads of Chinese made flammable materials into a place with loads of people ain't a bad idea.

I'd imagine Chinese flags would be far too expensive now with all the tariffs :)

I've honestly never had a conversation with a fan about flags at the Turf.

The people who gave this feedback must be keeping their opinions to themselves.

 I remember having one back in roughly 2000, along with a claret and blue jester hat with bells on it.

You don't really see them anymore and of all things that shouldn't get in to a ground like smoke flares, cocaine and ****** up nobheads, I wouldn't have put flags on the list but it has always seemed to be a priority for the H&S Police.

Bring a flag to Turf Moor

Still a few hoops to jump through but I hope people meet the club half way on this, a pleasing development imho

Before Derby on Tuesday I was reading their "visitor information" bit on the website (mainly to see if it recommended any pubs) and noticed they had a bit on flags which was very similar to Burnley's guidelines. I suspect most clubs probably do.

Just measured mine but way over two metres so it’s a no go! Can’t imagine many having ones that meet the guidelines.

Probably just get waved through with a drum in tow.
Whether you'd get out of the stadium without the drum sticks up your ass would be a different matter :)

I wonder how many of those official flags the club bought last season they've got left?
Just give them away to the kids Alan.

I’m I reading this right now? That they’re only allowing “ flags on a pole” ? and little ones at that . As for having to have your flag “ pre approved “ . While I get the club has the intention , but how do we seem to execute everything into a tin pot mess? Anyone remember the last big flag push?…

No your not reading quite right

The flags can only be 90x60cm (3ftx2ft) and have to be approved and fire resistant.
They don’t have to be on a pole, but if there is a pole it can’t be longer than a meter.
