Hannibal

Post by ecc » Sat Apr 12, 2025 10:44 am

This lads's a real mixed bag. He can be nasty although he's calmed down considerably in the last four months since "that" incident.

But he seems to be a really decent lad most of the time, playing with the proverbial smile on his face. You rarely see that today and I love it.

He's clearly very popular with the squad and staff and, I suspect, everybody at TM.

He gives everything for the cause. His harrying and closing down is excellent.

But the best of it all is his ability as a player. He's technically gifted and shows it occasionally. It's not easy to display that skill when your manager asks you to graft.

He finally got his goal last night and it was class. Could have got another two. Maybe that will be the first of several.

A loveable rogue.

Could do worse than stick him up front against Millwall,
at least for part of the game.

Very good player, need to find a spot for him, gives us real energy with brownhill and forces mistakes

If Brownhill leaves in the summer we've already got our replacement and one that could actually step up to premier league level given time.
Didn't realise on the game just how good and where his run came from, great spot and pass by Cullen but the run was fantastic

All he's missing is a bit more consistency, but got bags of energy and skill, was excellent last night, and has probably had 3 or 4 games of a similar ilk, just needs to do it more often.

He was excellent last night, on and off the ball in equal measure. And his run and finish was top level stuff, along with the pass from Cullen.

Scott Parker has managed him brilliantly this season, especially after the Stoke incident where I recall at least one poster saying he should never play for us again.

He still looks quite raw at times which is a good thing. If he develops a little more and unlocks some of that potential he'll be a capable premier league midfielder.

I thought about that - your second paragraph - last night. What he did was plain wrong. We just have to hope he's learned his lesson.

Listening to SP's interview last night he described him as "infectious" (in the positive sense).

A heart as big as a lion's. Regular game time has been hard to come by over the season and that doesn't help anybody progress whoever they are. He was 'up for it' last night and I was concerned( when am I not I can hear those I sit with saying) that his exuberance might get him noticed by the referee but he was very sensible, took his goal well and almost a second just before half time. Seemed to be struggling a bit energy wise just before he was subbed but that should improve with more game time. Bet he's pleased with his deserved MOTM award.

His goal last night was sublime. From when he started his run and pointing to Cullen where to put the ball. Cullens perfectly weighted pass and the control chesting it down and scoring.

Add these skills to his work rate and we have the making of a Premier League midfielder. He's still a bit rough around the edges and just needs to stay calmer at certain times.

Hannibal had a cracking game last night.
He is another shithousery Barnes who winds up and niggles opponents.
He is technically very good, his chest down, ball control and finish was superb.
Long may he stay a Claret.

Hannibal's biggest improvement over the season has been to better control his temper; there were two occasions last night where you could clearly see (on TV) him taking a beat and checking his impulse for retaliation/dissent.

His energy and speed off the ball played a big factor in Norwich's poor use of the ball in their own half. Their players had him in their eye line when in possession. They know they won't have long on the ball and options will be limited.

Did some really good things last night but was again also wasteful in possession. No stats to back it up but I’m sure he gave the ball away more than any other player which is why I think Parker doesn’t play him more. Our whole set up is based on possession and dominating the ball.

That said, he’s great pressing from the front and helping to win it back.

Great to see he had a great game - MOM - chipped in with a fantastic goal-shame about the hitting the post effort to give us all a bit of relaxation in the second half - as he he said in his post match interview, it will be the start of helping the team in the goal scoring stakes.
He is young enough to become a very good all round midfielder.

Anyway, back to the topic of the thread, it was great to see Hannibal score last night and he could maybe should have had a hat trick. Goals and assists on a more regular basis now need to be added to his great energy, athleticism and ability to keep the ball. If he can do that over the next 4 games and beyond then we have a serious player on our hands!

He’s a player that I think will do well in the premier league.

Similar to foster last time, I just think he will thrive.

He’s got a bit of everything just needs to mature and no when to control his aggression

I think he creates pressure because of how he is, maybe an unpopular opinion but I don't like him - stamping on that guy put me off him.

Hannibal, Esteve, Humphries, Ramsey, Egan-Riley and Trafford!

I’m not as old as some of you lot on here but I’ve never known us to have this amount of young talent in a squad before. While it’s likely we’ll lose a few at the end of the season it’s great to see and it looks like the club has a decent eye for a player.

It’s a risky strategy but bloody exciting at the same time, I can’t wait for the summer transfer window to see who else we bring in! Let the merry go round begin
