A good interview, sensible lad who speaks well, whatever the future, Josh Brownhill has been a key Burnley player.

I don't expect him to be here next season irrespective of which division we find ourselves in. Similarly for James Trafford, too.

Same. I don't know where we find an energetic midfielder that presses really well, can play as a 10 or In a more orthodox central midfield role and gives you a decent goal tally for less than 20 million to replace him though. Unless Ramsey can.

I guess that depends (if we get promoted) whether another Premier League team wants him. I know there has been rumours of interest in the past but nothing has ever materialised. Maybe he becomes a more attractive prospect as a free transfer?

There’s a difference in circumstances tho, Brownhill out of contract Trafford not. If that makes a difference I don’t know, but it would mean a big fee I Trafford left.

He won't a short of suitors on a free transfer as he's a very low risk signing for a bottom half PL club. His record in the Championship is so good that they'd be able to sell him or loan him out in January if he's not up to the standard, plus they get the added bonus of weakening us! Jeff Hendrick managed to get a 4 year deal at Newcastle on a free, and Brownhill is better than him!!

Or one that when he’s plays in a more conventional central midfield role, goes missing not just IN games, but for two or three games in a row. Or one that can’t strike a dead ball anywhere near the opposition goal. Or one who wears a captains armband, and then is inconspicuous when we are up against it and a captain needs to show himself. We will be up against it a lot next year irrespective of the league we are playing in.

That’s just for balance like… I don’t dislike him at all, I just thinks he’s more one dimensional than you think he is. Plays well when in a more advanced role, but seriously limited in any other. Exposed at this level, so at the next level up he becomes invisible.

Having said all that, when he’s in the mood, and in the right position, he’s very effective. £20m I agree with - that’s the fee we’d need to spend to find a like for like, but maybe we have three “like for like” just sat here waiting for their moment. Hannibal, Ramsey as you’ve rightly said (when eventually fit and match ready) and possibly Redmond could fill that role. That’s a decent wage freed up. I’d like him to sign again, but won’t be too upset if he doesn’t.

Sounds quite harsh when I read it back - I don’t mean it to be, I just see an average Championship advanced midfielder who struggles with any other job.

Who does that for us now? Because he certainly doesn’t

He has his limitations at PL level, but he’s certainly much more than an average Championship advance midfielder.

Josh Brownhill is probably the best at what he does in the championship, any team would take him in a flash. Probably a lot of prem clubs too.

If you can't see that, give up football

Very committed pro, there is more to this lad that some of the comments above would have believe.
Grossly unfair to suggest he is only effective as a championship player.
I see similar remarks about scott parker only being productive at this level, its all nonsense talk.
Club has just attained promotion by the incredible work ethic of people like this, credit where its due.
What price the team spirit generated by such a strong group ?
UTC.
