Bury

Post by ElectroClaret » Sat Apr 19, 2025 5:48 pm

Topped the Northwest Counties League Premier Division
and promoted today by beating Burscough at Gigg Lane.

Think it's the eighth tier of English football they're up
to now.

I think Macclesfield are also likely to ascend another tier

The North West Counties have had some ridiculous clubs playing at that level in recent years.

Bury
Macclesfield
FC United

Great for clubs coffers but there's not many promotion spots to fight the likes of them.

They'll be in the NPL West alongside Clitheroe.

Crowd of 9000 at Bury. Shame they were nowhere to be seen when they were a league club.

I'm sure there are ins and outs behind the scenes which made it not possible, but always felt it was a shame Neville isn't there instead of that bizarre "Man United in miniature" he's doing at Salford.

My next door neighbour has just got home from Gig Lane. He's absolutely delighted...
He's part of the Ternent-era fan base.
But that's the happiest He's been watching Bury in 40 years.

They've just beat Burscough in the 8th tier in front of 9,000 fans.

Football eh?
Love it.

Back to having local derbies again with Buxton!
Remember once travelling up from London for the pre-season Town Cup we used to play for - before they got too 'big' for the likes of Buxton,

Robbie Savage coaching Macc. During ManU match, t’other night, it was mentioned they’ve topped 100pts.
Congrats to Bury, onwards and upwards.

I went to watch Accrington Stanley v Burscough when Accrington were en route to winning promotion from level 6 to the Conference (National League), around 2002 or 2003. 1,400 in attendance and Accrington won 4-2 from memory.

Burscough appear to have tumbled down a few levels since then.

One of my best mates is a Bury fan and he travelled back from Spain where he lives to see the game.
I went with him to their last league game at Gigg Lane when they won promotion in 2019 so I’m absolutely delighted to see them doing so well.
They are a stone’s throw from Manchester so the support they’re getting is impressive. Let’s hope they can continue climbing up through the leagues.
Up the Shakers.
