Also coming out of the Derby and turning right down towards Padiham there were the Clifton Hotel, The Lancashire and Yorkshire,
For both of those, you would have turned left down Padiham Road towards town as you came out of the Derby.

The Clifton Hotel was just down from Redruth Street & the Lancs & Yorks was at the gable end of the lone Padiham Road terrace at Barracks Station.

Re the Ribble Club, a blind eye was turned to the after time drinking there, by the Police, until a new either Inspector or Superintendent took up his position in the Station. From his window he had noted the amount of drinking after time and ordered a crackdown on it. He was told as so many known criminals drank there after time, the police could usually know if one of them had involved in an offence, or they could eliminate them, as they knew they were drinking in the Club, at the time of an offence.

Thursday night Disco down the Black Bull was a great night for scouting out the local girls. We used to alternate Thursday nights , pay day, between the Bull and The Prairie as a lot of student nurses went in the Prairie.
Those were my haunts in the early 80s. I used to drive back from working in Liverpool every Thursday.

No mention of the Concord? That place deserves a thread of its own. Murders, sex, stolen goods. Everything and everybody went in there. The list of hard men is still frightening to read. Need someone with a shotgun? Ask for Colin B. The Sykes brothers were tough guys, plus every "name" in Burnley.
The Ribble Club also was some place.
I used to do the windows there ( fan lights ) back in the day. If you remember there was war memorabilia hanging from the ceiling, mainly in the shape of helmets

The Cricketers lowerhouse lane, had my first illegal drink in there aged 16 and promptly threw up outside. Happy days.

Then there was the Red house and the Junction higher up Rosegrove lane, all gone now. Sad to see.

Tim bobbin is one that baffles me. It used to be heaving regularly not just weekends but during the week. The brewery owner is a difficult man to work for and whoever he gets in to run it rarely last. Very strange considering the money spent on a renovation to then shut the door soon after.

Not checked previous 3 pages so may have already been linked but this should help explain the Tim Bobbin story.

What an odd story. Imagine having so much money that you can afford to run a string of decent pubs into the ground through stubbornness.

Humphrey smith, that's the bloke, to describe him as stubborn is the understatement of the day.

I wish as much as anyone else the Tim Bobbin was open.

But you can label the owner 'principled' as much as you can label him stubborn. It's both.
