There's an old couple on our street who start draping England flags from all their windows every St Georges Day. Every year we have to go around and make them take them down but hopefully they've got the message and wont bother this year.

Might drop something in their letter box this week to remind them that we dont allow those kind of flags in our neighbourhood.

I've seen countless posts on various social media platforms today talking about how nobody is allowed to fly an English flag any more... and it's absolute b()llocks

Others have already responded to this, but perhaps you could give some context to this post and explain why this is the only thing that you can think of to post on the day when virtually every town and village in the country will be flying the flag?

Mother was Syrian, died in Palestine, never set foot in England and never slayed a dragon. So good question, why is he England's patron saint.

Feels as simple as the Irish put their flags out and celebrate the day and the English don’t put their flags out because they are too busy on the internet complaining about it (and everything else they think this is wrong with ‘woke’ England)

St Patrick's Day is much more inclusive and brings everyone together whereas St Georges Day seems a little outdated and pointless. With the negative connotations linked to the England flag I can also understand why some local council and police forces try and limit the official celebrations and flag flying

Maybe when an English brewery start giving out a load of free big pint hats and some Morris Dancer bunting, then pubs will bang it up and it'll be just like St Patrick's day.

Without Guinness hammering millions into promotional stuff there is no way Paddy's Day is anyway near as popular as it is

Please don't tell me you really think he slayed a dragon, and can you explain what "its to do with religion " means? Because, like others on here, I am at a loss as to why he is our country's patron saint.

I figure old Georgie slayed a dragon just as Paddy shifted all them snakes.

It's clearly all horsesh1t but if that's the excuse you need to sink a few then go for it...I don't need one.

And yep..as stated earlier, it's another vehicle for the emptyheads to latch onto.

Richard 1 adopted St G when he was on crusade in the Middle East, possibly in a nod to his martial prowess, possibly due to fact George was from those parts. Probably a bit of both and more.

Prior to that St Edmund had been England’s chosen saint.
