Jamie Vardy
Announced he is leaving Leicester at the end of the season. Had a remarkable career from non-league to Premier Champion, sure he will still do a job for a lower league club.

Some saying we should offer him a deal. I'd be very disappointed if we did.
Re: Jamie Vardy
Who are these"some", he's 38 and would have lost the pace that made him so effective. He would offer nothing, are these people the same as the people who wanted a 37yr old overweight Glen Little to return

Re: Jamie Vardy
From viewing his leaving video that he’s released I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t land himself some movie work very soon.

Re: Jamie Vardy
I'm sure we were interested in signing him but not sure to what extent we "missed out on him".Clive 1960 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 12:42 pmWe missed out on him when he was at Fleetwood i believe, had a decent career..
Fleetwood had a massive non-league budget before they were promoted to the FL. They had a budget comparable to League Two / League One and maybe even before they reached the Conference. I'm fuzzy on it but my non-league supporting friends were very clear - they were doing a Jack Walker at that level by outspending other clubs by a large factor.
Anyway, the point is that, even though he did indeed start at non-league, he was playing well below his level to start with because of the financial discrepancy caused by Fleetwood's largesse.
He was then transferred to Leicester - another club who were outspending their competitors factorially.

Re: Jamie Vardy
He moved to Leicester when Eddie Howe was manager here but can't ever recall a link with him at all.dougcollins wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 1:00 pmTurned us down didn't he, always been arsey towards us since.
Now 38, he admitted earlier this season he couldn't sustain it through a match so he'd only be a bit part player wherever he goes.

I don't think Eddie Howe signed anyone for Leicester but apparently Micky Mellon did sign him for Fleetwood.

Yes, and anyone can look these things up online in a second.ChorltonCharlie wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 1:20 pmYou do know he played for Stocksbridge and Halifax before joining Fleetwood?
It's not that his story is 'fake' or that his achievements should be diminished, it's simply to put a bit of context to the idea that we 'missed out on him'.
The point, which I'll state explicitly is that by the time he was performing well at Fleetwood, a number of clubs were courting him and -despite the fact we were a lot higher than Fleetwood in the pyramid- he was potentially already beyond our financial means.

He's worth millions even though his stupid wife tries to give as much as possible to lawyers.
He doesn't need the money and should retire gracefully.

You are bang on regarding the money but if he's still got an appetite/hunger why should he retire from doing something he enjoys. Jamie cureton was a decade older & still having a go.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 4:45 pmHe's worth millions even though his stupid wife tries to give as much as possible to lawyers.

Their chairman has named him as Leicester City's best ever player.

nor Peter Shilton
Re: Jamie Vardy
Can't see him doing a job in the Championship, or any high level to be honest. A huge part of his game was his pace and sharpness - something at 38 he has lost.
Re: Jamie Vardy
He got 7 goals and 3 assists this year in the PL to be fair to him. That's a decent return for a lot of strikers.

Re: Jamie Vardy
I imagine if he’d been in a half decent mid/upper table side he’d have probs scored about 15 with a bagful of assists . Considering how truly dreadful the Leics side is he’s not had a bad season for 38yrs old .

Re: Jamie Vardy
Amazing career, got to like the story. A guy coaching at my local club played with him years ago at Stocksbridge, still stays in touch with a few of them. Famously released by Wednesday at 16, no doubt too small and skinny.

I've never liked Vardy because of his cheating but there's no denying the man's excellent career.
But that the chairman says that is embarrassing.
