The pitch invasion comments are a bit embarrassing.

I completely agree

The fact that some braindead morons are going to cost the club hundreds of thousand pounds is greatly embarrassing.

Them braindead morons are also a big part of the atmosphere. Ban all them and the turf will be even worse than it is now. Every club has a pitch invasion after a promotion, been happening since football began.

Yeah I mean what is wrong with adults running on the pitch, mobile phone in hand hoping for a selfie with a player or abusing other players, damaging property and in general acting a bit of a dick.

The atmosphere? Singing songs about somebody dying, or songs critical about our own players?

Perhaps it does happen, and it's happened at turf moor, but no damage has been caused in those incidents, unlike Monday

If you think it's ok to cause over 100k of damage so be it.

So because they create an atmosphere, they are allowed to cause damage at a cost of £100k to the club?

Going on the pitch is selfish and stupid, but they probably didn't cause hundreds of thousands of pounds of damage and trying to ban them would be mental.

I think people have to understand that the club has to be seen to do everything it can to deter and condem a pitch invasion and subsequently try to punish those involved, because ultimately, if it recurres, the punishments from the league will increase in severity. We could move from expensive fines to seats being temporarily closed off or hugely damaging points deductions. It's easy for us to call it "spontaneous exuberance" and "atmosphere", but the league won't put up with it unfortunately and the club have to be seen to be doing what they can.

It is possible to be a 'big part of the atmosphere' and not run on the pitch and behave like a k*bhead

Apart from a couple of fans goading Sheffield utd players most people just celebrated with the players didn't they?

We have this debate almost every year.

Older fans who ran on the pitch at Preston, York, Scunthorpe, Charlton and even Turf Moor for the Orient or Wrexham game, slag the younger generations off for carrying on a tradition.

The thing for me about the pitch invasion is that it delayed, significantly, the on-field celebrations by the players and the manager and his staff. By the time they did come back the moment, to a certain extent, had gone.

If seeing a few dozen "braindead morons" acting out upsets or embarasses you then I'd suggest that watching pro football isn't really for you.

Btw...without evidence to the contrary I'm suggesting the ""hundreds of thousands" figure is probably horsesh1t.

Club have put out a statement about banning people who went on the pitch and recovering their mythical hundreds of thousands of pounds from them. Let's see how that goes.

The actions of adults feeling the need to run on a pitch would never ruin my day, done it myself at York (when we actually won the league) and also at Scunthorpe (mainly due to being in their end and wanting to join our fans) but running on the pitch with 2 games to go and in 2nd place just seems a bit odd. Had that been the last game of the season on Monday it would be expected some would go on.

Everybody who was at MIddlesbrough 2 year ago managed to enjoy their night without running on the pitch

I'm sure those that ran on loved it to be fair.

I used to do it when I was a kid around 99-2001, loved it.

I'd probably not do it now unless it was a last game, last minute goal type job

As moronic as it was, I expect we'll see a few more pitch invasions over the next few weeks with the play offs on the horizon.

There's bound to be a few "incidents" too, so I'd be amazed if our club is singled out for punishment.

The difference being that no damage was done on those occasions, nor were opposition players confronted. It also wasn't an offence in those days, apart from probably the Charlton game.

Exactly this. It only needs somebody upstairs to decide to make an example of us and we'll be screwed by having points deducted. I was at York and all the other places and I admit I did go onto the pitch, but after the initial "dash was over" and the players had left the field, but we have to accept times have changed and it's not an acceptable part of the game in the eyes of the leagues and we really don't want to be the ones hung out to dry as a deterrent to anyone else.

It’s not on if it’s costing the club money though is it? Whether it’s hundreds of thousands or tens of thousands isn’t really the issue.

We won’t get a points deduction, it’s only being investigated because of Wilder’s comments.

I can guarantee there will be worse to come over the next few weeks at other clubs, so unless you believe that the whole of football just has it in for little old Burnley, then the idea of the authorities "making an example" of us seems wide of the mark.

You are may be quite right, and Im sure that as you appear to condone that when you get the bill for the damage it caused and the fine from the FA you will agree that it was quite in order and pay it.

True. However I suspect the nature of the investigation will be in response to Wilder’s comments about the club failing to protect the players. I’m not sure how true this is as all the footage I’ve see shows at least one security person with each Sheff Utd player. Chowdary even tries to escape his ‘protection’ and walks away from the tunnel so I’m not sure how much of a case there is to answer. Wilder may have been complimentary about us after the match but he knew what he was doing when he made the comments about the pitch invasion.

You are may be quite right, and Im sure that as you appear to condone that when you get the bill for the damage it caused and the fine from the FA you will agree that it was quite in order and pay it.
He'll have to sell his firestick! :D

I'm not sure what more the club can do when several hundred chavs and their dads are determined to go on the pitch.

The stewards were just completely outnumbered.

The difference being that no damage was done on those occasions, nor were opposition players confronted. It also wasn't an offence in those days, apart from probably the Charlton game.
It's always been forbidden to enter the playing surface. They had massive fences to stop supporters going on.

As for damage, the full fence behind the goal collapsed at York with so many climbing over.

Nobody wants players confronting.

Surely promotion to the PL is worthy of a pitch invasion.

Or is it only allowed if you're at the bottom of the football pyramid?

I'd say there are few circumstances it's okay but this is one of them.

It will be the aggression a few spectators meted out to the Sheffield players that will get us into trouble and result in a heavy fine I imagine.

Explains everything :D

He claims to have watched it on a firestick despite it being live on ITV
Wasn't aware live TV was still a thing. So we were on instead of Emmerdale? Joke really
