Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
I think it's only been a criminal offence since 1991. But has really only been enforced stringently in the last 3 or 4 years.
I think Row x has a point though. Despite it being an offence at York, home to Wrexham, Scunthorpe, I don't think the authorities really cared. But now, it is clear that it is not allowed, and fans are expected to not do it. Times have changed, and behaviour should reflect this.
Lots of people seem to be making excuses for what is downright unacceptable behaviour

I'm sure Mr Shouty made it loud and clear that pitch encroachment is illegal.

Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
I think some people are completely missing the point.
We all know it’s “wrong” to invade the pitch in celebration but agree it will happen when events such as promotion/champions occur.
The issue really isn’t the invasion, it’s the behaviour of those towards the opposition players & staff, along with the damage caused to expensive equipment.
If those 2 issues hadn’t happened, then yes the club would still have put out a statement today “don’t enter the pitch” but the tone would have been completely different, with it being without the “we will find you and make you pay” element

I knew it was gonna happen and i'm not on the understanding that they are all 'brain-dead morons'....
But football has changed , the world has changed ... social media exists and people take it as an opportunity to cause trouble to have their moment and show off etc... so it's a problem for the club now
so if you ran on the pitch when we stayed up against Plymouth .... it's now not popular or viable for the club in 2025.... totally different now
Anyone trying to justify it in my opinion have an out of date view point

Pitch invasions after promotion have been part of English football culture forever, banning people for doing so just shows the Americans still don’t quite get it yet.

What is there to "get" about criminal damage, costing the club thousands, and confronting opposition players?
I don't "get" that either.

The club statement says they'll be issuing stadium bans to anyone they can identify
I might be able to get a seat swap and better view for next season after all!

Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
That's correct but every single one of them will also be publicly condemned by the club in question as it will be required due to the FA investigations.
Burnley football club are no different to any other club that finds themselves in the same situation.
Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
The FA are coming down heavily on pitch Invasions due to what happened at the City ground a few years back when Forest played Sheffield United, when the forest fan headbutted Billy Sharp.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 11:13 amI think it's only been a criminal offence since 1991. Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
Hence the hundreds of thousands of pounds’ quote. However, it looks like the size of the fine is based on the league you’re in so hopefully we’d be looking at around £50k.Corway wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 1:32 pmCouple of examples

Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
The last time I went on the pitch was either Orient or Wrexham. I had grown out of it by my early to mid twenties.
It would be very hypocritical and self righteous of me to come on here and act all virtuous when some of our fans decided to run on the pitch and celebrate with our team after winning a hard fought promotion race.
What's going to be next, not being allowed to stand up and cheer after scoring a goal? Year on year this great game becomes more sterile and sanitised.
Rather than blaming the fans the club could have prevented the invasion by issuing a statement prior to the game stating that anyone who entered the pitch would receive a 3 year banning order without exception. I am pretty sure that would have prevented most fans going on the pitch.

Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
I do wonder if this fairly heavy handed approach is more about stopping it happening against Millwall. Millwall won't just watch from the stands and the police will already know who is travelling especially if the game has something on it for them. I would expect a very large police presence.
Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
From where I was on the Longside I could see the LED signs near the goalposts being clambered over pushed over and trodden on, Who would have been at fault if one of the intruders had been electrocuted by the damaged equipment?
I’m pleased that the club are taking steps to identify the those who seem incapable of understanding protocol within the stadium, times have changed, if you don’t like it, don’t bother coming, you won’t be missed.

Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
Not that I agree with pitch invasions but from my view on TV it appeared that the actual number of invaders was relatively small and the vast majority of those just wanted to celebrate our promotion
What I didn’t see ( on tv) was any attempt by the stewards to (a) stop the invasion or (b) clear the pitch after the invasion. So either the club were caught off guard or they were prepared to allow a limited number on the pitch. Fortunately no irate opposition fans decided to invade which could have caused major trouble. Millwall fans will not be so accommodating whatever the score next week

Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
I've got sympathy with the stewards to be fair. Realistically they're only there for show and a deterrent. I wouldn't be taking on potentially coked up idiots coming on to the pitch. If you put a hand on a kid to stop them, their parents will be after suing you for assault. It's the world we live in.FCBurnley wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 2:21 pmNot that I agree with pitch invasions but from my view on TV it appeared that the actual number of invaders was relatively small and the vast majority of those just wanted to celebrate our promotion

The problem with pitch invasions is that in the world we now live in, someone, probably a player is going to hurt!
If you type into a Google search ‘football player assaulted by fan’ you will quickly see a fairly long list of recent examples.
I do appreciate that most fans will have good intentions, but it only takes one pillock to cause a major problem and this can’t be controlled, hence no pitch invasions!

Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
This thread has understandably focussed mainly on one key issue (pitch invasion, damage, antisocial behaviour) but just going back to the beginning, this is another example of lots of questions having been fielded, with several seemingly having been met with a really dismissive and patronising tone.
Indeed, there were many questions provided (if you read the follow up questions collated by Natalie Bromley) where the question actuslly asked, isn’t remotely answered at all.
What I would be keen to see is the follow-up conversation that took place between the club and FAB.
Take the following scenario, for example…. Our PURPLE KIT…. then read the response by the club. I would imagine the vast, vast, vast, majority of Burnley fans, would be quite shocked and concerned by the response given and would surely, surely follow that up?
We don’t play in purple and we all have a very good idea of what our claret looks like!!!!

It’s the hysterical delivery of his totally random (highlighted text ) “ 100’000’s fine” ( surely we won’t get hit with that much ?) building up with giddy mummsy zeal to “ action against 800-1000 fans “ then frothing to a breathless moneyshot “ don’t you dare go on the pitch at the Millwall game or else !” Even for the tearful awkwardness of a FAB meeting ,this takes the biscuit .
Of course pitch invasions are bloody daft , BUT a home, winner takes all type promo game to the prem certainly fires the emotions you’d think even the resident curmudgeons could relate to .

The example chosen isn't the best though, our shirts have been different shades of claret for the 40 years I've been watching Burnley. The "purple" as some refer to it, isn't any wilder than we've seen before.Clowbridge89 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 5:35 pmThey’re on the Clarets Trust Instagram post.

That’s not the point: they’re looking for a Claret that ‘represents us as a club and one we can own’
ie, that’s probably the pinky purple shade that we’re currently seeing

Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
Is that a problem?
Re: FAB meeting last night, notes
Whilst the FAB gives a voice to lots of minority’s within the fan base, it’s nowhere even close to being representative of the average match going fan.
