Dara O’Shea
I couldn’t be more delighted for him after how he behaved to get his move. Enjoy the Championship and your quickly growing reputation as a player who gets relegated

Sounds like he was desperate to get away as with some of the others. Not looked great for them when I’ve seen him. Not sure Ipswich will come back up either.

Agents and wanting to play at the highest level, ive no major issue with it, we are all different.Penwortham_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 4:59 pmI couldn’t be more delighted for him after how he behaved to get his move. his decision has likely netted him a million quid, I'm sure he's not remotely bothered

Re: Dara O’Shea
He’s another who was crap for us. Wasn’t good enough for West Brom in the premier league. Not good enough for us in the premier league. And not good enough for Ipswich in the premier league. Getting what we did for him and seeing CJ play next to Esteve had been a blessing in disguise.

I actually thought he was okay for us in the last two thirds of the season, playing in a badly managed team.
What exactly is he supposed to have done?

Re: Dara O’Shea
Suggestion is he squared up to Matt Williams when we had rejected a few bids for him in the summer, as he was trying to push for a move (came from Williams himself), and generally behaved poorly.

He's a good player!......hasn't looked out of place in the Premier either.
I don't know anything about "how" he left.

Re: Dara O’Shea
Was a very good player for us. Can’t remember many goals from corners since he left.
I’d take any rumours about his behaviour with a pinch of salt- probably desperate to get away from the environment Kompany had built last season.

Re: Dara O’Shea
Wow, I’ve not heard that one before. That does put him in a very different light if true.

Re: Dara O’Shea
He wasn't here long enough to grow any connection with the fans, and it was a season long struggle in a system that made fools of our defence and keeper. I have no issue with him pushing for a move, and we made a profit..
The silver lining is his departure opened the door for CJ, we should be grateful.

Looked over the moon when he scored at Luton, perhaps he knew he was off soon? Anyways he was in my view 'ok' nothing more. CJ and Esteve far better players. (I understand we are in the Championship, and both may not be here in August, but we move on).

He certainly wasn’t a ‘very good player’ for us. Average at best. As above thankfully opened the way for Egan-Reilly.

Re: Dara O’Shea
I said at the time it was an almost certainly daft move. He's young and he's clearly a very good player, but choosing to jump from one relegation basket case to what was (at the time) almost certainly another, seemed silly in terms of his confidence and development. He'd have been miles better staying with us and that's not hindsight because I did say it at the time. Obviously the money will have been so much better, but in the longer term.....mmmm.

You must have a very low bar if he was “very good”.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 5:47 pmWas a very good player for us. Can’t remember many goals from corners since he left.

You also say we haven’t scored many from corners with him out of the side, but I would also take note that we haven’t conceded many from corners as we did with him in the side either.

Well, he could have tried some proper defending instead of virtually specialising in getting the wrong side of his man.

Re: Dara O’Shea
Regardless of the ‘exact’ way he left, when Parker refers to players refusing to play just 12 hours before a game (Sunderland), it has to mean him. Of the starters anyway.
So I’m having a chuckle tonight.

He did try. He wasn't good enough in the end but never stood a chance due to poor management.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 7:58 pmWell, he could have tried some proper defending instead of virtually specialising in getting the wrong side of his man.

Re: Dara O’Shea
So why did Esteve do so much better in the same team, and manager?
Truth is Dara O'Shea is Championship quality, nothing more... and that is where he's heading.

Esteve is much better than O'Shea. The management last season was poor. Both are true.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 8:05 pmSo why did Esteve do so much better in the same team, and manager?

Re: Dara O’Shea
I can't feel sorry for him-showed his true colours. However under Parker I think he would have developed into a good CH-we cerainly would have scored more from corners with him . In fact he was the only player for us ( v Luton) to score from a corner. On a positive,i hs departure provided the opportunity for CJ

Re: Dara O’Shea
I never warmed to O'Shea on the football field in our most recent Premier League season. He seemed to fall asleep defensively too many times. Probably best suited to the level of football of a mid table Championship team.

thought he was a great player for us. I didn’t think we’d ever have a better defender than Caldwell, we have had about 10. Does that mean Caldwell was awful?

Re: Dara O’Shea
O'Shea is the classic example of a player who is a bit short of Premier League standard, but looks like he has all the attributes when he plays a league below. He was also one of the few who showed any kind of leadership last season. I've no idea about if / how he forced his move last Summer, but the consensus at the time was that he was a big loss for us.

No read it again, the poster said it came from Matt Williams himself. Not that someone told the poster, the info came from Matt Williams directly was the initial assertion. I don't know the veracity of the comment, as I didn't hear it.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 11:07 pmSorry it must be 100% true then if a poster heard it.

In any event, I've heard and seen enough to conclude that he isn't, nor will he be missed. Can see him going Celtic this summer.
Have a nice night. Had a top day at QPR today, don't want to fall asleep in a row with a Claret.
