Same. Came across as a great guy too.

Low-key in love with him as the kids possibly say.
Very shy apparently

I had the pleasure of getting to chat with Scotty just over a month ago, on Mother's Day.
My daughter and I are Yorkshire Clarets - we live in Huddersfield and me, my wife and daughter headed to a little wine bar on the outskirts of the town for a late-afternoon drink. As we were shown to our table I realised there was a very familiar face sitting at the next table.
It was Scotty, with his wife and daughters, and they'd been having some lunch there for Mother's Day. I believe I'd probably read on here at some point that he had a house in Huddersfield still when he played for us.

I told my Mrs I'd leave him in peace with his family and maybe try and catch him as he left just to say Hi.
However, a while later she was walking past their table so whispered that there were 2 Burnley fans on the next table, who didn't want to disturb him, but would love a quick chat when he left. His youngest asked her Mum at that point who Burnley were, and she said "they were the team that made Daddy famous"!

Sure enough, later on as they prepared to leave, Scotty made his way over to us, hand outstretched, and stopped for a few minutes to chat. We were reminiscing about some of the goals he scored - QPR at home, Blackburn away, and he was saying he's still in touch with a lot of former team-mates, and he was asking if I thought we were going up at that point.
I told him he looked more like 26 than 36 and fit as a fiddle, and was asking him how long he planned to carry on playing, noting at that point he'd just re-joined Falkirk and was scoring goals for fun. He told me that he'd like to carry on playing until he's 40, after adding that he'd originally told his girls that he might quit when he got to 100 career goals. However, he said as he'd just made it to 100 goals, that was a bit early now so that plan was out the window!
He did ask me what a Burnley fan was doing in Huddersfield but I told him I've been 'crossing the border' for home matches for the past 45 years!

When we discussed the goal he scored at Ewood, he said he'd actually met up with Michael Duff at a nearby restaurant a week or two before he was sacked. He said they'd met in the car park, and Scotty had joked with him that they should run through the car park and into the restaurant hand-in-hand to replicate the goal celebration!

He seemed to be a lovely humble fella, just enjoying being out with his family, and it made our day to get to speak to him for a few minutes.

Really pleased to see that Falkirk have won the title this evening, so hopefully all being well he'll be getting to play at Ibrox again next season.

Great story and great result for Falkirk. My grandson met him at his rented house in Glasgow when starting to play playing for Rangers. He’d been to the Turf with me and seen him play there and at Ibrox in friendlies. Like you found he was amazed to see a Burnley supporter and catted and posed for a selfie. Lovely man and great player.

Genuinely one of my favourite players of the past 10 years+, so all the more pleasing to get the chance to meet him and have a chat.

I kicked myself afterwards for just remembering goals he scored in the promotions, and not mentioning the great goal he scored against Chelsea in the season-opener in 2014 (a game which even the Mrs was at Turf Moor for on one of her infrequent visits), but I was mildly starstruck!

Me too. we let him go too soon.
On the subject of nice players I took several grandsons to see a pre season friendly at Deepdale. Sat behind the goals and in the practice a ball zinged over the bar and hit a young girl full in the face. She was in tears. The culprit I didn’t recognise climbed Ito the stand to apologise most profusely and at the end of the game returned with Burnley gear and gave her his top. He posed for selfies with the crowd. Turned out to be new signing Nick Pope and not long after he made the England squad.

Nice to see Scott still having a career in Scotland but his time was up at Burnley never really at the required level for Premier league

Great night for Scott last night. After match interview very moving. Tried to get ticket but sold out, for obvious reasons. Watched on box.

He'll always be a Claret!

We didn’t actually let him go, he opted to when his contract came to an end.

Gave us five years and owed us absolutely nothing when he left.

Imagine telling him what he'd end up doing when he was carrying his kit away from Huddersfield after being released :o

Bob Lord once said that most footballers he’d come across couldn’t have run a fish & chip shop.

His has been a career following dreams.

Established in the prem with us and made his name. International football with Canada and a brief time playing with his Claret pal at Charlotte. His move from us to GRangers saw him win Rangerd only title and regular, very successful, Euro football. Then choosing to return where it all began, to help get his home team back in the Scottish Prem.

I remarkable CV and series of adventures. A credit to all his clubs.

I will be able to watch him, very occasionally, next season. Often clashes with Burnley but early on and odd matches will be ok.

Met a Rangers fan whilst watching the FA Cup Final last week whilst on a Greek island. Scotty Arfield was the obvious topic of conversation and it was interesting to hear how much respect and affection the Rangers fan had for him. He went so far as to say that even Celtic fans couldn’t really bring themselves to dislike Scotty. A top man.

I've said this a number of times, but one of the things that has helped Burnley be so successful over the last 20 years or so, as Dyche regularly said, is the number of players with a good moral compass, and desire to improve.

Jay, Ashley Westwood, Jack Cork, Scott Arfield, Michael Duff, Steven Caldwell, Ade Akinbiyi, Tarky, Ben Mee, Trippier, Michael Kightly, Joe Worrall, Nathan Redmond, Dwight McNeill etc etc - the list goes on. When you hear the behaviour of groups of players at clubs, as told on podcasts like Undr The Cosh, or I had trials once - shows a marked difference in the types of characters, in my mind anyway. Claret tinted glasses? Or a real competitive advantage? Who knows.

A strange take. The first time we went up he looked one of the only ones that could cut it at that level.
