What's 'Toegate'?
It was an episode that started with Tarkowski wanting to leave at the start of his last season in his contract with ourselves. Here we had Tarks, a defender who generally never missed a minute of a season through injury, suddenly developing a "toe injury" which meant he was not available for several games at the start of that season. He made a miraculous recovery and I think played virtually every game that season. Whilst the uncertainty over his supposed injury and a potential move away continued, this message board came up with the caption TOEGATE

Tarky gave everything for Burnley every time he played (same at Everton) some of it wasn’t always pretty but he wasn’t scared of throwing himself at anything he may not a RR but he’s a bloody good defender

Football in the Premier League is ruthless and when you look that Kompany took over a relegated team who had just lost Mee, Tarkowski and Collins and was going into the next season with a defence of Roberts, Taylor, Thomas (went to Bristol Rovers) and Lowton (went to Huddersfield) you can maybe see what a massive task he had ahead of him.

Like in other positions Kompany needed to buy a lot of players to fill the squad out and therefore had to look for promising cheap players or loans. If you look at where he started above and what he left behind when he left then for a net spend of around £10m he's done pretty well.

So for a net spend of around £10 Kompany left behind Esteve, Beyer, Ekdal, Decroix and Egan-Riley (plus Roberts who was already there) after inheriting Roberts, Taylor, Thomas and Lowton

Al Dakhil was one for the future like Egan-Riley and was you can you hardly say Kompany ruined him when Stuttgart was willing to pay £6m which was over a million more than we paid.

Parker obviously made the decision he would rather cash in on the promising young player and use the money to get an experienced pro like Worral which based on the profile of our defence seemed like the right thing to do to me but if you are unhappy about us letting Al Dakhil go as a commodity then its Parker who sold him on and not VK
I'm not unhappy we sold him, we needed to sell last summer. I just don't think he was treated particularly well by VK in the PL season. It's interesting that he's barely kicked a ball for Stuttgart this season though (only 7 first team apps). Maybe he wasn't as good as we thought. Looking back, there were a lot of players we thought looked very good in the Championship under VK, who haven't pushed on since.

Think the same can be said about Zarourry, Benson, Vitinho. Great one season, but way off PL requirements

Agreed. Vitinho is someone who highlights the difference between the PL and the Championship. He started this season like he was going to rip the league apart!! He looked like a world beater. He was pretty dreadful in the PL though.

I wondered at that but according to Transfermarket it's mainly been down to various injuries.

That's my fear for players like Anthony, CJER, Lucas Pires and Hannibal next season.
