I mean which seems more likely Rovers fans sitting on a bar changing 'Till I play the wild Rover' to 'Till we play Burnley B*stards no never no more' or Burnley fans changing it to 'Till we play Blackburn Rovers no never no more'.
I mean what variant of 'Till I play the Wild Rover no never no more' would fit a Blackburn song. It makes no sense.
Anymore than changing a song about two cathedrals and a statue outside John Lewis' in Liverpool would originate as a Burnley song.

Play off finals we visited a bar after the match a stone throwaway from Wembley (don’t know the name) absolutely full of Clarets, and there was a singer/pianist trying to do his spot for the night, and he started singing Let It Be, wow totally unrehearsed and impromptu, around 30 Burnley fans stood up and sang it with him replacing Let It Be with Burnley. It sounded that good the singer did the same and congratulated us on the win.

I was going to suggest Elvis, “I can’t help falling in love with you”. We used to sing this a lot, followed by a chant of “Burnley”
However, the “Let it Be” is brilliant!

Re: A Turf Moor anthem needed- ideas?
You can’t force this kind of thing. It has to be natural. When you look at the songs people associate with “club anthem”, the song was popular at the time it started, or the artist is local singing about the area. Most of the time, the fans still sing the original lyrics as well. Times Like These is a decent pre-match song, but it’s not the club anthem because fans don’t sing along to it. We also need to remember that music has changed a lot from when clubs adopted hits (which would have grown organically). There’s lots of great new music out there, but most of it isn’t the dross that is pushed by mainstream media and so isn’t that well known. Go with older songs and you’re in danger of missing the main target audience that are likely to create atmosphere.
I’d say forget the idea of a club anthem, we have No Nay Never which works in its own way. What would be great to see is a Burnley ultra type group try and come together. It just needs a few like minded people to come up with a name and start pushing it on social media. Pick a pub that on matchdays isn’t that busy, and use as a meeting place (has to start as a quiet pub so everyone there is on the same wavelength). Write new songs (not plagiarising other teams efforts) and get them going week in, week out in the pub. The more people that turn up, the more chance those songs have of being popular on a matchday. Take it from there, build up the group and when there’s enough start going in the stand 30 minutes before kick off and building the atmosphere. It can work, just needs a few passionate people to push it and persevere through the early days.

Re: A Turf Moor anthem needed- ideas?
Chuck Wood - 7 days too long - only the first verse and only change one word (baby to BURNLEY) which everyone in the ground shouts just the one word.
First time I called you girl
They say you wasn't home
Then second time I tried it
They say you won't be left alone
We have a lot of quarrels yes we have
Like all lovers do
I'm ready to make up
It's all of left to you now
Seven Days Too Long without you baby
Come on back to me now
First time I called you girl
They say you wasn't home
Then second time I tried it
They say you won't be left alone
We have a lot of quarrels yes we have
Like all lovers do
I'm ready to make up

Agree, everyone knows Let it be.Maybe just tweak the words to give it more relevance to us.
A quick effort could be something like this:
A minute before kick off like at Liverpool/Forest
(First 6 lines sung with backing music)
When I find myself in times of trouble, Claret memories come to me
Speaking words of wisdom, Burnley
And in our hour of darkness,Thoughts of Grewcock,Britton comfort me
Speaking words of wisdom, Burnley
Burnley,Burnley, Burnley,Burnley
Whisper words of wisdom, Burnley
(Then music. Off and crowd repeat)
Burnley,Burnley, Burnley,Burnley
Whisper words of wisdom, Burnley

Brilliant. Maybe change 'Mother Mary' for Harry Potts also. Otherwise stick with the lyric.ClaretAL wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 2:19 amPlay off finals we visited a bar after the match a stone throwaway from Wembley (don’t know the name) absolutely full of Clarets, and there was a singer/pianist trying to do his spot for the night, and he started singing Let It Be, wow totally unrehearsed and impromptu, around 30 Burnley fans stood up and sang it with him replacing Let It Be with Burnley. Re: A Turf Moor anthem needed- ideas?
The more I think about it, the chorus of Times Like These is the best suggestion in my opinion. Only four lines long, simple lyrics, can be sung slow or fast. Poignant lyrics which importantly don't need to be changed. Lends itself to be sung or chanted.
Ideally it'd be a local band but for some reason the fact Foo Fighters aren't close to home makes it feel easier to make it our own, in the words of Louis Walsh.
For similar reasons, Let It Be just doesn't feel right whatsoever. It's a song synonymous with a Liverpool band and Liverpool.

(London Calling the Clash)...
Turf Moor calling to the far away teams
We're Burnley fc and we follow our dreams.
Turf Moor calling, to the wider world
Come and support us, you boys and girls
Turf Moor calling at the top of the dial
And after all this won't you give me a smile
Turf Moor calling...
Turf Moor calling...
I never felt so much alive, alive, alive...
Possibly substitute Burnley for Turf Moor?

Burnley have been singing it from at least the 1950s, if not before. Blackburn Rovers fans maybe started singing it in the 1980s or thereabouts.

He ain't Heavy. Although a cover is most closely associated with the Hollies who had a massive hit with it and, at the time, had 3 local musicians in Bobby Elliot (from Burnley), Tony Hicks (from Nelson) and Bernie Calvert (from Brierfield and living in Foulridge at the time).

Re: A Turf Moor anthem needed- ideas?
Me too.
Quite surprised at the suggestions on here. It needs to be an old, classic tune like Let it Be that everyone knows, pretty simple lyrics that talk.
Although words that aren’t “Burnley” can’t be the original lyrics. They would need changing too.

Not knocking your effort, I’m no lyricist, but think there’s too much of the original song in that.giveusaB wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 8:59 amAgree, everyone knows Let it be.Maybe just tweak the words to give it more relevance to us.

I like the Burnley, Burnley part, works well, but all the other lyrics would need updating to be more relevant in my view e.g. “Come on you Burnley Aces, Burnley, Burnley”. (Told you I was no lyricist!)

"Let It Be" needs 'Burnley' to be three syllables and I think an anthem where the team name is mispronounced just isn't a good anthem.

Re: A Turf Moor anthem needed- ideas?
"Let It Be" needs 'Burnley' which is two syllables to sound like 'Bur Na Lee' which is three. It's okay for some songs in my opinion but to pronounce the club name wrong in an anthem is just weird.

Quite as good as i should have
Maybe i didn’t love you
Quite as often as i could have
Little things i should of said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
Maybe i didn’t hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
And i guess i never told you
I’m so happy that your mine
If i make you feel second best
Burnley, I’m so sorry i was blind
You were always on my mind

Tell me
Tell me that your sweet love hasn’t died
Give me

I like both Let It Be & the Air That I Breathe but I heard this t'other day on Heartbeat and you can't beat Gerry for an anthem.
The song is a twee love song from the 50s but can be given a gospel feel.
Here's the original:https://youtu.be/NyXRd1KXdqs?si=mDhpEZ0DYyBwwNV_
I've come up with this but there are better wordsmiths on here.
Walk hand in hand with me
Thru all eternity
We follow Burnley (needs to be Bur-urn-ley or the usual Burn-er-lee)
Give me your hand
Our plays a symphony
Of perfect harmony
when followers as we
Walk hand in hand
Walk hand in hand with me
This is our destiny
No greater love could be
To follow Burnley ( see above) and it needs dragging out for a climax.

An oldie like You’ll never walk alone that has the right sentiments is Keep right on to the end of the road
It is used by Birmingham City I believe.
The chorus is all that’s needed
Keep right on to the end of the road
Keep right on to the end
Though the way be long, let your heart be strong
Keep right on 'round the bend
If you're tired and weary, still journey on
'Til you come to your happy abode
Where all your love and your dreaming of
Will be there at the end of the road.

Re: A Turf Moor anthem needed- ideas?
The beat needs to be slow to get the crowd singing along, Dirty old town by the Pogues would be apt.
Re: A Turf Moor anthem needed- ideas?
There are a lot of middle aged to elderly men in this thread telling people what songs they like and what might have previously got the crowd going decades prior, but not necessarily will fit the bill nowadays.
As much as I like some of these suggestions, they are catering for a particular demographic and it needs to be something that all demographics can get behind.
So very unlikely that something pre 1950 or Keef and Mick recalling the time they put LSD squares on their eyeballs through the medium of song is going to fit the bill.
