Not sure why it is a provisional 12 months, maybe that is the same for all new ones.

absolutely brilliant - and another poke in the eye to all the naysayers who want to be down on just about everything the club decides to do.

Re: Cat 1 academy
Great news, well done to those involved, should be very handy.
Intriguing how despite a few in the EFL most are either a EPL club or a yo yo club, probably due to the cost. Us and Leeds are coming back as Cat 1 and Sheff Utd are hoping to join us in both regards soon (though their new site in Dore on the old HSBC premises where the Academy will relocate to is currently not a patch on Gawthorpe).
It just feels vital if we are to remain at the top table in English football.

I thought they might have an article on Birmingham getting cat 1 a few days before to compare, but I can't see one.aggi wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 10:25 amArticle here

Let's hope we can improve on the rating of 54th out of 86 for productivity.

We are in the elite group next season so that will vastly improve - I'm so, so pleased with this news.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 11:06 amLet's hope we can improve on the rating of 54th out of 86 for productivity.

I suspect we will. We might not produce many Burnley first team players if we continue around Premier League/top end of Championship but it looks like we're starting to get better at carrying players through who have successful careers at other clubs.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 11:06 amLet's hope we can improve on the rating of 54th out of 86 for productivity.
Saying that, not sure where the cut-off for players is, whether players like McNeil or Bobby Thomas don't count as they were too old when they joined us.

A lot of things beyond me to be honest in terms of retaining, signing, keeping young players and the monetary value of them.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 11:33 amThis sounds like great news. What does being in the elite group mean for us?
But in terms of the public side of it, we will now play in PL 2 (under-21s) and the U18 Premier League which included 26 clubs this season as below. Also the teams younger than that will have a better games programme too.
Arsenal
Aston Villa
Blackburn
Brighton
Chelsea
Crystal Palace
Derby
Everton
Fulham
Leeds
Leicester
Liverpool
Manchester City
Manchester United
Middlesbrough
Newcastle
Norwich
Nottingham Forest
Reading
Southampton
Stoke
Sunderland
Tottenham
West Brom
West Ham
Wolves

Re: Cat 1 academy
Been waiting for the expected arrival, but it's still great news for the club.
I hope we've learned the lessons from the mistakes last time. You take your eye off the ball in this and it is gone.
Well done to those who turned it around.

Re: Cat 1 academy
EXCELLENT news to log on to. When the Birmingham news broke I was a bit concerned.
Fantastic achievement, although when you look at that list Tony has posted it does underline that we’re playing catch-up a bit. Hopefully the last three years has been spent building very solid foundations.
Well done to the club and staff that have made this happen. Great end to the season.

Not really. It was used as another stick to beat the ownership with at the time.

Re: Cat 1 academy
I think if we are fair about this we have to give credit where credit is due. Losing Cat 1 was definitely another device to have a pop at the Ownership structure. We don't have to agree with everything they get up to, but it's worth remembering that whatever ultimate aspirations they have for the club, they will only be realised if we are successfulgandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 2:11 pmNot really. Re: Cat 1 academy
Exactly my thoughts Tony.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 2:12 pmIt was strange because I couldn't find any other reference to it other than directly from Birmingham. That's been similar with us though, I thought the Premier League might have announced it.
Re: Cat 1 academy
They were rightly criticised. And it's taken too long to get the cat 1 back. But at least we've got there and that deserves credit as well.Papabendi wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 2:20 pmI think if we are fair about this we have to give credit where credit is due. Because it was fair, poor management lost us the Cat 1 status in the first place.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 2:11 pmNot really. It was used as another stick to beat the ownership with at the time.
I'm happy they've put it right but surely you're not suggesting that as fans we can't criticise the running of the club when somthing goes wrong? Truly bizarre.

Re: Cat 1 academy
At the bottom of the Training Ground Guru article it says we're 54th from 97 in a ranking of academies. Does anyone know what that's based on?

Re: Cat 1 academy
I think it's their productivity rankings.
Basically how many first team minutes players from the academy have had (not necessarily for the team where they came through). Higher weighting for playing at a higher level.
