Shirt colour for next season

Post by Superjohnnyfrancis » Mon May 12, 2025 11:46 am

Are the Americans going to let us have our traditional colours back or are we the purple potions from now on?

Despite what women and interior designers will have you believe, there are actually only 12 colours.

Let's hope we're back in the proper colour next season.

Those purple abominations have been on sale all year long. It's not hard to find a colour of claret surely.

What do you class as the traditional colours?

There's a thread on here showing all the different shades/colours we've had over the years... even with non American owners

I saw something on instagram about the colour of our shirts recently and it caused me to google the “what is the colour claret”?

Claret colour is a dark red with a distinctive trace of purple” was the answer Google gave me. It came from claret wine which is actually dark purple when you look it up.

Not sure of the point of me saying this other than I was surprised what a broad spectrum of colours classify as claret.

Could you link me to that? Would be really interested in seeing it.

I agree for what it’s worth, the shades seem to change every year. They’ll always appeal to different fans personal tastes.

My gut instinct is that because Villa and West Ham have similar colours to us, the powers that be are moving away from those traditional claret colours to try and make our branding more unique.

I think you could be spot on there, along with that font they are using now in quite a lot of places (the buses for the promotion parade had it on the side).

I'd say on a football messageboard called Up The Clarets, discussing as to whether the Clarets will play in claret is pretty a-okay.

We had a purple shirt in 1991/92 and an awful lot of Burnley fans still cream themselves over it. No American owners then.

Since we moved to changing the shirts every year I don't think the claret shade has been the same two years running. And again, largely under UK owners.

If it's another purple effort this time round I'd be blaming Castore. For the record, they're also not American.

I suspect that it wasn’t purely by chance that the players and Parker were given replicas of the 93-95 home shirt and the 97/98 away kits. I think it’s a fair bet that next season’s kits will be based on these - and that home shirt is quite purple.

It’s just another way to have a dig at the owners.

Calling them “The Americans” is a big giveaway as to the posters intention.

I would rather we had unique colours rather than what we have copied off Aston Villa. Something that set us apart from them and West Ham and any other club for that matter would be great, not too different, but enough to be unique and recognisable worldwide.

That said I just think that last seasons kit is just a slight variance that we've had before a few times, I doubt there's a conspiracy by 'the Americans' about it, more's the pity IMO.

Not at all, just a question, will the "owners" let the fans wear the colours that have been the main colours for most of the 100 or so years the club has been in existence or are we Pace's daughter/ JJ Watts graphic design project now?

Not as bad as Vincent Tan but I would say it's significant project creep. Maybe no one else is bothered about this stuff and it's just me.

They evidently got the colour totally wrong this year which is probably the big reason they were still advertising them until a few weeks ago as on offer for sale. Still trying to flog them for £45

They sell every kit off cheap every season. I wouldn’t read too much into to that. Not to mention could be about the boring design as much as the colour.

Yep, i just checked that out.
I'd always been under the impression we changed from green to claret and blue but hadn't realised the diverse range of colours we'd used prior to that.

Yes but they’re always on offer/sale in some form or other for the second part of the season. Think the only one that I remember not being heavily discounted was the 22/23 home shirt which was supposed to be our best ever in shirt sales. Probably because it was a nice design and didn’t have a betting sponsor for those averse to them.

If Burnley are to stick with purple potion it may give Ashley something to put on his other buttock.

However although not over keen on the colour I think that it is more important who is inside the shirt than the shirt itself
