Eddie Howe simply a nice guy, I had pneumonia and was treated in the RVI last year, an excellent hospital.

Yeah, lovely. I particularly like the bit where he got a camera crew to follow him round, that was a nice touch. It wouldn't have meant as much if it wasn't being filmed, so I'm pleased the whole world got to see how selfless and genuine the whole thing was. Lovely.

Ouch!

Come on Dave - of course you can see it cynically if you wish but maybe, just maybe, there was some sincerity there too. Whatever, it makes a change to have a good news story where someone's showing some appreciation rather than the usual misery we see.

Some of my happiest days were spent at the RVI
However had I been lucky enough to have looked after Eddie apart from the shirt and a guest at St James next season for the Burnley game I would expect a proper thankyou
And that would be 3 points

Absolute top man. Incredibly modest for a football manager.
It's a real shame that he never got to finish the job here.

What a pathetic thing to say. It's the way of the world these days everything gets filmed, do you really think he arranged it all.

Howe is the only manager I gave a rollocking to, to his face (after his players turned up late to a POTY night after having a curry).

But he is a decent guy, and while mediocre for us is someone we wish well and appreciate his efforts. I’m so pleased he has recovered from what is quite a nasty illness.

No matter how worthy, nearly every single thread on here becomes littered with negativity. Howe gave the hospital and its staff worldwide publicly with his heartfelt thanks and kindly gesture, and yet we still have people looking to rubbish it.

When you blow out someone else's candle, your own doesn't get brighter. The room just gets darker.

My cynicism radar is always on, but feel here he wanted to shine a light on the people who looked after him rather than himself. It’s not like he needs more attention, being manager of Newcastle.

Anyway, it’s just a nice wholesome film which is a rare enough treat on the internet, regardless of motive.

I really don't get it with some of our fans still holding onto resentments towards Howe.
As much as they may not like to admit it the likelihood of being promoted in 2014 without him being the previous manager would have been almost nil.
He signed the backbone of that team including Trippier, Mee, Shackell, Ings and Vokes.
Even though the filming is a little cheesy, he seems sincere in his gratitude for the care he received in hospital, especially the support of his consultant who is a dedicated Burnley fan.
Well done Eddie Howe.

It’s really depressing how more and more people immediately jump to negative conclusions these days.

Think you might be getting confused with narcissistic people filming themselves doing a good deed to get popular or get the attention they crave with a Manager of a huge football club being followed around with cameras like what happens with our own manager and team.... if it happened to Scotty P ... you better know our club would be filming it.

How you can turn that in a negative baffles me

Perhaps we should stop doing the visits to kids in hospital at Christmas? That would be a shame because the kids seem to love being filmed and photographed

This thread is a microcosm of modern society. Some people naturally applauding a feel good story, in a world full of bad news. Others locked in with cynicism and resentment.

I would say Eddie didn't need to take time out to say thank you to everyone at the hospital , I would say he wanted to off his own bat .
This is just a good news story for everyone at the hospital and highlights what a fantastic job they do everyday .
I used to work for a medical device company , they had an open day for families and the motto was " my mummy / daddy saves life's " . They made over a million devices last year and it saved or prolonged life for a million people .

I wouldn't mind, but Eddie Howe hardly seems like a manager who craves the limelight (unlike his assistant, but that's another story...). I agree this is becoming an increasingly cynical and negative board.

Thought it was a lovely piece and he looked genuinely emotional in it - I imagine it knocked him for six and gave him a real shock.

To be fair to him he was profusely apologetic at the time because his lads were in the wrong, there were people there who had driven up from London and the players were about 60 minutes late because they were at their own party, I can't remember exactly how long. I accepted his apology and he came across as a good guy, as he still does, albeit at the time a bit wet behind the ears and I'm not convinced he had full leadership of his playing group some of whom were as old as he was.

Don't think it is about not wanting these events, it is about when the players do get a chance to interact with fans they treat them with respect, and a strong manager ensures they do.

Anyway, as I said in my post, a good guy and it is heartwarming to see him recover and want to thank the staff. No problem putting a glossy video out to promote it, shines a good light on the hospital.

Maybe, just maybe, it was set up by the club to be filmed and not by him???

It always amazes me how people always look for a negative in everything. Its like when someone is shouting from the rooftops about a sum of money they have raised for charity and you get folk moaning about the brag, I mean why the hell would you care? Its the charity that are the winner, let them have their moment, theyve done a good deed

That is have to disagree with , I knew his dad who used to travel to Ireland away games now as you can guess his son was the world to him , but stories came out from time to time about what he got up to was very poor class . Again most of it would be classed as hersay but I do know one Irish player decked him .

My wife works at the RVI and knows a couple of the nurses who looked after him. I have no issues with this at all as it shows the staff in a very good light….far from the negative media that the NHS usually gets…
