I used to work for Hill Dickinson almost 20 years ago. They are a big firm, and have their roots in marine law, which fits with their location.

They've also sponsored Lancs CCC for many years.

Completely agree.

Those old stadiums amongst the hard core supporters in the terraced houses around the stadium are (or were) fantastic. I’m glad Goodison is staying for that reason, but the soul of the club is ripped out by this move. Just as it was at West Ham when they left Upton Park, Spurs when they demolished White Hart Lane, etc.

But naming it after a small law firm is salt in the wounds.

You could argue it's been going that way for decades and the main reason for that is rising ticket prices, pricing a lot of working class people out of the game. Not necessarily anything to do with new stadiums. Plenty of people are getting ripped off just fine in old ones, too.

Not that it really matters, going from the famous Goodison Park to a shiny bowl and renaming it after a tiny law firm is grim whatever pounds it’s bringing in.

Hi New, Hill Dickinson is not a tiny law firm. 200 partners, 1,000 staff. As already posted, started out in marine law - we all know Liverpool was a very big shipping centre - and now covers a lot more commercial law. Senior partners are reported to earn over £1 million a year.

Report I've read says the money is a lot less than £10 million, closer to £6 million, including add-ons.

A 200 partner law firm with £150 million turnover is not tiny, but as commercial law firms go they are mid-tier at best even in the UK. If it as much as people are saying, it is a very bold move by them.

It's not the kind of law firm that you'd go to for a personal dispute, so I'm guessing the idea is to get more global exposure and try and gain more high profile corporate clients. It's a bold move mind.

If a brand's long-term strategy involves gaining greater global recognition, then this type of thing can be powerful.

If your life/career doesn't involve hiring (or influencing the procurement of) a large corporate law firm, then it would have little impact for you, personally.

More broadly, on the matter of cost, the idea of 'building a brand' through recognition, is understood to bolster trust - allowing the brand to charge more for its wares.

It's a surprising association for me, indeed - and the name hardly rolls off the tongue (like "The Emirates" or "The Etihad").
I can understand why Evertonians might be slightly disappointed.
