Lancashire v Derbyshire ...
Derbyshire have won the toss and have asked Lancashire to bat ... James Anderson is in the starting XI
Lancashire's captain, Keaton Jennings resigned on Monday despite having signed a new 5 year " red ball " contract earlier this year. Interesting article in the " Telegraph " earlier this week ....

Re: Lancashire v Derbyshire ...
They had a meeting about preparing a results pitch. Certainly a lot of seam movement so far.
There's a very short boundary as well with them playing at the edge of the square.

Live streaming on YouTube as well. Great coverage to be fair. Had the pleasure of listening to Paul Allott and Bumble. Excellent broadcasters with plenty of East Lancs references.

Derby 33/1 - Anderson gets the wicket after going for three boundaries in the previous four balls.

I don’t think we will lose this one, but yet again, it has been another terrible performance in parts.

So what will Lancs do here , bat for an hour and a half or try to get to 350 then put them in , now we could be blowed out before then ?

We seem to be not firing on all cylinders at the moment but we need to start getting results soon or we are in trouble..

Think this round of results leaves Lancs as the only county in both divisions without a win

Just the 15,000 at Surrey for the last match.

Re: Lancashire v Derbyshire ...
I read that the average gate for a county championship game at OT was less than 1,000.
Re: Lancashire v Derbyshire ...
Well, you've answered your own question then, clearly people do watch county cricket, albeit in relatively low numbers.Dressinggown wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 10:11 amI read that the average gate for a county championship game at OT was less than 1,000.
Not helped by the fact they frequently play Monday to Thursday mind.

Re: Lancashire v Derbyshire ...
There is the perfect reason why Lancashire should have taken their games around the county more, rather then play at an empty Old Trafford, or in the future play some at a characterless, newly built ground.Dressinggown wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 10:11 amI read that the average gate for a county championship game at OT was less than 1,000.
There's a plethora of quality grounds in the county that could easily host a first class game, in terms of infrastructure , quality of surface and facilities, and would be very well attended.
I can guarantee that players would enjoy playing at a nice club ground, with a few thousand there, with a great atmosphere rather than playing at a 90% empty test venue. You never know, it may even inspire them to win a game...

Splitting the season so the games are played in April/May/September away from the warmer months also won't have helped.

Re: Lancashire v Derbyshire ...
Agreed, especially this year with the added 'Jimmy Anderson' factor. Could imagine some decent crowds on the out grounds to watch him close-up.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 10:39 amThere is the perfect reason why Lancashire should have taken their games around the county more, rather then play at an empty Old Trafford, or in the future play some at a characterless, newly built ground.
