It always amuses me that people prepared to watch a programme involving time travel in a dimensionally transcendental Police Box involving aliens, monsters and a lead character thousands of years old who has had many faces say ‘well this is just silly now’ when it introduces black people and homosexuals.

My kids interest waned when Peter Capaldi took over then they gave up completely when Jodie Whittaker killed it. Its a shame the BBC owns it because they really have ruined it completely.

I’ve quite enjoyed this series- the writing is a whole lot better than the Whittaker years.

I’ll be quite glad if Disney do pull out because I think its main problem has been the shortened episode and series length.

Every episode’s ending has felt rushed and they’re having to cram in references to the overall arc into every episode.

He’s certainly got a lot of loose ends to tie together for the finale! But IMO RTD was always better at that than Moffat anyway so maybe he’ll manage to pull it off.

TBH, I'd find it tiresome and it would risk getting the thread pulled. Dr Who could be as woke as it liked for all I care - but only if the storylines were good enough to hold it all together and the moralizing doesn't detract from the plotline.

Frankly, I don't think the storylines have been good enough since Moffat left. Maybe it's just run out of steam again? Maybe RTD isn't the writer he was? Maybe a combination of factors like these but it hasn't been entertaining in the way it was when it triumphantly returned to TV.

To,do that, he’d have to explain what he thinks “woke” means, whilst carefully avoiding the dictionary definition - aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)

Thought the Whittaker/Chibnall series were fairly dumbed down, the writing was so poor- far too much exposition, not enough show don’t tell.
These ones have been a lot better though.

Dr Who went downhill when the Doctor appeared to add sexual attraction to his personna. Then a woman, followed by a black man, just don't portray the image of the Doctor, in my head. I watched Jodie Whittaker and was not impressed.

Since it's black and white times it has been bent out of shape.

I can remember watching the very first episode of Dr Who with my older brother - a quick search reveals it was November 1963 .... for some reason I prefered the giant ant Zarbi creatures to the Daleks :) . It was good escapism and fun for a while.

A lot of that early stuff really stands up. It was groundbreaking telly.

The first episode to feature the Daleks (you only see a plunger) is a classic piece of British TV. It's almost film noir. The whole episode is steeped in Cold War paranoia and eerie atmosphere.

It's available for free on iPlayer:

Almost - JFK killed Friday November 22nd, Dr Who first episode was the following day Saturday the 23rd. And for today's bit of trivia, on the day Dr Who first broadcast, Burnley beat Villa 2-0 at the Turf with a goal in each half from Robson and Price - :)

Brian Cox thinks you can travel in to the future https://www.youtube.com/shorts/8ovkBAux3x8 .

I think Kant argued that time is so intrinsically built into human cognition that humans struggle to think outside of it.

Course it's nonsense because time is a social construct and has no meaning in reality. We don't travel into the future - the future is just the way humans organise the infinite moments of now in cognition.

What it does prove is how much sh*te natural scientists talk when they try and engage with social constructs.

Tom Baker would have understood that....!

It's not silly. People are just fed up with diversity being forced on them at every opportunity. The new doctor and his assistant got the roles because of diversity. Not on merit or because they were best actors/actresses for the roles.

I absolutely loved Dr.Who in the sixties to the point obsession. Tend to still watch it nowadays out of some sort of nostalgic loyalty.

Some stories in fairness are quite decent, especially with the investment BBC have put in for dramatics and special effects. Gone are the cheap bouncy sets and monsters with zips showing in their costumes. But for me the stories seem to rely on ridiculous whizz bang stories and razzmatazz shouting of last minute conclusions. Gone are the quietly mysterious storylines with scary themes. Or maybe it is just different because I am not an eight year old anymore.

Not sure what pseudo-intellectualism has got to do with racism to be honest unless of course you think the name 'Cox' is a dangerous symbol of the patriarchy.

How do you know Ncuti wasn't the best actor for the role?
Where you in the audition process, do you know who else was up for the role?
For me Ncuti Gatwa was a bit of an unknown for the role (most people only knew him from Sex Education) as was Matt Smith, and in my opinion, he's doing a bloody good job as did Jodie Whittaker. The thing with Whittaker was the writing was poor, Ncuti Gatwa has the wonderful brain of Russell T Davies to work with and I think he's making a great Doctor. Times have changed and the Doctor is changing with them

In his first stint Davies wrote episodes around the Dr Who character and occasionally got 13 million viewers. Now he writes stories that promote his own social a political views that feature Dr. Who and he’s occasionally getting as few as 1.5 million. He’s also tinkering with the lore far more this time round. Clearly some like it, more don’t.

I would suggest viewing figures of all 'live' TV programmes have dropped significantly in the last 20 years, regardless of the quality of their content.

They have but Dr Who’s decline, particularly the latest series is way beyond the average.

I'm calling it now... The regeneration is not the new Doctor, as they weren't introduced as The Doctor in the end credits, all other regenerations have. I think they're coming back as their original character in some way.

Where did I say nobody watched it before the internet?

I tell you this though, I certainly didn't see anyone getting worked up over Doctor Who. You must have drank in some oddbod pubs if you overheard adults arguing about who was playing the role at the time.
