Liverpool Parade
From the video I’ve just seen, a car ploughing through the crowds, I can’t see how there could be an outcome that doesn’t include a loss of lives.

Re: Liverpool Parade
Seeing footage from earlier in the incident, it appears there is some kind of road rage and the guy has completely lost his mind and driven into the crowds. Police confirmed it's a white British man from Liverpool. I hope everyone is ok.

It's likely not terror related and best not to speculate. Heartfelt condolences to all the victims. Sad day for Liverpool...!
Re: Liverpool Parade
It doesn't look like an accident. The poor person who was hit head on must be in a very serious condition.

No surprise to see the authorities have quickly pointed out that it's a white, British middle aged man.
The last thing we need is misinformation and a reaction a la Southport.

Re: Liverpool Parade
Looked like he somehow took a wrong turn , tried reversing hit someone . Then his vehicle was attacked, kicked etc he set off forward hit someone then carried on into a large crowd that was more or less on the sidewalk not in the road. And hit a lot of people. Very very stupid behaviour by the driver and as vehicle had come to a stop 3 times to then plough on - he is going to jail for a long time
Re: Liverpool Parade
Might not be the time to discuss but were the roads open?
That seems crazy if so.
If they weren't then where were the barriers that usually get installed for these type of events (the type we get at the Turf outside the ground) for this exact scenario.

This type of thing just should not happen.
The sight of the people attacking the car reminded me of a truly horrendous day in Belfast in the eighties.

Literally I looked on X at the very start as my partner was in Liverpool and she messaged to say there was a problem at the train station. I went on X for info and literally within minutes there was so much racist stuff tweeted relating to this incident.agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon May 26, 2025 8:32 pmDidn’t take a notorious racist long to insinuate just enough on social media to set off his rabid followers.

Maybe some reports are saying Dale Street ... Is Water Street parallel to the strand I though it went up into Dale street into the city centre. We always used to call the strand the Dock Road for some reason.
I was born in Liverpool but haven't lived there for decades..
Sad sad day for the City and those who are injured. Gutted for them really.

Re: Liverpool Parade
I mean, in the immediate aftermath of Southport, people flooded social media with reports of the perpetrator being of a certain religion, with a certain skin colour and that he was known to the authorities. The authorities were then quick to quash those rumours and published information of their own.
As a result, people who used their social media accounts to spread the original information were prosecuted and some were jailed.
Later, it was revealed that almost everything initially posted about the perpetrator was correct, and it was the governments version of the truth that was wrong.
People still in prison.
That’s all I mean.
I wonder if in the future, any incidents of this type will result in the immediate reporting of ethnicity before anything else? And if it isn’t reported as that, are people to assume that it is not a white, british person?

Re: Liverpool Parade
That's not what happened. Anyway, it doesn't seem appropriate to have a debate on the rights and wrongs of disclosing a person's skin colour or religion, whilst this situation is still ongoing.bobinho wrote: ↑Mon May 26, 2025 9:12 pmI mean, in the immediate aftermath of Southport, people flooded social media with reports of the perpetrator being of a certain religion, with a certain skin colour and that he was known to the authorities. Re: Liverpool Parade
Just seen another video, the road he was driving up was not closed but very busy. He was one of few cars driving. His car was surrounded, attacked by numerous people, rear door opened and back window smashed. No doubt a terrifying situation for the driver to be in yet in no way justifying what then unfolded.
This looks like a real terrible chain of events rather than a stereotypical terrorist attack. Let’s hope for no fatalities

Despite this being from a BBC reporter and as such should perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt, it does appear to corroborate what you say that the car (driver) was primeraly attacked causing it to accelerate in panic.Penwortham_Claret wrote: ↑Mon May 26, 2025 9:40 pmJust seen another video, the road he was driving up was not closed but very busy. Dan Ogunshakin, an off-duty BBC reporter, was in Liverpool for the parade and witnessed part of the incident.
Describing what he saw, he says: "The mood was one of celebration, of happiness, of joy and then all of a sudden we noticed an ambulance was moving down the crowd and I said to my friend, 'I wonder if someone had fallen ill', as obviously the ambulance is attending to someone."
He says he saw a grey car in front of the ambulance and "suddenly a lot of people started to surround it".
"Then what we noticed was people were hitting the car and shaking the car and we wondered why this was suddenly happening."
He says the car then reversed and knocked people away from it, and then "it suddenly accelerated forwards" straight towards the crowd of people.
"What had once been an atmosphere of celebration and joy and happiness suddenly turned into fear and terror and disbelief," he says.

Strange. Bbc reporter claimed it was closed the last I heard.
