Triangles or Halves
Triangles or Halves
In true close season boredom I was wondering what the consensus is. When cutting a slice of toast is it into two halves going from top to bottom of the slice of bread or triangles by cutting from top to bottom corners diagonal.
For me it's always triangles, my wife is always halves. Watching my two children cut up their toast this morning they are also of the triangle persuasion. My work is done.

I've always cut in halves from the left to the right, as I quite like eating a top half and a bottom half

Top and bottom halves for me too, eat the bottom rectangular half first then the rounded half.

Re: Triangles or Halves
Triangles are halves. If you insist on cutting, the most efficient way is to make the cut across the width of the bread. This expends less energy and results in less debris.

Re: Triangles or Halves
The only cutting of toast should be in the shape of soldiers for dipping in your chucky egg.
Other than that, butter it and eat it like a man.

If you’re having stress over the shape of your toast then just have crumpets

If you''re a Blackburn fan it should be halves, or maybe ever-decreasing circles...

Folded lengthways on my own, cut triangles for company. One should be flexible.

Re: Triangles or Halves
I just can’t get on the avocado bandwagon.
At a push, I can eat it if it’s covered in sauce as part of a prawn cocktail, but on toast with an egg, nope. Too much sliminess going on with the avocado and egg yolk and they don’t taste that great either.
Now if you’d stopped at buttered sourdough with an egg, that’s a different story.

I was never a fan. And someone made me a very simple sandwich of roast chicken slices and some avocado, like another poster further up said, plenty of salt and pepper. Delicious.DCWat wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 7:09 pmI just can’t get on the avocado bandwagon.

Back to toast. Im a full slice man. No cut needed. Often biting round the crust first to leave the buttery centre. I'm 32 with the eating habits of a ten year old.
For a great combination with toast, leftover chilli cannot be beaten!

I like avocado with salmon in those sushi boxes from supermarkets. Would never have eaten it otherwise but it’s ok, honestly. I surprise myself sometimes. It’s whole slice for me but halves for butties. Never triangles.
Re: Triangles or Halves
Triangles every time. It's a given.

Re: Triangles or Halves
I thought what a silly irrelevant thread topic
Then I thought Halves obviously,
I always feel cheated in some way by triangles, even though I know that makes no sense
But they just seem so pretentious

Went to Robertshaws in Skipton for a full English this morning.
My mate was given halves, I was given triangles.
That kind of inconsistency is unacceptable.

Triangles don't work well if the bread is too rectangulary.
Triangles is best with squarest bread.

The Chef in Robertshaws has a look and decides who looks a Triangley and who looks a Halfy ... you obviously exude a triangley vibe Dougdougcollins wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 7:22 pmWent to Robertshaws in Skipton for a full English this morning.

Scalenes are the worst triangles. Everybody knows it.dougcollins wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 7:27 pmI'm actually quite taken with those irregular triangles.
I find them obtuse, though soon tamed with butter.
