If Pep is now saying both their keepers are staying are we really likely to get a bidding war regarding Trafford if Man City are not involved?

Arsenal are the dark horses for Trafford, will depend on Rayer going to Madrid.

Losing Steeeve would be a serious disaster, he is our only CB who has played well at this level.

I'm worried now...

If you get worried at every internet rumour, it's going to be a long, long summer

I agree, hell of a lot of scaremongering in that respect, however club's will have an eye on him, he was stand out last season let alone this and has obviously been noticed. Thing I don't understand is why don't we just price them out, £50m or go away sort of tactic, or "not for sale" he's imperative" to our chances of staying up this season.

We appear to be in the month now when agents start to get even more annoying than usual.

Feels like Steve’s agent is on manoeuvres. Whether that is to get him a pay-rise or a big move, who knows?

It is the world we live in - the key is to get top, top dollar for any we reluctantly sell. If we don’t get it, keep the player and rely on Parker’s man management to refocus the, for the battle ahead.

For Esteve and Trafford I would personally be insisting on £40m each. At a pinch £35m plus near certain add ons. Any less, forget it. Their old clubs probably have sell on clauses for a start.

In an ideal world that's exactly what we should do, but football is not an ideal world

We don't know what it says in his contract regarding transfer, release clauses etc etc.

The fortunate thing is he doesn't appear to be the sort to kick up a fuss, and has put the club before country on at least two occasions.

I agree-Palace put a high price on Guehi and Newcastle made 3 bids. Each time fell short and on each bid were told to go away reminding them of the "ticket price"

Correct, but I never feel it's as simple as that because if the player makes it clear he wants to go, exercising your right to force him to stay makes for a very unhappy chap. If players know interested clubs are going to triple their wages and guarantee top half PL football for the next 4 years it's only natural they'll want to move which means it then becomes about us getting the best price we can whilst being realistic and that can't involve pricing them out of the market or waving the signed contract under their noses unfortunately.

You don’t price a player out of a move. It doesn’t and shouldn’t work like that.

Our usp is bringing in young players, developing them and then selling them on at good profit. We’ve largely done that well in the past 10 years. We want to be known across Europe as a good club for young players to come to.

What you don’t do is muck players around, block transfers, ask for unrealistic prices etc, that’s just completely counter productive to what our whole strategy is.

Asking 50M for Esteve and/or all the fee up front is completely unrealistic.

He’s been absolutely awful for Atlanta, they signed him for close to 20m too.

He wasn’t much better for Boro. A 1 in 3 striker in the Championship.

We probably wouldn't stand in his way but at the same time I'm sure we'd still demand the right price even if the player wanted to go.

I'm hoping Beyer is fit and starts early with trainer and getting back to a first team choice, along with what we have, who hopefully stay, but if not we need to get good fees and buy wisely, obviously that's for any position, but I think these two positions are going to be critical for us.

11 in 29 in his last season at Boro. 5 in 16 at Atlanta.

16 in 30 in the prior season for Boro, then had records of less than one in three in farmers leagues. So one good year basically.

There also has to be a line (lowest price) that can never be crossed no matter how unhappy the player is to stay.

Otherwise you could end up selling a player for next to nothing.

You can't say £10-15 million for Esteve is better than nothing, for example.

I think this risk is hugely overstated to be honest.

If you look at every summer there are transfers that don’t happen. More probably don’t happen than do, really. In every case the window “slams” shut and they crack on playing for their club.

As examples, Guehi and Branthwaite have both been linked with moves away to bigger clubs in recent wimdows, but cracked on when they didn’t happen.

Players rarely, if ever, kick off or start to perform poorly. It only damages their own reputation and serves no purpose to play badly and scupper a possible future move. I also think the vast, vast majority of players are way more professional than we give them credit for.

I think if a super club comes in like Bayern for Kompany, it’s a different situation, but then they should be willing to play the top money too.

I’m pretty sure Esteve knew there would be interest this summer, but signed the deal… this suggests he a) intends to make sure Burnley get a good price, b) intends to carry on building his reputation with us. He has already proved he is very level headed and clearly loves the club. I think any move would have to suit both player and club 100% - possibly more than any other player at the club, I expect him to be with us next season, despite the obvious interest.

Has Esteve even signed an extension / new deal this summer . He signed permanent last summer but quickly followed that up in September (when the transfer window closed) with a new improved 5 year contract (2024-2029) as a thanks / reward for staying.

If a player gets injured and he's not under contract what happens then...? There are good reasons why a player would sign a contract.

I don’t think the club would be able to turn this down.

Targett is on 100k per week at Newcastle apparently. I can’t see it, although maybe he values game time over pay.

After a few years out I’d say it’s a bit of a risk but would bring a lot of experience. Not the most exciting of signings but maybe an astute one at the right price wages wise.

Good to see us linked to experience.

I think we have already signed his replacement in Humphrey’s.

I doubt we will let Esteve go unless it’s an excessive bid. Not sure it will be as high as 50m though.

Not a Chance. But even in that scenario there’s merit in brownHill being our highest earner (or even highest ever).

Not reckon? Can’t imagine it will be far off that if he signs. I imagine His agent will be saying we are saving you 10-15m in a replacement. So offer us a three year contract worth that amount.

These players that people are saying are on £100k a week but leaving their current club as they’re out of contract will be on £0 a week in about 4 weeks time.

Seriously ?
I’d be amazed if any of our players are on even half that amount.
I suspect this season nearly all of our starting eleven will be on 50k or more.

The data available on the salary tracking websites suggested Tarks, Mee, et al were on ~£60k per week.

I have no idea how they get private data, so it might all be rubbish, but using that as a baseline our old pro’s were hitting those numbers.

Last year Matt Williams commented how much the salaries had increased from our previous time in the Premier League!

Obviously we know they’ll have dropped a lot this year but also go up again on promotion. Won’t help us moving a few players on like Tresor and Amdouni, you’d think.

So, you think that all of our starting eleven will be on £50k a week or more which is what Mbuemo is currently being paid at Brentford?
According to today’s BBC Gossip page Mbuemo is hoping to secure a deal with Manchester United of £250k a week (5 X his current salary at Brentford).

The annual wage bill last time we were in the Premier League tells its own story.

I saw an article the other day suggesting Liverpool were offering Wirtz more than £250k a week to join them.
So nothing really amazes me about football and the PL anymore.

Sancho being on £300k per week and KDB being on £400k at City make Wirtz look quite cheap!

Jesus. If that’s true, I have to say, I’d have likely passed!

Surely the answer to out of contract players such as Brownhill potentially disrupting a club's salary scale is to pay a salary consistent with all the other players, plus a separate 'signing fee' which is payable over the duration of the contact, or paid off as with a 'sell on fee' should you later sell him. So wages plus fee = £80k/week
