Team pic - but do you know the players?
Re: Team pic - but do you know the players?
Ct re you comment that said you’d already referred to having put info about the social club in your earlier post. Your comment was “it was in town”. My post pointed out the actual location of it, as it may have revived memories for readers.

The last time I was in there will be about 30 years ago, the 'turn' on that night was Tavares.

More recently than me. The last time I was in there was a BFC function of some kind and I was told that we'd signed Joe Gallagher from West Ham - so 42 years ago.Eyesofblue2 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 05, 2025 11:20 pmThe last time I was in there will be about 30 years ago, the 'turn' on that night was Tavares.

If I remember correctly it was the top floor above the shops and offices on Parker Lane between the bus station and Burnley Building Society. The entrance was on the corner of the building and the social club was open to non members. Small admission fee I guess. Very smart place in its timeClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jun 05, 2025 5:26 pmI mentioned it further up the thread. I walked past today and wondered what had happened to it. It was a huge place.

Brilliant.Didnt see the game, but I was doing well going down that list until Jack Butterfield. Remember watching Woodruff, Mather, Shannon, Chew and of course McDonald play for us in the 50's. Although I knew Jack Butterfield via his sons, never saw him play and I dont think some of the others played for the first team. Les Shannon scored a goal against some team or other and my Dad introduced me to a goal being a daisy cutter.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 1:42 pmDon’t know if this will help anybodies memory but this was our side in 1962.

Remember Jackie Chew scoring the two goals in our defeat of Spurs in the early 1950's too.
Brings back wonderful memories: of earlier and earlier kick offs as winter approached and early evening kick offs on Tuesday evenings in August before floodlights were installed. The only covered areas when I was dragged to the Turf by my Dad were the cricket field stand and part of the area along Harry Pott's way. Happy days!

The entire first floor of the block that was on Croft Street/Red Lion Street/Parker Lane/Boot Way. I've just taken the pic below from Google Maps - the entrance was the door on the left which had the stairs immediately behind it.FCBurnley wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 2:05 pmIf I remember correctly it was the top floor above the shops and offices on Parker Lane between the bus station and Burnley Building Society. The man standing on the right is Eric Eddlestone who was Chairman of Burnley Rural District Council at the time. My parents were close friends
of him and his wife and I with one of their sons.
