Re: Postecoglou
Nothing confirmed as yet by Spurs but undoubtedly he's gone
Re: Postecoglou
They’ll probably get in a top rate manager to replace him, they always seem to manage to get big names. Not that any of them ever win anything, until Ange did and it gets him sacked!

Thomas Frank seems to be the clear favourite but if he's any sense he'll stay where he is

Re: Postecoglou
Joking apart, it would have been very difficult to get a team relegated in the last two seasons given the performances of the three promoted clubs. They finished the season with less points than we won in any of five successive seasons from 2016/17 to 2020/21 but were still a mile clear.

Confirmed
"Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties."

Re: Postecoglou
He did well under difficult circumstances now it will be interesting to see who gets the poisoned chalice next
Re: Postecoglou
Clearly, he's been sacked following his admittance about prioritising the EL. Their statement says they want to be competing on every level, but they will never ever win The Prem or CL. Poch got sacked after getting them in the CL & a final. Ange is only the 3rd manager to get them silverware and is now potted. Never more appropriate is wanting "champagne tastes on beer money". Crackpot club & owner.

He's done an absolutely dreadful job, this shouldn't be a surprise.
Re: Postecoglou
The irony is he's just trousered a £2m bonus for winning the Europa League.

Re: Postecoglou
No surprise really, they have got to prevent that winning mentality from infecting the club, when they have worked so hard to avoid it.
Thomas Frank would be a good choice, with the sales of Mbuemo and Wissa much touted. It could be a bit of turmoil that helps the promoted sides.

The only manager I have known in this country that rarely looks the interviewer in the eye. Always looks at the ground, and very flippant in his responses-the UK press are going to miss him more than the fans
Re: Postecoglou
...but Thomas Frank gets teams to in or around 10th place, which wouldn't be good enough.

For me Marco Silva is a good option, and I think Thomas Frank will show loyalty to Brentford (he seems to be part of the furniture there)

Daniel Levy seems to have all the power at the club yet he doesn't seem to know what he's doing apart from sacking managers.

Re: Postecoglou
This season a 16th place finish was exceptionally bad which is why it was making a lot of back page headlines. Prior to this season Spurs had seen 3 top six finishes and an eighth placed finish in recent years.
I would say, based on that, Spurs should definitely be aiming top 8 as a minimum.

Re: Postecoglou
Just heard on the radio that no PL club, other than Spurs has ever survived relegation with 22 losses. That is some stat when you look at their investment in stadium and players recently
Re: Postecoglou
Totally agree mate but I can guarantee that finishing eighth will not sit well with the majority of Spurs fans and the manager will be hounded out.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 6:33 pmThis season a 16th place finish was exceptionally bad which is why it was making a lot of back page headlines. This is how I see the true order in the Premier League:
1. Manchester United
2. Liverpool
3. Arsenal
4. Manchester City
5. Chelsea
6. Newcastle
7. Aston Villa
8. Spurs - Everton - Burnley- West Ham
The rest.

He had two seasons, won them their first piece of silverware in decades and earned a Champions League place for next season.

In my reply I did state 8th as a minimum. In reality they should be top 6 but it remains to be seen if a new manager can deliver that.equinox wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 6:50 pmTotally agree mate but I can guarantee that finishing eighth will not sit well with the majority of Spurs fans and the manager will be hounded out.

Re: Postecoglou
Here’s another stat for you. The first PL team to qualify for the Champions League after suffering 22 losses that season. Not only earning Spurs well in excess of £100m but also making the club far more attractive as a proposition to the next incoming manager.warksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 6:48 pmJust heard on the radio that no PL club, other than Spurs has ever survived relegation with 22 losses. Re: Postecoglou
Another example of the crazy world of football!
Levy: ‘we need a manager to win us a major trophy for the first time in a billion years’.
Ange: ‘there you go Daniel, here’s the Europa league trophy’!
Levy: ‘thanks Ange, here’s a £2 million quid bonus for winning the second biggest trophy in Europe and by the way, you’re sacked’!
Absolutely mental!!!

Re: Postecoglou
Plainly sensible decision. You employ a manager for what they can do for you in the future, not as a reward for winning a trophy. They weren't going to win a major trophy next season under Postecoglou but they had every chance of being pathetic in the league again.

Re: Postecoglou
If you look at their run in the Europa League they should have been expected to win it. They only beat about one decent team.

Re: Postecoglou
A 17th place finish is pretty obscene for a club like Spurs and I agree with KentonClaret - 8th and above is much what they should be accepting. And I see them as a bigger club than Villa. The correct decision imo

Re: Postecoglou
Not at all surprised he's gone...for Spurs to finish 17th and lose 22 games is ridiculously terrible, even taking into account they had a lot of injuries during the season. Yes they won the Europa League but in all honesty they didn't have to beat a great amount of quality along the way. They were awful in the final , scraping a win with an o.g. (it really was) against a dreadful Man United and having 27pc possession. ironically Postecoglu won his trophy playing in a way which totally abandoned the principles he said he would always stick by. Not sorry to see the back of his prickly and belligerent responses to perfectly sensible questions in interviews either.
