This has been 12 months in the making so it's hardly a surprise. He wanted to leave last summer. Maybe the club came to an agreement with Trafford in order to get another season out of him? We aren't usually a club that stands in the way of player progress; it's one of the reasons we get young talent through the door. £30m plus is a difficult fee for a club of our size to turn down. Hopefully we can get a bidding war between two and three clubs to push it up, but how many would have thought £30m was possible 12 months ago?

Not sure there’s much benefit to a sell on. Successful GKs at Champions League clubs rarely move these days.

Real Madrid or Barcelona will find 100m down the back sofa if he does well.

The way Traff played in our last Premier league league season was down to our porus back 4 and the nonsense of playing out from the back against lightening quick players.He has come on vastly and personally we ask for North of £40m to deter chancers like Newcastle.

Conversely £12m profit on a 15m investment equates to 80%, which spread over two years, is 40% per annum.

For context, only 3 goalkeepers in the entire history of world football have been sold for more than £35m. In all three cases we are taking about GKs who were playing at the top and of major leagues and European football.

Acting like £30m (even if it’s true) is some kind of ridiculous bargain, just isn’t born out by everything that’s gone before.

Fair, but contextually there has been massive inflation since the pandemic. Feels like about 25% in society at large (without checking). No doubts much of that will trickle into football transfers.

£30m is too cheap for Trafford. Old stats of sales aren’t relevant any more.

When you take into account agents fees, spreading the payments over 3 or 4 years, plus factoring costs, interest on our loans….works out at around 3 hundred quid profit (probably !!)

My hunch is Trafford ends up back at City. Their goalkeeper situation is up in the air and if offers from Newcastle get close to their buyback I think they'll activate it for a couple of reasons.

I agree. A buy and loan back makes perfect sense to me.

I really don’t think he’ll end up at Newcastle. I think a few big clubs might join the fun this summer and that might spur City in to action.

Better for us, would imagine there's an add on to City as soon as he gets an England cap. If he's leaving anyway (which seems the more likely) better we don't have to pay anything extra before he goes.

Couldn't agree more on the basis that Parker wouldn't throw him under the bus in the same way kompany did, I was a massive critic of Trafford in that Premier league season, but he has certainly taken it on board and improved in area's he needed to, however I still believe there's a bit of a way to go before he's world class as lot's describe him, and I believe the best place right now is to stay where he is. But then as you say, money talks, for both club and player unfortunately, but I would hope if he does move on we get closer to £40m than £30m.
