Taylor's missed penalty against Wednesday is the worst one I can remember from us, it was like a back pass.

An underhit one.

Worse than Cornet's?

Yes. Taylor’s was the worst Burnley penalty I’ve seen in over 50 years of watching us.

Taylor missed an early penalty in the 6th round at home to Sheff Wed in the next game.
Yes he did and that was an extremely costly one.

He did and we got absolutely slaughtered in the replay.

1982/83 FA Cup 5th Round Replay. You are correct about Steve Taylor. The original tie at Palace had finished 0-0 in a dreadful game which MOTD struggled to find any 'highlights' in. I went to Selhurst Park on a special train that day.
Straight into Norwood Junction I think - I was on it

John Angus once took one (not sure why) but it went out of the ground. I'd suggest those taken by Gifton Noel-Williams and Maxwel Cornet were far worse than Taylor's.

He once did his groin taking one for us 😂
At Leicester in the 1975/76 season and he walked straight off. Such was the injury that he only started four of the next twenty league games.

I recall a missed penalty by Dave Thomas v Man City in December 1970. It was at the Beehole End and went as wide as it did high. Another humiliation at the hands of City, we lost 0-4.

I think he was referring to Ron Futcher - he did his groin scoring a pen at Stockport.

It was because I'd been reading about Uwe but he did do that at Leicester and walked straight off. Thinking about it, the poster wouldn't have been old enough to have seen the one at Leicester.

All subjective of course. I can forgive penalties dragged wide or blasted over but a feeble toe poke chip straight into the keeper’s hands in an FA Cup quarter final, I can’t!

I remember Alex Elder missing in one of the battles we had against Leeds. What about the other end of the pitch. The great Harry Thomson, my memory is probably a bit off but I think of the first 12 he faced 2 were missed and he saved 10.

A quarter final we were in because Taylor stepped up to score the penalty that got us there.

Indeed he did. Interesting that Barry Davies said that Taylor had told him before the match that Laws would be the penalty taker! He was a good enough finisher Taylor, but never the cleanest striker of the ball

Lawsy had missed one against Palace I think which is why Taylor came to take the winning pen. At that time, Taylor was a really good finisher and he'd scored a hat trick against Wednesday in the league earlier in the season. When he came back in 1988, he'd lost his pace and was nothing like as good.

Missed one for us and a couple more when he went back to Preston.

I remember Brian Laws hitting one towards ( I use that term loosely) towards the Bee Hole End goal and it going so wide it was nearer the corner flag than the goal ( it was possibly a retaken one too? )

Dave Thomas had a few penalties which were further away from the posts than I can remember from any other penalty kicks. Think he sliced one a long way wide at Cricket Field end against Crystal Palace(???).

Another against Man City (0-4 defeat) when he ballooned his kick high into the Beehole End.

Think both these were around about 1969-1970 ish?

GA certainly had a different technique to almost all other penalty takers who generally side foot the ball. He took a few deep breaths then ran gun-barrel straight at the ball, striking it with his instep at his chosen point of connection. Goalkeepers could not read the direction.

Very different technique but it certainly worked
