Kind of you to say so. That would be nice. Go well, sir and UTC

Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
The year we went up under Kompany after years going home and away, I did one away game and haven't done many since. Local ones aside. Various reasons although some I never anticipated. I have retained my season tickets and continue to go on most at home (although have missed more than my share in recent years including some games I would never have dreamed of missing before). And found it easier than I ever imagined (or hoped) to do so!
I envisage next seasons lack of 3pm Saturdays (a la this season) will mean I miss even more. But I won't miss, missing them!
I am sure the bug will come back. I love the club as much as I ever did. (Although like a lot of stuff these days, I do feel like we are over stimulated with the sheer amount of coverage and interaction we have these days!)

I got a job as a porter in the Keirby Hotel so I worked most Saturdays in the eighties. Monday you I probably saw more action in the Hotel so not all bad.

The 87 survival season came at a bad time of my life, and then due to a combination of things, I missed the whole of the following two seasons.

Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
Been going fairly regularly and when I can since 86/87. Was taken earlier as a child in late 70s. Didn’t see the early 80s much. Had a season ticket for the last 15 years. The only time I’ve not gone through choice was a few matches in the PL season under VK even with a paid season ticket. Just couldn’t stand the predictability of what I was seeing and the naive tactics along with the shambolic transfer window.

The two you missed were at least better than 86/87.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 8:44 amThe 87 survival season came at a bad time of my life, and then due to a combination of things, I missed the whole of the following two seasons.

Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
Costs and life in general
Fuel costs became ridiculous so that knocked regular match attendances on the head
I don't often have anywhere to stay, or I'd have commitments the day after, so I'd be doing there and back in the same day, driving on my own and that's knackering
Changes to jobs/work rotas etc
Having a young daughter who stays with me every other weekend
Spending my money on foreign holidays instead
Eventually you just fall out of the habit
More often than not I wouldn't know until short notice if I had the time to go and then I'd weigh up the driving etc
I'll pick up the odd game here and there, especially for a ground I haven't been to before

Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
And I really enjoyed it going again following those seasons.
So glad I experienced the Mullen seasons.
Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
My last season ticket was 2023/24. We seem to do very well when I step away (22/23 and last season) so I've avoided getting one for next season - so expect the title!
Seriously though, having two young kids and running two businesses means disposable income can be at a premium, so sadly my season ticket is one of the sacrifices. Hoping to be back for 26/27.

Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
I took a relatively short space of time out from watching - season 2007/08. After the dross served up the previous season, I decided to put my money where my mouth was and not put myself through the pain any longer after travelling to the 2-0 defeat in the opening away game of the season at the mighty Scunthorpe, who would go on to be relegated. That was me done under Cotterill I'm afraid. Came back once Cotterill had gone - so only a relatively short sabbatical!
Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
I hardly went for a couple years in between 2015-17 due to working in the bookies and having a psycho ex girlfriend
First thing I did when leaving her was get my season ticket back & leave the bookies...a wise move from all angles!

89-03 when I turned 17 I started playing on Saturdays in the Lancs amateur league. Not a total separation though, as I still managed to get to about 10 games a season.

Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
Great topic JD, fair play.
I had a season ticket with my dad in the CFS (now away part) from 1991-1999.
When I was 17 (1999) I worked in hospitality and also played mens football, and stupidly I drifted away from Burnley a little.
I went home games when I could but not too many away days. I started shift work in 2003, but still managed to get to a hell of a lot of games.
Finally got back as a season ticket holder in 2008 in the Longside before moving to the CFS with my mates around 2015. Had season tickets ever since and try to get at least 10 away games per season. At least 1 in each region.
I have kids now and it's so expensive, but still Claret and Blue home and away and proud.

3rd season back having a season ticket now. Tend to average between 8 and 10 games a season.
Obviously stepped away for a few years after moving over here.

Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
I've only missed being a season ticket holder a couple of years since 1976. Saw over 40 games during the 1991 Mullen campaign which was an incredible experience.
This year I have made a very difficult decision. I'm not renewing my ticket.
This has something to do with my personal, financial and health issues. However, the overriding matter boils down to the financing of our club, the huge gap between those promoted into the PL and the established clubs but the final straw was the complete lack of co-operation from our ticket office when I tried to renew my ticket.
All I tried to do was transfer my direct debit payment to come from a different account. Emails were not responded to, phone calls resulted in a response of "Sorry, that's not possible".
Someone advised that if I turned up at the ticket office that it would get sorted. Why should I have to do that ?
Complete bag of crap. That's why I'm giving it a miss.

Not possible to change your payment to a different bank account? That does seem strange?
Did they give you a reason why?

Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
I had a season ticket from 6 years old until 18 when I left for Uni, then again from around 23 to 29. However about that time I moved to Preston and the journey combined with the quality of the football back then made it start to become a bit of a chore.
I have a 2 year old now and another child on the way so literally don't have the time even if I wanted to do it. I still watch every game on the Firestick and will probably get back into the habit of going on once my eldest is ready, but to be honest I can't say I've missed it at all as bad as that sounds. Especially haven't missed the freezing Tuesday night games in January

Re: Have you ever temporarily stepped away from going to watch the Clarets?
Snap! One of my favourite times to be a Claret. As I said earlier, I'd missed 88 and 89 seasons in total so that season has special significance to me.Dressinggown wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 3:11 amSaw over 40 games during the 1991 Mullen campaign which was an incredible experience.
Saw every game of the 87 season, which seriously didn't help the state of mind I was in..

My dad temporarily stopped under Cotterill and then returned once he'd been sacked.
I missed a few at the back end of 23/24 as my daughter was born at the start of Feb 2024 so prioritised her over some of the away games.
