Villa listening to offers for Buendia -a figure of £20m was quoted. Now that seems relatively good value for money

100%. So unless they have a basket case season ( Leeds certainly can have one) I’m not worried about them. I think we should be targeting palace, Brentford, wolves, Sunderland and p possibly West HamRobbie_painter wrote: ↑Wed Jun 18, 2025 9:45 pmI know a lot on here won’t like hearing it but Leeds have the potential to be a top half club in a couple of seasons, bit like Villa and Forest.

If Leeds keep Farke they’ll be right in the mix with us.

I’m not so sure. His record at Norwich suggest you may be right. But that’s Norwich all over.
Palace could easily have an off season. Especially with Europe and key players leaving.

Farke was allowed to spend £4m at Norwich. Yes FOUR MILLION

80k a week
Re: Summer transfer window
A bit of a boredom buster here.
At this stage of the close season after VK got us promoted, how many players had come in and how many had left. We need names, clubs and fees involved. We can use 19th June as a date.

None.
We knew Beyer and Obafemi were signing on after their loans and that Barnes and Lowton were leaving.
First signing was Dara O'Shea on 23rd June.

Re: Summer transfer window
Bid in for Hartman, according to Feyenoord local press:
‘Burnley has officially reported to Feyenoord with a million-dollar bid on Quilindschy Hartman. The English club is therefore seriously working on the arrival of the 23-year-old left-back, who is still under contract in De Kuip until mid-2026.
The interest from Burnley is not new: even in the summer of 2023, the club, which will return to action in the Premier League next season, was already charmed by the left foot. Feyenoord then stopped the boat, but the situation has since changed. Hartman returned to the training field this spring after a long-term recovery from a serious knee injury he suffered at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Although he is now fit again, a contract extension with Feyenoord does not seem to be in it. The Rotterdammers are therefore aiming for a summer transfer to still keep a transfer fee to the defender who went through almost the entire youth training. In the coming period, the future of Hartman will be determined, who in the past has already become an international under national coach Ronald Koeman. In the Feyenoord shirt, Hartman has played 83 official games in the first team so far and scored twice.
Feyenoord wants to get one new left-back with the loss of mercenary Hugo Bueno and the imminent departure of Quilindschy Hartman. The back-up option behind Gijs Smal and the new left-back should be Yarek Gąsiorowski. However, Valencia's Spanish left-footed will have to succeed Dávid Hancko, who is expected to soon finish his transfer to Al Nassr.‘

Re: Summer transfer window
Not fully sold on this Hartman lad. Is he a big upgrade on Humphreys and Pires? I preferred the Targett links.
Interesting is that it suggests :
1. Our recruitment is based on long term targets, irrespective of managers. Overall, I think that is a good thing. I think it downplays the theory that Kompany was the man making all the decisions last time out though.
2. He’s young again. Maybe suggesting that we’re not changing our strategy from the last promotion, which is slightly more concerning.

I think that Humphreys might slot into the LCB if Esteve leaves. Pires was ok but I think he would be exposed defensively in the PL.

Re: Summer transfer window
You are probably right -he may well not suit our recruitment policy , but still good value for a club wanting a powerful attack minded midfielder. It brings back memories of the impact Ross Barkley had on Luton in the PL. Buendia would definitely be a stand out player for us, and might be the ideal replacement for Brownhill if he goes., and Buendia is 3 years younger than Barkley. The next couple of months will show what our future recruitment policy actually is

Re: Summer transfer window
True. It was more a point that would be true if it becomes a trend for the window.
So far the early strongest links, where we’re not lumped in with Leeds and Sunderland, have been Weiß and Hartman who fit that profile. That might just be because the more established pro’s will be evaluating options much longer though.

I don't think Parker is daft enough, and has already shown, he won't just be buying youngsters.

I very very much doubt we will only be going for youth players. Nothing to be concerned about.
Re: Summer transfer window
I think you have a point to be honest. I don't want us to spend money on potential over first team readiness which I do think we could have been accused of last year (as well as some other things).NewClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 3:22 pmTrue. One of the best signings we ever made for decent money in the PL was the Jack Cork one imo, established PL player, decent age etc. I know it's hard to pick them up but I hope we get the balance better this time around.

Re: Summer transfer window
It’s early days yet and I might be worrying over nothing (I find it impossible to believe that we’re daft enough not to have learned from our previous errors), but I suppose my post was more brought about because of Hartman vs previous links to Targett. I can’t begin to imagine that we’re going to sign two left backs with Pires and Humphreys already in the squad so it feels like we’ve gone for youth again in that position. And defence is the one area I’d most prioritise experience!!boyyanno wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 3:50 pmI think you have a point to be honest. Jack Cork was one of our best signings ever full stop! I still think we’d have stayed up in 21/22 had we played him more and Browny less. And what a guy too. Absolutely love him.

Re: Summer transfer window
Hartmann is 23 but is pretty experienced for his age I’d have said. Hes got a good profile excepting for the injury he’s come back from, seems a worthwhile risk to me.
We do need to see a mix of ages for sure but a few of the links have signalled that will be the case. I reckon the interest in Keane for example is legit.

He will obviously be assessed by the medical team, but he's still young and was such a talent a couple of years ago.

Re: Summer transfer window
For me we already have the "potential" players by that I mean the ones that really starred for us this past season-Anthony, Hannibal, Humphreys, Esteve, Edwards, Trafford, to some extent Pires , but I think he will be stand by in terms of injuries. What we now need are a handful of experienced players with PL experience. Yes your Jack Corks/Matt Lowton/ Stephen Ward/Chris Wood-type players who will embrace the club and provide support and play alongside the above. And of course watching out for young talent good enough to be pressing for a start. Its why I mentioned Buendia above as a potential option, as its in midfield we could be over run. Interestingly McKenna at Ipswich was asked what his greatest learning was from managing Ipswich in the PL and he stated one word-PHYSICALITYboyyanno wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 3:50 pmI think you have a point to be honest. I feel we are in safe hands once potential signings spend time with Scotty. We have been lucky in the past with managers who could "sell the club" to player targets. I include Cotterill, Howe, Kompany , Dyche, and now Scott Parker and possibly several more. It can still be a "people " industry.

Re: Summer transfer window
Hartmann seems a perfect fit for us if he can stay healthy.
He epitomises the club. Feisty, young. aggressive, a trier, lots of good attributes rather than being great at one thing. Pretty quick. Very good crosser. 6 ft so useful at set pieces. Just the profile I can imagine us being after.
Feels like this could be the place to rekindle his career. If we can sign some full internationals for decent nations that has to be a good thing.

Re: Summer transfer window
The injury obviously means there's risk attached, but I don't mind it tbh. Without the injury, we have no chance of signing him, and by now he's at a top 6 club in a top league.
You wouldn't want all your signings to have his injury profile, but finding ways to get quality in without breaking the bank means making compromises somewhere. A previous injury, recent bad form or behaviour, very young or very old etc. Every now and then a punt is worth the risk.
