VAR decisions bring a change of manager

Post by ClaretTony » Thu Jun 19, 2025 9:31 am

I've seen some bad VAR decisions but today Southampton owner Dragan Solak has said that it was a series of VAR decisions that cost Russell Martin his job.

"I really believe he was absolutely, fundamentally behind his idea of football and that is not easy in an environment like the Premier League that is so competitive," Solak said.

"But to give him credit we were quite unlucky, I don't even know how to characterise some of the VAR decisions that we had - but in my opinion VAR took eight points off Russell's team.

"If he had those eight points more in December I think he would probably manage the team through the whole season.

"I'm not saying we would stay in the league but we would have [had] a much more competitive run and Russell would definitely still be leading the team."

What an odd thing to say. If it was VAR’s fault they had so few points then why sack him?

Aye - it was nothing to do with him trying to make 42 passes in his own box against some of the best strikers in the world.

Martin's last match as MK manager before moving to Swansea was a League Cup tie at Bournemouth. They were beaten 5-0 with all five goals given away trying to play it out from the back.

He made Kompany look like Tony Pullis !

Cannot believe that Rangers have taken him on.

Probably more to do with his Championship record, like Bayern did with your good self!

Maybe Russell Martin could sue for unfair dismissal citing those comments

His championship record is not even that good. I was surprised he got the Southampton job in the first place.
Going to be a pretty impossible job at Rangers too as Celtic just earned a big lump of cash from last seasons Champions League which dwarfs the TV money up there that Rangers and Celtic both receive.

As for Kompany I still find that was an unusual appointment but guess they won the league back and had a half decent run in champions league so they might feel it was justified. But think Bayern will expect more from him next season
