Leicester to sack Van Nistelrooy in July
Leicester plan to confirm the sacking of Ruud van Nistelrooy at the start of next month, with Sean Dyche the favourite to replace him, reports The Sun.
Van Nistelrooy took over at the King Power Stadium in December, but picked up just 15 points from 25 games as the Foxes were relegated on their first season back in the top flight.

Is that Nixon? It’s nothing new, Dyche has been getting strong links with Leicester for a good few weeks now.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 9:11 amFrom SSN this am

It's what he needs, a job where he's not just a firefighter having to play cautiously all the time. Big pressure though, their fans will have high expectations going off the 100+ point seasons of recent times. If he gets the job and fails then it may well be the end of his career as a manager.

Re: Dyche to Leicester ?
I’m surprised Dyche would take a step down in to the Championship really, I thought he’d see himself as a Premier League manager now, but Leicester are obviously a big club who he’ll most likely get up and very local.
Find it really strange they’re leaving it until July to announce though. I thought they’d want any replacement in much sooner than 5-6 weeks before the season starts.

Re: Dyche to Leicester ?
If they have the backing (and don’t have a points deduction). This would be a perfect move. Albeit a strange one as I don’t see Leicester fans instantly taking to Dyche.
And having been used to seeing players like Mahrez and the likes at Leicester, it may not be a long term one for either.
But if he can get them up. Then keep them up. And then have a good season thereafter. His stock will be high again.
It’s a big risk this one though. But one that could work for both.

At the moment he has the very valid “I had no money” excuse at Burnley and Everton. If he goes there and it’s all a bit stale I think it will damage his reputation. I’d have waited for a Premier League gig myself. I could see Brentford or someone needing a manager with solid Premier League experience soon enough.
Re: Dyche to Leicester ?
If he waits, then he just gets another firefighting job. It's the circle that Pulis, Allardyce etc fell into and it's made them seemingly unemployable.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 10:25 amDefinitely agree it’s a big risk.

Leicester will likely take action in July owing to compensation payable to Nistelroy meaning this shows up in a new financial year for PSR rules

Nobody better suited to the Championship - his record speaks for itself with us. Tougher gig with a likely points deduction and player sales but I’d still fancy Leicester with Dyche, I must say.

I’m fairly sure whoever ends up at Leicester will have plenty of fires to put out…. I don’t think they’re in a great place.Goliath wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 10:12 amIt's what he needs, a job where he's not just a firefighter having to play cautiously all the time. Re: Dyche to Leicester ?
Can confirm he is now based in Nottingham, my brother plays tennis against his wife (not tonsil).
Re: Dyche to Leicester ?
It's not too dissimilar a job to what Parker walked into last season. If you deal with the initial fires then you can end up in a good place. It'll be all about recruitment.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 1:27 pmI’m fairly sure whoever ends up at Leicester will have plenty of fires to put out…. I don’t think they’re in a great place.

Per Goliath’s post, probably only one in distress though (maybe even us!!) so maybe equally risky as Leicester right now for different reasons. At least he’ll be close to home though.

Re: Dyche to Leicester ?
Leicester is ideal for him. They need stability and a rebuild with a few high earners turfing out , who are not getting into the team squad. He will make them hard to beat. Leicester have had so much drama in the past 3-4 years their fans would welcome him

I'n happy to place a friendly bet that no Premier League side appoints him this season. You mentioned us - would be quite bizarre for Pace to bring him back after sacking him.

Re: Dyche to Leicester ?
Highly unusual yes, but I think Pace would do anything if he thought it’d keep us up. And if he felt he’d had to sack Parker because he thought we were going down otherwise, I dare say he’d look at Dyche as capable of getting us back up too.ollieclarets8 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 5:07 pmI'n happy to place a friendly bet that no Premier League side appoints him this season. He'd most likely do a good job there and get them promoted, because that's what he's good at
We all know it, only an idiot would think otherwise
Leicester fans would get over themselves if he started a promotion charge straight from the off

Leicester fans will already decide what style of football they want to play, how Dyche doesn't fit that narrative coupled with the fact they couldn't stand him when we had regular battles with them. Not to mention his forest connections.
Football fans (especially these days) are weird!

Re: Dyche to Leicester ?
There's a good chance it could be much worse. King Power are having some real financial difficulties at the moment and Leicester have been relying heavily on their subsidising the club for a while. Plus a good chance of a point deduction as well.

Re: Dyche to Leicester ?
I met Dyche that week in the lead up to that sacking. I don’t think any of us expected what happened.UpTheClaretsFCBK wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 2:40 amThink Dyche is being professional about it. I'm sure I heard him say he thought the timing was bizarre and also he believes he would've kept us up. I agree, I think he would have.
But two things I remember from that week.
Norwich was as bad as it gets. We weren’t hammered. But we went down without a fight at all. Sure we had the cornet miss. But a poor Norwich dominated us.
Second thing. Having met Dyche. he was extremely and uncharacteristically rude. Blunt. Unfriendly. And almost distant. Everything you didn’t expect him to be. I know he’d gone a bit that way generally after so long here. But he seemed off and like something wasn’t right. Maybe he knew what was coming. Maybe the players werent turning up for him. Im not sure but he wasn’t the person I expected to meet.
I don’t think we were staying up at all at that point. We had just lost to Norwich - a side we had a good record against and never lost league games to under Dyche. They were rock bottom. We looked well done at that point and I doubt he’d have got the bounce of results we got under Jackson briefly (who knows).
Our only outlet was Cornet and don’t think Dyche fancied him ( or knew of his injury issues that were to come ). Weghorst didn’t play like a Dyche player. And then we were stuck with the uninvested rest of the squad.
