Is Flemming Good Enough?
Is he good enough to lead our front line in the Prem?
He has desire, plus good ability and physicality. I think he is still learning with the help of Bashley - could even turn into our new Barnes.
I think he deserves a chance…

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
Good enough? On form in the back end of the season, just about. Deserves a chance? Absolutely.
Can we afford to give him the chance and he not be good enough? No! Bit of a problem for me.
I'm more worried about Lyle personally. Haven't seen enough end product from him, although we know he's had fitness issues both physically and mentally.
I would be happy with one more added with the 3 of them vying for 1/2 striker positions (game dependant) - Barnesy on the training ground helping all three of course.

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
Looks a great "club" player, and many of the goals he got for us would have graced the Premier League. He did a brilliant job with Foster out for so long with various injuries and played admirably as the No 9 despite a lack of experience in that role. He is a No 10, and whilst he does not have the natural skills of Amdouini , give me Flemming every time for what is very likely to be a dog fight in the PL. In answer YES he is good enough

Yeah, Lyle seems more suited to Prem life in a way. Fast and physical. Just mentality…

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
He is good enough.
Support each and everyone of our players, even after bad games, or just OK games, or good games with a costly mistake.
Don't hang them out to dry. They are all trying their best to get a result. As fans we can lift their confidence and therefore their performance levels. Don't we all prefer the atmosphere when we applaud and cheer even when a promising move ends with a failed attempt or a mistake, or a save?
If they fail, encourage them to try again and again. Let them know that we are with them. Imagine you are a teammate on the pitch. How would you react then.
They are all good enough to me, knowing that our manager will rotate the squad when he needs to. They will all make mistakes, that's football.
If we applaud, cheer, chant and sing, we will come off the match in a better frame of mind, than if we choose to be negative at the first opportunity, regardless of the result. Then a clean sheet or a win will be a massive bonus. Everyone of us know that we are going to lose games, so what is the point of going mental at our own players. Applaud them on, applaud them off. We are all in this together.

Yeah well said. I also think the support players around him are important. To share the goal threat

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
If we start the season with a front three of Edwards, Flemming and Anthony, we will struggle to score goals against more athletic and professional PL defenders. Is Flemming good enough as a PL lone striker?... No, but he could play as a number 10 off a good striker.
I said on here last season that the only players we had who were ready for the PL were Esteve and possibly Trafford and Flemming.

I think (hope) that Flemming might be one of those types of players better suited to the Premier League than the Championship.
Although he did end the season very strongly.

He's not a 9.
But isn't the modern way to play without one.

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
I was looking at the profile of DR Congo international Wissa who has proved very successful at Brentford from a relatively unknown beginning in France. He played in the first and second divisons in France up to the age of 24. Joined Brentford the first season they were promoted on a 4 year contract reported to be 8.5 million.Passing Clouds wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 10:14 amYeah, Lyle seems more suited to Prem life in a way. His style of play is described as ' fitting many positions' including winger, number 10 and forward. He has pace and power and can take on players. Thrust into a striking position at Brentford with Toney's ban and a long term injury to Toney' s replacement ( from Wiki).
Someone like that please Burnley.

Lyle is 24 I think. Would love to see him succeed. Seems a decent lad…

I doubt we could afford a recognised "9" good enough to battle it out with some of the best CBs in world football.

I think we'd all like to see him succeed PC but time is running out. If only he didn't get injured so easily. I think he started off the last PL season not too bad which makes his brittleness frustrating.

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
Both Flemming and Foster deserve the chance at least, it will be more of a squad game this year, so both will get their chances. We need another physical striker and Salech at Cardiff was as physical as I have seen. Probably wouldn't cost the earth and then a tall physical midfielder maybe.

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
Flemming deserves a chance, but my initial thinking is he's not good enough for the PL. Having said that, it could all come down to the service he's given and the role he's asked to play.
Foster has had a good few opportunities and (imo) isn't up to it.

I don't know about deserving chances- we have to be brutal, we need to score goals.spamalittle wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 11:23 amBoth Flemming and Foster deserve the chance at least, it will be more of a squad game this year, so both will get their chances. Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
The problem is do they down the Forest route and spend a fortune or go down more frugal route of going with what we have got and adding players on a budget. The Forest route is very risky for club the size of Burnley.

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
How does anyone ever find out if a player who has only played at Championship level is good enough for the Premier League if you don't give him a chance to play Premier League games? Based on his previous Premier League outings you could ask whether Trafford is good enough to play in the PL - of course he is, but for many reasons he didn't have a decent time at that level under Kompany.
I think Flemming showed that he was 'getting it' about how to be the sole attacker as we got towards the end of the season. Doesn't do enough pressuring defenders or making forlorn runs into the channels but seems to know how to hit the back of the net and get on the end of those delightful balls cut back from the byline.

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
Next season is about how the team performs rather than individuals.
Everyone in the squad is good enough as part of a team, at Premier League level, possibly none are particularly standout as individuals.

The PL is littered with players who have been very successful after coming from the Championship in recent seasons.bfcmik wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 2:55 pmHow does anyone ever find out if a player who has only played at Championship level is good enough for the Premier League if you don't give him a chance to play Premier League games? Based on that Flemming could adapt very well.
I might if I've time do an analysis of whether age relates to success or not. For my own purposes of course

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
I think he will do well enough and, fingers crossed, he will actually make it big time. My point was much more about those writing off players as 'good enough for the Championship but not good enough for the PL!'Elizabeth wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 3:09 pmThe PL is littered with players who have been very successful after coming from the Championship in recent seasons.

Maybe you have Sergeant in mind then. If so look no further than the one season he had in the PL 2-3 seasons ago in a very poor Norwich side

Re: Is Flemming Good Enough?
Couldn't edit. I don't mean by that I've written him off if he signs. I think that experience and the extra years since will have helped him develop enough to be a bigger PL threat if given the chance again
