Captain
Should Josh Brownhill leave for pastures new. Who do you think should captain the team.

Re: Captain
I'm not sure how important this is.
There are always on the pitch captains who are not the official captain.

Re: Captain
We’ll need 11 captains on the field every game next season

Re: Captain
Pretty much my point.
Re: Captain
An important role. As things stand, I imagine Cullen. If not, Esteve. Worrall would be the obvious choice based on leadership qualities alone, but doubt he'll play enough.

Got to imagine
Barnes will be club captain with Cullen likely being on the field captain

Re: Captain
I disagree. One captain is what we need. He may have deputies but the role of the captain is probably undervalued and it is vital that we play to his directions and guidance. Who's going to listen to who if there are multiple captains?

Re: Captain
The more 'captains' on the field the better. Yes, there has to be someone wearing the armband so they talk to the referee, but players get much more detailed and timely instruction from the manager and coaches during the game these days, especially during the frequent injury 'timeouts' we have in modern football, rather than relying on an on-field captain to maintain the formation and tactics given in the team talk.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 1:28 pmI disagree. Re: Captain
What is all of this “Should Brownhill leave”?
He has left. He is no longer employed by the club as of today. He has left. One day he may come back (and I doubt it will be anytime soon if he ever does), but as of now he is no longer at the club.

Re: Captain
But at the time of every post prior to yours he was still employed by BFC and was, allegedly, signing a new deal.RickyBobby wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 4:18 pmWhat is all of this “Should Brownhill leave”?

I’d argue it should be someone else even if he DOES stay…

Re: Captain
Suspect Cullen as well but it’s been a while since we had what I would call a traditional skipper- Pender, Shackell, Caldwell, even Heaton but I prefer an outfield player.

Was Brownhill being offered too short a contract for his liking?

Re: Captain
It’s every much an off field role as it is on field, probably even more so. The respect the players had for Caldwell & Heaton made them perfect for the role.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 9:50 pmSuspect Cullen as well but it’s been a while since we had what I would call a traditional skipper- Pender, Shackell, Caldwell, even Heaton but I prefer an outfield player.

Re: Captain
Not if they all did rock, paper, scissors 15 minutes before kick off every time to ascertain who is going to go up for the toss. It could be based on an elaborate knockout basis or possible group games followed by knockout (though they may need to start earlier).
It just needs planning really.
