Seen him 3 times and been excellent each time , but the truth is you never really know what you’re going to get from the cudmungingly old sod.
Saw him at the Apollo manchester in 2008 he did 80 mins of acoustic and piano 8 till 9.20 covered all the hits went of came back on at 9.45 with crazy horse and played a full electric till 11.30. Still one of the best gigs ive ever seen . An odd memory is that during. The acoustic set their was a guy painting pictures on stage

I like Charli xcx but this is all very going through the motions so far. Some heavy lip synching too. Shame Lorde couldn’t stick around for the duet.

A complete sh!tshow. Other than Neil Young who I've zero interest in given his game of hide and seek with regards to his live performance tonight being shown the BBC everything else is off

Re: Glastonbury
I think she’s overcompensating for being from Cambridge.
The slower tracks have sounded better in this set I think. It’s a shame she hasn’t had any guests because it’s difficult for a solo act to headline just on their own.

Re: Glastonbury
Not sure what some folk were expecting from Neil Young. Always been an acquired taste, but I thought he was excellent.
I'm also a Lewis Capaldi fan, who did great in his comeback, but anyone could have picked holes in it.
Live music, especially Festival music, you have to take into account the wind and the acoustics.

Re: Glastonbury
I tuned in early in the set and I thought that Neil Young’s acoustic early bits were poor but he obviously grew into it because by the next time I tuned in he had a very tight band and they stormed into “Like a Hurricane” with such verve. He looked a mess but then did such a poignant version of “Old Man” and came back for rousing encores that I came to the conclusion that this must be far and away the best performance of this festival.

I thought Neil Young’s set was a fine example of sludge rock. I reckon The Searchers would have been more entertaining.

Re: Glastonbury
If I go to watch an artist/band live, I expect that it's "live" and not pre-recorded.
I much prefer a warts and all performance than a staged musical which I have seen from several act this year.
For me, Gary Numan being a big disappointment in this.

Re: Glastonbury
It’s not an excuse - I’m just saying a solo headliner set can be improved with a few guests especially considering a number of her tracks are duets. A good number of headliners have done it.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 9:14 amThat's a feeble excuse. If you're good enough, you don't need guests and gimmicks.
Re: Glastonbury
Looking forward to Rod Stewart, my wife just reminded me of the time we went to see him in Amsterdam, it was organised by the Daily Mirror ( them were the days) and the best bit was we got to meet him, It was 1978/79. Seen him several times live. Also looking forward later tonight to Olivia Rodrigo.

I'm just catching up with a few sets I've missed
Jaylen Ngonda
Ezra Collective (yet again at Glastonbury) are well worth checking out

Re: Glastonbury
Surprised there hasn’t been a mention for the 1975 yet. Matty Healy is a deliberately provocative and arrogant frontman, and will definitely divide taste, but thought their set was actually very good.
Raye has a great voice, but none of the tunes really hit like you want them to. Ends up coming across like a very good Amy Winehouse tribute.

I agree about Healy but without sounding an old fart (I know) I really don’t think they should allow smoking or alcohol on the set.DanH90 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 1:16 pmSurprised there hasn’t been a mention for the 1975 yet. There was brief chat earlier in the thread. He was actually less annoying than usual and it was a really good set. 100% agree about Raye - incredible voice, but she needs some better tracks. She’s recently started working with Mark Ronson, like Amy W did, so hopefully will help.
