I must be getting old.
I just find it awful that some of Olivias' fans look barely out of primary school, yet she's effin' and jeffin' like a truck driver!

Great set but Out of Space deserves more than a minute or whatever that was! That was my only criticism really - thought they moved on a bit too quick from Firestarter and No Good (Start the Dance) too. They undeniably know how to put on a show though and you’re guaranteed a great time.

Just watched a bit of St Vincent on the telly. She's brilliant, in my opinion of course.

Nile Rodgers/Chic were excellent. Best band for me at this year's Glastonbury. Drummer and Bassist top notch and singers nearly as good as Lisa Fischer.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 9:55 pmWas going to watch Nile Rodgers but for the life of me I can’t find it on iPlayer.

Celeste was great on iPlayer. Lucy Dacus was a little underwhelming compared to when ive seen her live but i guess contentedness doesnt breed great indie.....

Does someone else do vocals for the songs that Keith Flint used to lead sing on or do they just do other songs?Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 11:04 pmGreat set but Out of Space deserves more than a minute or whatever that was! Maxim fills in with the vocals. Though they kept Keith’s original vocals in on Firestarter as a tribute.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 2:42 pmDoes someone else do vocals for the songs that Keith Flint used to lead sing on or do they just do other songs?

Re: Glastonbury
They perhaps could do what Faithless do with Maxi Jazz for a couple of songs and have a massive video screen with a live video/vocal performance which is isolated where the band then play along. It works really well for FaithlessSwizzlestick wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 3:15 pmMaxim fills in with the vocals. Though they kept Keith’s original vocals in on Firestarter as a tribute.

I couldn't hear that (Keith in Firestarter) - must have been well down in the mix. The song's so well known they don't need the vocals to be honest, people just fill it in in their head.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 3:15 pmMaxim fills in with the vocals. Re: Glastonbury
Yeah, should clarify, there's only Keith's vocal excerpts when they're showing the big light tribute to him during the track. The only one Maxim doesn't contribute to, probably because they know it's pretty much synonymous with Keith now.dougcollins wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 5:03 pmI couldn't hear that (Keith in Firestarter) - must have been well down in the mix. The thing about Rogers is he’s capable of working with people from all genres and has done it over an incredibly long period.
Can’t really think of anyone else who has successfully written, produced and collaborated with so many people.

Re: Glastonbury
Just got back last night from my first visit and everything they say about Glastonbury is absolutely true. Probably the greatest experience of my life (and I’m 60+). Being there in the crowd for the Prodigy set was beyond belief. So many unbelievable performances from acts big and small. The ‘naughty corner’ with Block 9, Shangri-La etc sets your head spinning. The whole festival is a full on assault of all of your senses. Even the food from the dozens of street food vendors is delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever been as tired and grubby in my life but believe me it’s worth every aching bone. If you’ve never fancied going or think it’s not your cup of tea I implore you, if you have the remotest chance of getting a ticket for 2027 grab it with both hands and look forward to a whole new world.

Incredible career, and as said collaborated with some of the biggest stars in the world, from so many genres and generations.

How do you spot a song that Nile Rodgers has a hand in in some part? 95% of the time he or the artist he's working with sing the song title within the opening lines!

I volunteered there for Oxfam about 13 years ago. Brilliant experience. Did 3 x 8h shifts before the festival had even started properly and got the rest of the weekend free. Got to stay in the Oxfam campsite too which had showers and a small canteen.KernowHouseClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 11:56 amI'm going to try and volunteer for 2027 just to experience whole thing from a different perspective

Re: Glastonbury
I think the thing about Nile Rogers' band is that he has top quality players, which drives the rhythm. To my ears it's not that different to a Frusciante, Flea and Smith or Commerford, Morello or Wilk.
The American garage bands were much more influenced by metal and funk than the Britpop bands and generally are better musicians. I think the Britpop bands were more influenced by Punk and were more style over substance.
I just can't listen to Pulp's one finger bass and keyboard drone. And, of course, you can relate to a song about common people when he and you are young but not so much when he is a millionaire living in Shepherds Bush and you are an old fart.
Same with the Libertines, the squishy faced, chunky butted cheese eating French farmer boy playing the bar chords is not the same as the angelic upstart hanging out with Kat Moss and there isn't much music to listen to. It's all attitude.
That's a possible explanation of why NR/Chic sound so fresh and have got much plaudits from the Glastonbury audience.

Always the people who don’t or wouldn’t go who slag it off isn’t it. Brilliant place, brilliant event, year on year. Props to them for not bowing to pressure and keeping Kneecap on the bill and props to Bob Vylan for taking over the broadcast duties.
