Just a head's up guys if going away next few days. I'm on holiday in Crete and just notified by easyJet text that the bloody French are on an sir traffic control strike on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th July and to expect delays and disruption throughout Europe. Expect knock on effects on Saturday and Sunday.

That's the bloody problem for us Brits, any sort of short/ medium length flight from Britain to Europe usually crosses French ATC.at some point so they really do hold all the cards as it causes multi National disruption..

A few years ago we were supposed to be heading to Lyon (to join a Rhone river cruise) by train (Eurostar to Paris then TGV to Lyon) french Railstrikes hit our arranged travel plans and we finished being flown out to from Heathrow to Geneva and returned Nice to Heathrow.

I think its easier to assume the French ATC are always on strike unless told otherwise.

You gotta admire the French for the shear audacity to stike at almost any given time in any organisation.

I love the story of the French riot police who, during a strike they were residing over, we caught drinking wine and beer on their lunch break. Albeit this looked terrible from a PR standpoint, they argued it in line with labour laws of their contract. The French police federation then threatened to go on strike if the alcohol allowance was removed from their contract Mad bunch of lads

To be fair bud they don’t allow their government to bully them. Unfortunately in this country the ‘workers’ lost all their fight after Thatcher broke the unions. Strikes are a pain in the backside but sometimes they are necessary in order to get some fairness. People said the unions got too powerful and needed reigning in but too often it is forgotten that without them we’d all still be working for 2 bob a month and getting sacked for being 2 minutes late. If employers were all decent and paid good living wages unions would not be necessary but many are not. Unions came into being because employers treated people like disposable commodities. Maybe they did get a bit too powerful but without them we’d have a much poorer society.

Michael O’Leary , Ryanair, having a go at the EU for not stopping this nonsense every year. His valid argument is that the EU citizens are suffering for a French internal strike. He wants flyovers to be allowed fly.
Of course he's also thinking of his enormous annual bonus.

Despite the warnings we arrived about 40 minutes late. So, on the whole not too problematic.
