Shelvey was an awful signing. Just own it. He wasn't just on a pay as you play deal. He was on a contract up to the 30th June ( hence , this when he was officially released)on a basic salary with added bonuses based on appearances.

Must admit, I don't agree with Mattster on Walker. I think this will be a great signing.
I don’t think it was an awful signing, he played 3 games and was a free transfer, someone like hountonji at 3m or churlinov at 4m class as awful signings. The issue wasn’t whether Shelvey was good or not it was mattster trying to compare it to Walker and bringing anything possible up to suit his weird agenda

He's at the very least on a level with Roberts. More likely a step above.
🙂..we all love Connor and want him to get a fair crack at it but if Walker was 50 next week I'd still back him to leave Connor standing. There really is no comparison.

Bardsley played RB for us at a similar age and did pretty well. And I suspect KW is a step up in ability.
Bardsley was 32 when he signed. After he turned 35 he made a grand sum of 4 league appearances for us (3 starts).

Your still at it, bardsley was playing for Stoke at 32, Walker was winning the treble.

Quite comical that 13 cap Scotland player Phil Bardsley is being used to compare a 96 cap current England international.

Mattster, this is going to be a long season if you are griping now before a ball being kicked. We get it, you a bit sore because your "patterns of play" theory didn't pan out as you thought last season.

We are going to get our noses bloodied a few times this season and we don't really need you chirping in with "I told you so" every time that happens. No one has an axe to grind with you, but lets just give it a clean slate and get behind the lads eh?

Walker will arguably be the best player to have played for us for decades. Only a season ago he would still have potentially been considered one of the best right backs in the world. For a chunk of his career he has probably been THE best right back in the world. At 35 he still has enough for us and the fact he's coming here shows he still has some fight left in him. This is an amazing bit of business for us.

THe ones where it could be the time to get them off our books-Obefemi, Delcroix, Sambo, Green, Hyladki, Green, Benson, Ekdal, Hountondgi

Out on loan-Beyer, Pires, Sonne, Agyei, Tresor, McDermott, Bauress

Thats 16 names from our now squad of 42, so there are obviously more to go, with no doubt a few more incomings

It looks as if you have included Brownhill in the 42; I make it 41 and Koleosho, Agyei, McDermott, Bauress, Casper, Weiss, and Banel are all under 21 Jan 1st 2025. This means we have a squad at present of 34 from whom we have to name 25. You have also tried to move Green on twice.
Getting Green, Hladky (assume Trafford leaves) off the list leaves us with Weiss and Casper as keepers.
My guess is we will sell Massengo and Trafford and try to sell/loan Sonne, Sambo, Delcroix, Obafemi, Hountondgi, Beyer, Benson. Not that it helps the numbers but certainly helps the cashflow I think we may sell Koleosho if we get a decent offer and it looks as if we may want to sell Amdouni.
At present if those players are loaned or leave we are down to a squad size of 24

Why are we now piling in on Connor?

Why can't we show support for Walker and Roberts?

Just don't get it sometimes, even though it happens all the time.

I have it that Weiss koleosho banel Tchaouna wouldn’t need to be registered in the 25 man squad

No you tried to compare the amount of games bardsley played aged 35 as a reason why we shouldn’t be signing Walker aged 35. The massive difference is where the two players careers were at, at the point of signing for us. Completely different

He was 21 this Jan Ist- born in 2003 according to Tony's list of the squad so he will have to be in the 25

I’m liking what we are doing so far with a mix of youth and experience. Time will tell of course and we definitely need a few more of quality (potentially a centre half, a quality CM and a striker. as a minim) but credit where it’s due, we look to be building well and pretty early as too (for a change), which can only help.

Incredible business:

RB - Kyle |Walker - £5m
RCB - Axel Tuanzebe - Free
LB - Quilindschy Hartman - £7.7m

Quality, pace, experience and power added to our already strong defensive squad.

All brought in for a similar amount Ipswich bought O'Shea off us for.

Now for midfield and attack !!

Kyle Walker is an amazing signing. The one thing we certainly need in the Premier league is pace in defence and with Estéve (assuming we can keep him) and Walker we have that.

I think it’s class and a big statement in saying we are here to not be an easy 6 points over the course of the season and we’re going to give survival a great chance. Doing exactly what we should have done last time we were in this situation - Buy the loan players, get some youth in but also get some premier league experience!

Can you answer the question that is Hugil still ready to play championship football?

You have brought the youth players up to try and validate you comparing signing Shelvey as us now signing Walker. In no way are they similar

Newcastle currently thrashing out a deal with Burnley for Trafford.
According to the BBC “Gossip” page over the past month that has been an ongoing theme claiming that terms have already agreed with Trafford etc etc
I’ll be glad when it’s finally done to be honest.

If they don't pay £40m I hope we keep hold of him.

Its worth more to us to stay in the Premier League.

That being said if he has a brilliant season for us in the Prem he could be worth more than £40m even with a year left on his contract as teams (including City wiuth their buy clause) will be queuing up.

If I’m Josh Brownhill, I look at the signing of Walker and think I want to stick about.
Or he’s thinking, if you can pay for Walker, you can pay for me.

I think Burnley will have made their final offer to Brownhill weeks ago.

Isn't the Walker deal depending on how many games he plays and if we stay up? Might cost us nowt :) . He might pay for himself with merchandise sales.
